Cysticercosis in anterior chamber (AC) is rarer than in other ocular sites. And it is usually associated with plastic iridocyclitis. We report herein a case of a live cyst in the AC. The cyst was removed intact through limbal incision by visco expression technique. Histopathology confirmed cysticercosis cellulosae as the infecting agent. Timely removal of cyst can save the eye from severe plastic iritis.

The spondyloarthropathies are disorders characterised mainly by sacroiliitis (with or without spondylitis), peripheral oligoarthritis, enthesopathy, absence of rheumatoid factor, certain extra-articular features such as iritis, and increased prevalence of HLA-B27. The diagnosis should be considered in patients, especially young people, with low back pain. A history of psoriasis, bowel dysfunction, eye problems and peripheral joint inflammation should point to the diagnosis.

An 8-year-old black boy with sickle cell trait struck his left brow and globe on the edge of a table and had immediate blurring of vision. Six days later visual acuity was light projection, and traumatic iritis with secondary glaucoma and perimacular edema were present. Fluorescein angiography indicated obstructed peripheral and perimacular arterioles and dye leakage from the disk.

This report describes a patient with Crohn's disease of the colon who presented with a rare extraintestinal complication: splenic abscess. Additional features of this case were the association of multiple extraintestinal manifestations of Crohn's disease, including iritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and pericholangitis, and polymicrobial bacteremia. A diagnostic method has been developed to analyze tear specimens from patients with red eyes, using the technique of laser diffraction. After proper tear sample preparation, presence of a diffraction halo produced by the tear specimen indicates presence of an external ocular inflammation and helps rule out such conditions as glaucoma, iritis and episcleritis. Measurement of the size of the halo pattern may also be used to give information as to the concentration of cells in the tear sample.

A statistical study was carried out on 218 patients (107 male and 111 female) with herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) who visited our clinic from April 1985 to March 1992. The incidence of ocular complications (OCs) and the rate of prolonged OCs (over 6 months) were also studied with the factors that were considered to have affected them. Ocular toxoplasmosis manifested itself in following clinical forms: as central serous chorioretinitis, pars planitis, iritis, intrabulbar neuritis and central retinal degeneration. The diagnosis was based on the clinical picture, serological examinations, the course of the disease and the effect of the specific treatment. The authors used piridimide++ compounds, sulfonamides, steroids, folic acid and Tavegyl, Decaris as well as photo-coagulation. The efficacy of all these methods was compared.

Interferon-alpha and interferon-gamma production by idiopathic isolated optic neuritis (ON) patients was studied. The production capacity was compared with that in two control groups: patients with iritis and healthy control subjects. A sensitive and reliable interferon bioassay was applied for interferon level measurements. Statistically significant differences were not found between patients and control groups in either interferon-alpha production or interferon-gamma production.

I reviewed 20 previously published cases of presumed autoimmune corneal endotheliopathy. The disease appeared clinically with stromal edema and a slowly migrating line of keratic precipitates. All patients had acute stromal edema and keratic precipitates, and decreased visual acuity. Anterior chamber cells were noted in 11 patients. Inflammatory processes, such as pars planitis and iritis, and intraocular lens implantation were present in 13 patients.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), has been reported to have various ophthalmologic manifestations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of ophthalmologic manifestations associated with IBD in Korea.
METHODS: Sixty-one patients were examined between May 2013 and October 2014. We performed complete ophthalmologic examinations.

In the present study, two female patients with unilateral scleritis without systemic complications were examined. Both patients were suffering from ocular pain and received corticosteroid therapy. The first patient, a 45-year-old woman, was diagnosed with scleritis and iritis in her right eye. Topical corticosteroid treatment could eradicate the iritis but not the scleritis. A retrospective study of 106 eye which have undergone prophylactic circumferential cryopexy is presented. The complications involving the anterior segment were iritis, transient cycloplegia, as fixed dilated pupil, and cataract formation. At present the eye tuberculosis still occurs only in its reactive form. But also these pathological processes may quite considerably disturb the vision. In the first place are chorioiditis (uveitis posterior), iritis and iridocyclitis (uveitis anterior), uveitis totalis and periphlebitis retinae are by far less frequent. Number and severity of the pathological processes considerably decreased during the last years, above all also the new diseases. Relapses are still increasedly observed. The problems of diagnostics and the necessary therapeutic measures are described.
