Bibliometric Analysis of the Knowledge Base and Future Trends on Sarcopenia from 1999-2021.

Sarcopenia is characterized by progressive loss of muscle mass and function, and it is becoming a serious public health problem with the aging population. However, a comprehensive overview of the knowledge base and future trends is still lacking. The articles and reviews with "sarcopenia" in their title published from 1999 to 2021 in the SCIE database were retrieved. We used Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace to conduct a descriptive and bibliometric analysis. A total of 3582 publications were collected, from 4 published in 2000 increasing dramatically to 850 documents in 2021. The USA

Survey of U.S. based veterinarians' knowledge, perceptions and practices about canine giardiasis.

Giardia spp. is a protozoal parasite capable of causing diarrhea in mammals. Certain Giardia assemblages are potentially zoonotic. As part of a public health study, a questionnaire-based cross-sectional web survey was distributed among U.S. small and mixed animal veterinarians to assess the perceived prevalence, the preferred testing and treatment methods, the recommended control measures, and the information communicated about the zoonotic potential of canine giardiasis. Between February and June 2021, over 123 veterinarians from 31 U.S. states participated in the survey. 77% of surveyed vete

Knowledge and DdeI Based Confirmation of Sickle Cell Anemia Among the Tharu Community.

BACKGROUND: Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disorder caused due to a point mutation at the sixth codon of the ?-globin gene of both alleles. Sickle cell traits occur when the mutation is in one of the two alleles of the ?-globin genes. This study was carried out in the Tharu community, which is an indigenous and minority group mostly residing in the Terai region of Nepal. They are also considered as the most vulnerable group for inheriting Sickle cell anemia. METHODS: Purposive sampling, which included 130 Tharu individuals of Kanchanpur district of Nepal, was considered for the stud

[Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion:Safe Surgical Operation Based on Detailed Anatomical Knowledge].

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion(ACDF)was developed by R.B. Cloward in the 1950s and it has spread over the world for the treatment of the spinal degenerative disorders. It is considered to be the most effective treatment for patients with anterior compression of the spinal cord. Because most of the surgical complications reportedly occur while approaching the vertebral column through the subcutaneous tissues, precise knowledge of the topographic anatomy of the neck is crucial for effective and safe surgery. In this paper, we describe the appropriate surgical maneuvers in each surgical

AddictGene: An integrated knowledge base for differentially expressed genes associated with addictive substance.

Addiction, a disorder of maladaptive brain plasticity, is associated with changes in numerous gene expressions. Nowadays, high-throughput sequencing data on addictive substance-induced gene expression have become widely available. A resource for comprehensive annotation of genes that show differential expression in response to commonly abused substances is necessary. So, we developed AddictGene by integrating gene expression, gene-gene interaction, gene-drug interaction and epigenetic regulatory annotation for over 70,156 items of differentially expressed genes associated with 7 commonly abuse

Effect of theory-based contraception comics on subjective contraceptive knowledge: a pilot study.

OBJECTIVES: We assessed the effect on subjective knowledge of a pilot educational comic decision aid about contraceptive methods. STUDY DESIGN: We designed four comics (www.birthcontroltales.com), each about a different contraceptive method choice. The comics employ a theoretical framework, and the methods addressed were injection, intrauterine device, implant and combined hormonal contraceptives (including pill, patch and ring). The study population included young women presenting to a college student health clinic whose preferred language is English. Participants had not used the contracept

A computational knowledge-based model for emulating human performance in the Iowa Gambling Task.

A new computational knowledge-based model for emulating human performance in decision making tasks is proposed. This model is mainly based on the knowledge acquired through past experience, the knowledge extracted from the environment and the relationships between the concepts that represent these two kinds of knowledge. The proposed model divides the decision making process into two phases. The first phase lies in the estimation of the decision outcomes using a net of concepts. In the second phase, the proposed model uses a value function to score each possible alternative. The design of the

A knowledge-based weighting framework to boost the power of genome-wide association studies.

BACKGROUND: We are moving to second-wave analysis of genome-wide association studies (GWAS), characterized by comprehensive bioinformatical and statistical evaluation of genetic associations. Existing biological knowledge is very valuable for GWAS, which may help improve their detection power particularly for disease susceptibility loci of moderate effect size. However, a challenging question is how to utilize available resources that are very heterogeneous to quantitatively evaluate the statistic significances. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We present a novel knowledge-based weighting fram

Attitudes and knowledge of colorectal cancer and screening in Hong Kong: a population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks third of all cancer mortalities in Hong Kong. CRC screening can reduce mortality. However, participation in the CRC screening program depends on the knowledge and attitude of the population. The aim of this study is to investigate the knowledge and attitude towards CRC screening in the Hong Kong population. METHODS: One thousand and thirty-three patients were interviewed by telephone survey. Knowledge and attitudes were assessed by using questionnaires. RESULTS: Only 8.9% of the respondents were able to mention that CRC was the second commonest cance

Using evidence-based educational strategies to increase knowledge and skills in tobacco cessation.

To meet the demand for improved patient outcomes and accountability for healthcare delivery, nurses must embrace a culture of evidence-based practice (EBP). Integrating EBP for tobacco cessation in nursing practice is particularly important for the 44.5 million smokers in the United States who contribute to 157 billion dollars of healthcare costs annually. Unfortunately, studies reveal that healthcare providers are not aware of what is considered the best evidence, the United States Public Health Service Clinical Practice Guideline: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence, resulting in missed oppo

Knowledge Discovery on Functional Disabilities: Clustering Based on Rules versus other Approaches.

In Europe senior citizens are a fast growing part of population, increasing proportion of disabled persons and that of persons with reduced quality of life. The concept of disability itself is not always precise and quantifiable. To improve agreement on it, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed the clinical test WHO Disability Assessment Schedule, (WHO-DASII) that includes physical, mental, and social well-being, as a generic measure of functioning. From the medical point of view, the purpose of this work is to extract knowledge about performance of the WHO-DASII using a sample of pati

Quantitative evaluation of protein-DNA interactions using an optimized knowledge-based potential.

Computational evaluation of protein-DNA interaction is important for the identification of DNA-binding sites and genome annotation. It could validate the predicted binding motifs by sequence-based approaches through the calculation of the binding affinity between a protein and DNA. Such an evaluation should take into account structural information to deal with the complicated effects from DNA structural deformation, distance-dependent multi-body interactions and solvation contributions. In this paper, we present a knowledge-based potential built on interactions between protein residues and DNA

Improvement in tangential breast planning efficiency using a knowledge-based expert system.

A knowledge-based expert system was developed for the purpose of improving radiotherapy planning efficiency for a standardized, tangential breast technique. Treatment parameters pertaining to 150 previously planned patients were used for correlating the midplane breast contour of a new patient with an appropriate set of tangential beam weights and wedge angles; other treatment parameters including, planning target volume and isocenter, were specified by a radiation oncologist. Treatment plans generated by the expert system approach and a traditional, dosimetric approach were compared and rated

A community-based study of parents' knowledge, attitudes and beliefs related to childhood injuries.

This study assessed parents' knowledge of injury risks for children, attitudes within children's injury-risk behaviours, and beliefs related to a number of aspects of childhood injuries. Parents completed questionnaires and participated in discussions using scenarios depicting child-injury situations that involved a parent and child. Results indicated that parents view injuries largely as a natural consequence of childhood and they believe children learn about risk avoidance from injury experiences. Parents' responses did not indicate a strong belief that injuries to children are preventable o

Impact of a clinic-based growth monitoring programme on maternal nutrition knowledge in Lesotho.

An evaluation of the impact of a nationwide clinic-based growth monitoring (GM) programme was done in Lesotho to determine if clinic attendance was associated with improved maternal knowledge of weaning practices and diarrhoea. A total of 907 mothers from eight clinics were included in the study. Our results showed that mothers who had attended the clinics knew more about the appropriate timing for introducing animal protein-rich foods in the child's diet and about the use of oral rehydration salts for diarrhoea, than those who had not. The difference in knowledge between previous clinic atten
