Mitogen-induced blast transformation of peripheral blood lymphocytes and quantitative changes in circulating T- and B-cells were studied serially in cats inoculated with feline leukemia virus (FeLV). Information of the frequency and morphological characteristics of spontaneous hemoblastoses in dogs and cats observed in 1966-1978 are presented. Hemoblastoses were diagnosed in 90 dogs and 12 cats. Sheep were experimentally infected with bovine leukaemia virus (BLV) by the inoculation of PBL from leukaemic sheep. Antibodies to viral structural proteins were detected at from 2 to 6 weeks after inoculation. Cats exposed to the feline leukemia virus (FeLV) may mount an effective immune response and eliminate the virus, develop a non-viremic, latent infection or become persistently infected and shed the virus. Stable, tandem dicentric chromosomes were discovered in two mutant cell colonies resulting from exposure of L5178Y mouse lymphoma cells to chemical mutagens. These unusual dicentrics were present in all metaphase cells examined from these colonies, even after approximately 65 cell generations in culture. Observation of cells in metaphase and anaphase suggests that the interstitial centromere in these dicentrics is non-functional, and that the terminal centromere is solely responsible for their orderly anaphase segregation.

Several derivatives of rifamycin, and analogs of the tilorone-fluoranthene group were tested for inhibition of splenic enlargement in Friend virus leukemia. PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop a method to detect ovarian residual disease by multicolor flow cytometry in acute leukemia patients.
METHODS: We designed an experimental model consisting in adding acute leukemia cells to a cell suspension obtained from healthy ovarian cortex. Leukemic cell detection within the ovarian cell suspension required the development of a specific myeloid antibody panel different from that commonly used for minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring in bone marrow. The method was then used to detect ovarian residual disease in 11 acute leukemia patients.

Acute Leukemia is a life-threatening disease common both in children and adults that can lead to death if left untreated. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) spreads out in children's bodies rapidly and takes the life within a few weeks. To diagnose ALL, the hematologists perform blood and bone marrow examination. Manual blood testing techniques that have been used since long time are often slow and come out with the less accurate diagnosis. This work improves the diagnosis of ALL with a computer-aided system, which yields accurate result by using image processing and deep learning techniques.

Both splenectomy and alpha-interferon are efficient treatments for hairy cell leukemia.
