[Serial clinical examinations as the main approach to dental caries prevention in children].

Leading scientific and organizational prerequisites for the feasibility of clinical examination of the entire child population of the Russian Federation to the dentist is, above all, the high prevalence and intensity of dental diseases in children of all ages. As a result of many years of research and follow-up of children of preschool and school age we have proved the need to distinguish a group of children with zero activity of dental caries. The referring criteria are determined according to the results of comprehensive clinical and laboratory examination in order to determine the degree of

Mind the Gap: Preliminary Insights Into Rural Australians' Experiences of Oral Health Care.

OBJECTIVE: Australians living in rural areas have a higher prevalence of dental caries and higher potentially preventable hospital admissions for oral health conditions compared to metropolitan-dwelling Australians. Despite high burdens of dental disease and a lack of systems supporting oral health, including water fluoridation and access to dental services, rural Australians have been given limited opportunities to participate in oral health research, resulting in gaps in our understanding. The objective of this study was to explore rural health consumer experiences of using and accessing ora

Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis Have Increased Dental Comorbidities: A Nationwide Population-based Cohort Study in Korea.

Psoriatic arthritis is increasingly recognized as a systemic inflammatory disease with multiple comorbidities, yet the full spectrum of dental complications associated with psoriatic arthritis has not been clearly defined. This nationwide population based cohort study evaluated whether patients with psoriatic arthritis are at elevated risk of diverse dental diseases. Using a nationwide population-based health insurance database, we identified 40,920 newly diagnosed psoriatic arthritis cases and 204,468 age- and sex-matched controls. Dental outcomes included dental caries, pulp and periapical d

Estimation of the costs of smoking-related oral disease: a representative South Korean study.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to estimate the socioeconomic and psychological costs associated with smoking-related oral disease (SROD) with the aim of generating objective data that could be used in smoking cessation counselling by dental care providers and could also serve as data with which to set standards and criteria for use in dental health insurance. METHODS: Patients were sourced from the 11 dental hospitals associated with dental schools in South Korea. A total of 1,288 of 10,080 patients with SROD were selected to participate in the study for a period of 2 years fro

Impact of child and parental characteristics on the utilization and outcomes of dental healthcare.

OBJECTIVES: Medical-dental integration promotes early intervention in oral diseases, reduces barriers to care, and optimizes dental home establishment for children. This study aims to explore how child-level [gender, age, number of preventative dental visits (PDVs), and comorbidities] and parent-level [employment, family size, comorbidities, and number of PDVs] characteristics affect dental service claims. METHODS: Merative administrative claims data were analyzed for children aged 0-6 years who had a well-child visit, at least one dental visit between 2019 and 2021, and were covered under pr

Willingness to pay for dentin regeneration in a sample of dentate adults.

OBJECTIVES: Measurement of individuals' valuation of dental treatments is important in the evaluation of new technologies. In this paper the value of dentin regeneration, a new treatment for teeth with reversible pulpitis, is measured based on what individuals say they would be willing to pay to receive the treatment. METHODS: A total of 611 randomly selected dentate adults answered willingness to pay (WTP) and dental insurance questions. Detailed descriptions of the process and expected outcomes for dentin regeneration were presented to subjects as part of a larger study measuring preference

Racial/ethnic disparities in chronic diseases of youths and access to health care in the United States.

Racial/ethnic minorities are 1.5 to 2.0 times more likely than whites to have most of the major chronic diseases. Chronic diseases are also more common in the poor than the nonpoor and this association is frequently mediated by race/ethnicity. Specifically, children are disproportionately affected by racial/ethnic health disparities. Between 1960 and 2005 the percentage of children with a chronic disease in the United States almost quadrupled with racial/ethnic minority youth having higher likelihood for these diseases. The most common major chronic diseases of youth in the United States are a

Due to movement restrictions, limited living allowances, dental treatment costs, and health insurance fees, overseas students might be more concerned about their oral health. The objective of the present study was to determine the association of knowledge and attitude toward oral healthcare behavior of overseas university students staying in Thailand between January 2020 to July 2022 and explore the experiences of their oral health problems. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using an on

Risk Indicators of Urgent and Extensive Dental Treatment Needs in U.S. Air Force Recruits.

INTRODUCTION: Dental Readiness Classifications (DRCs) enable the Military Health System to prioritize dental care in garrison, minimizing dental emergencies and mission degradation during deployments. Over half (52.4%) of 2008 military recruits presented with high-priority urgent needs classified as DRC3 upon initial dental examination and 18.1% required extensive treatment, needing 7 or more restorations, in order to achieve operational dental readiness. The purpose of this study is to identify risk indicators for urgent and extensive dental treatment needs in current U.S. Air Force (USAF) re

OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to describe the dental visiting patterns and ascertain their associations with clinically assessed dental caries and periodontal disease levels of dentate Australian adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A three-stage stratified probability sampling design was used to randomly select a cross-section of Australians aged 15+ years. Self-reported oral health and related information was obtained using questionnaire-based interviews. Dental visiting patterns studied were usual frequency of dental visits, usual reason for dental visit, and use of a regular dentist. Ora

Detecting high-risk neighborhoods and socioeconomic determinants for common oral diseases in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Ideally, health services and interventions to improve dental health should be tailored to local target populations. But this is not the standard. Little is known about risk clusters in dental health care and their evaluation based on small-scale, spatial data, particularly among under-represented groups in health surveys. Our study aims to investigate the incidence rates of major oral diseases among privately insured and self-paying individuals in Germany, explore the spatial clustering of these diseases, and evaluate the influence of social determinants on oral disease risk cluste

Dental disease before radiotherapy in patients with head and neck cancer: Clinical Registry of Dental Outcomes in Head and Neck Cancer Patients.

BACKGROUND: No evidence-based guidelines exist for preventive dental care before radiation therapy (RT) in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). An ongoing multicenter, prospective cohort study, Clinical Registry of Dental Outcomes in Head and Neck Cancer Patients (OraRad), is addressing this knowledge gap. The authors evaluated the level of dental disease before RT in the OraRad cohort, factors associated with dental disease, and dental treatment recommendations made before RT. METHODS: As part of OraRad, the authors assessed caries, periodontal disease, dental recommendations, and denta
