PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with disc reduction for pediatric condylar fractures (CFs) and assess mandibular growth outcomes using three-dimensional (3D) CT measurement.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients under 18 years with CF who underwent ORIF with disc reduction were recruited in the study. Bisphosphonates are potent inhibitors of bone resorption, and are used in the treatment of osteoporosis and other diseases that cause bone mass loss, such as Paget's disease, bone metastases, and multiple myeloma, to prevent pathological fractures. This article is a report on a fracture of the lower jaw in osteogenesis imperfecta. In this disease, fractures of the facial part of the skull are very rare, in contrast to fractures of the extremities; they may possibly occur in adults only if the bone is weakened by additional processes--in the present case, by an odontogenous cyst. In the case described here, successful treatment of the fracture could be effected via intraoral approach by means of a functionally stable osteosynthesis performed with plates.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a common condition and is associated with increased risk of fracture, including hip and vertebral fractures that in turn can have devastating consequences on morbidity and mortality. In this article, we review the pathogenesis and diagnostic approach to postmenopausal osteoporosis. We review available nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic therapies and we discuss their clinical efficacy and complications, with a detailed discussion of atypical femur fractures and osteonecrosis of the jaw.

The cause of most fracture gap infections is either a lack of or inadequate primary management. It is therefore imperative that jaw fractures be handled initially by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The objective this study was to summarize long-term risks associated with bisphosphonate therapy. Search of relevant medical publications for data from clinical trials, trial extensions, observational studies and post-marketing reports. It can be challenging to create a safe airway in maxilla facial fracture and some skull surgeries. In this case study, the patient experienced jaw fractures that disturbed the dental occlusion and associated fracture of the base of the skull. Neither nasal nor oral intubation was possible based on the side effects of tracheotomy; therefore, submental intubation was applied successfully. The procedure and results are presented in the text.

Comminuted mandibular fractures are common following a high-velocity injury to the face and jaws. The inherent nature of injury and damage to the underlying hard and soft tissues often complicate the management of comminuted fractures. Traditionally, comminuted fractures were managed by closed reduction and external skeletal fixation. Titanium mesh serves as an excellent alternative in the management of comminuted mandibular fractures. The present case report presents the successful management of comminuted mandibular fractures using titanium mesh.
