The inguinal canal is traversed by the spermatic cord in men and the round ligament of uterus in women. The round ligament is attached to the uterine cornu near the origin of fallopian tube at one end and to the ipsilateral labia majora at the other. Descent of the testes is a complex event mediated by hormonal and mechanical factors. At present we hypothesize that testicular descent occurs as the result of the secretion of descendin from a normal testicle. Descendin secretion results in selective growth of the gubernacular cells. INTRODUCTION: Strangulated Inguinal hernia is one of the most common surgical emergencies dealt with by surgeons worldwide. Usually the narrow internal inguinal ring or the external inguinal ring is the site of constriction of the viscus, which forms the content of the hernia resulting in strangulation. Transverse testicular ectopia is a rare anomaly characterized by testicular descent into the scrotum through the same inguinal canal. Here, we report the case of a 15-year-old boy diagnosed with transverse testicular ectopia wherein both testes descended through separate inguinal canals. He underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy which helped to identify both spermatic cords entering both inguinal canals separately. During scrotal exploration, both testes were found in the same side. Transseptal orchidopexy was performed. The short-term follow-up is uneventful.

A 7-year-old girl presented complaining of right groin swelling for 1 week and underwent routine examination at the emergency department. An ultrasonography reported a well-defined cystic lesion with no internal vascularity, connected to the inguinal canal, and located lateral to the epigastric vessels. Hydrocele of the canal of Nuck is a very rare condition in females. The processus vaginalis within the inguinal canal forms "the canal of Nuck" in females, homologous to the processus vaginalis in males. Failure of obliteration of the processus vaginalis results in either a direct or an indirect inguinal hernia or if a sac of serous fluid is retained, it forms a hydrocele. Very little has been reported on this condition in the literature. We present a case of hydrocele of canal of Nuck in an 8-year-old female.

Here we present a sixty-two year old man with bilateral swellings palpated in inguinal areas on physical examination. Ultrasonography and abdominal multi-detector computed tomography revealed a bladder herniation through the right inguinal canal and a sigmoid colon herniation through the left inguinal canal. We report a case of traumatic inguinal hernia following blunt abdominal trauma after a road traffic accident and describe the circumstances and technique of repair. This paper begins with a review of the embryology of the inguinal region. The authors then point out the special morphological and topographical features of the inguinal canal in male children. These observations were based on the study of 50 inguinal canals from male children. From the anatomical observations described in this study guidelines are proposed for the surgical approach and dissection of the spermatic cord used in the treatment of congenital hernias or abnormal descent of the testis.
