Multi-faceted case management: reducing compensation costs of musculoskeletal work injuries in Australia.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine whether a multi-faceted model of management of work related musculoskeletal disorders reduced compensation claim costs and days of compensation for injured workers. METHODS: An intervention including early reporting, employee centred case management and removal of barriers to return to work was instituted in 16 selected companies with a combined remuneration over $337 million. Outcomes were evaluated by an administrative dataset from the Victorian WorkCover Authority database. A 'quasi experimental' pre-post design was employed with 492 matched compan

To what extent are psychiatrists aware of the comorbid somatic illnesses of their patients with serious mental illnesses? - a cross-sectional secondary data analysis.

BACKGROUND: Somatic comorbidities are a serious problem in patients with severe mental illnesses. These comorbidities often remain undiagnosed for a long time. In Germany, physicians are not allowed to access patients' health insurance data and do not have routine access to documentation from other providers of health care. Against this background, the objective of this article was to investigate psychiatrists' knowledge of relevant somatic comorbidities in their patients with severe mental illnesses. METHODS: Cross-sectional secondary data analysis was performed using primary data from a pro

Linkage of medical administrative claims and long-term care claims in DeSC database.

The DeSC database, launched in 2020 by DeSC Healthcare Co., Ltd. is a commercially available Japanese administrative medical claims and health checkup database. Recently, long-term care insurance (LTCI) claims data-covering care-need levels, monthly care benefits, service utilization, and cost information-have been integrated into the database. We showed that the distributions of the seven care-need levels were highly similar between the DeSC database and the official report by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. This similarity supports the representativeness and reliability of the De

Estimating the contributions of speeding and impaired driving to insurance claim cost.

INTRODUCTION: Logistic regression modelling of crash counts likely associated with speeding and impaired driving was earlier found [Zheng, Y., Cooper, P. J., & Dean, C. B. (2007). Modeling the contribution of speeding and impaired driving to insurance claim counts and costs when contributing factors are unknown. Journal of Safety Research, 38(1)] to successfully predict known outcomes in a series of simulations, but the same types of models did not accurately predict average crash costs. The aim of the study reported here was to develop a means to adjust classification model results that would

Malpractice Insurance in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology: Understanding Liability Risk and Coverage Considerations.

Malpractice risk in radiology reflects the dual nature of the specialty: diagnostic radiologists direct patient care through interpretation, reporting, and communication of radiographic studies while interventional radiologists assume additional responsibility through invasive procedures and peri-procedural management. Diagnostic radiology claims commonly involve missed or delayed diagnoses, emergency imaging, oncologic interpretation errors, communication failures, and follow-up gaps. Interventional radiology claims more often center on procedural complications, informed consent, delayed reco
