Skin lesions and neutrophilic leukemoid reaction in a patient with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma: a case report and review of the literature.

Here, we present a 53-year-old man with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma accompanied by skin lesions (vesicles, papulovesicles, and miliary papules symmetrically distributed on extremities and trunk, with more distal lesions increasing in severity). Routine blood tests showed a white blood cell count of 58.97 × 109/L (Neutrophils% 91.64%).

Neonatal early-onset sepsis caused by Streptococcus Gallolyticus subsp. Pasteurianus with severe pulmonary hypertension and leukemoid reaction: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus (SGSP) is an uncommon cause of neonatal early-onset sepsis (EOS). We present a case of neonatal EOS attributed to SGSP in an infant complicated by meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) and congenital pneumonia. The infant developed severe pulmonary hypertension and exhibited a leukemoid reaction during recovery. The clinical features of this case are rare, and a comprehensive review of her peripartum and follow-up data could enhance our understanding of this organism. CASE PRESENTATION: This is a full-term female neonate born to a health

Incidence, significance, and kinetic mechanism responsible for leukemoid reactions in patients in the neonatal intensive care unit: a prospective evaluation.

OBJECTIVE: To prospectively investigate the incidence, significance, and kinetic mechanism responsible for leukemoid reactions in patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). DESIGN: We prospectively studied all infants admitted to the NICU at the University of Florida who, during a period of 12 consecutive months, had a leukemoid reaction. All those identified had a standardized evaluation consisting of (1) karyotype analysis, (2) bacterial cultures, (3) evaluations for toxoplasmosis, other (congenital syphilis and viruses), rubella, cytomegalovirus, and herpes simplex virus) (TORCH)

Case Report: Primary hepatic carcinosarcoma with ectopic β-hCG secretion and a paraneoplastic leukemoid reaction mimicking gynecologic and hematologic disease.

Primary hepatic carcinosarcoma is an exceptionally rare and highly aggressive malignancy, and ectopic β-hCG production and paraneoplastic leukemoid reaction are both uncommon findings in solid tumors. We report the case of a 47-year-old woman who initially presented with abnormal vaginal bleeding and elevated serum β-hCG, raising concern for a pregnancy-related disorder. Diagnostic curettage showed no evidence of pregnancy or trophoblastic disease, yet the β-hCG level continued to rise. At the same time, she developed extreme leukocytosis, and bone marrow examination favored a leukemoid reacti

Transient Leukemoid Reaction from T-Cell Large Granular Lymphocytes Post Autologous Stem Cell Transplant in a Patient Affected by Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Monoclonal T-cell lymphocytosis has been reported in patients with concomitant autoimmune diseases, viral infections, or immunodeficiencies. Referred to as T-cell large granular lymphocytic leukemia (T-LGLL), most cases cannot identify the triggering cause. Only small case series have been reported in the literature, and no treatment consensus exists. T-cell lymphocytosis may also appear after the transplant of hematopoietic stem cells or solid organs. Rare cases have been reported in patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) for hematological diseases (including multiple myel

An Uncommon Presentation of Paraneoplastic Leukemoid Reaction (PLR) in a Rare Case of Adenosquamous Carcinoma (ASC) of the Gallbladder (GB): A Case Report.

This case report describes an unusual paraneoplastic leukemoid response presenting in a rare instance of gallbladder (GB) adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC). Adenocarcinoma is the most prevalent histological subtype of GB carcinoma, which is most frequently diagnosed in people in their sixth and seventh decades of life. Adenosquamous and squamous variations are uncommon. Rarely have reports of paraneoplastic leukemoid reaction (PLR) in GB carcinoma been made; this reaction is characterized by a white cell count exceeding 50,000/mm3 in combination with solid malignancy. PLR has most commonly been fo

EphA4-deleted microenvironment regulates cancer development and leukemoid reaction of the isografted 4T1 murine breast cancer via reduction of an IGF1 signal.

UNLABELLED: EphA4 belongs to the largest family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). Although EphA4 is highly expressed in the central nervous system, EphA4 has also been implicated in cancer progression. Most of the studies focus on the expression and function in tumor cells. It is unknown whether EphA4-deleted microenvironment affects tumor progression. Some of cancers in animals and humans, such as 4T1 cancer cells, are known to produce a large amount of granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (G-CSF/Csf3) which can stimulate myeloproliferation, such as myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC

[T lymphoblastic leukemia with leukemoid reaction or the extramedullary blast crisis of Philadelphia chromosome-negative chronic myeloid leukemia? Comments apropos 2 cases].

Reactive leukocytosis has been reported in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of different histologic types. On the other hand, the blastic crisis of chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML) can sometimes be localized outside the bone marrow and simulate lymphoma, particularly when the blasts are of lymphoid lineage and the blastic crisis is the presenting feature of the disease. We report two patients in whom the differential diagnosis between lymphoblastic lymphoma with reactive leukocytosis and blastic crisis of CML outside the bone marrow was raised. They were two males aged 32 and 22 years, re

Eosinophilic Leukemoid Reaction with Eosinophilic Tumor Tissue Infiltration as an Extermely Poor Prognostic Factor in Urinary Bladder Cancer- a Known Entity Revisited.

Eosinophilia can be a manifestation of a variety of causes such as infections, allergic reactions and autoimmune processes. Also, it is described in various solid malignancies in the presence of tumour eosinophilic infiltration. We report a patient of high-grade urinary bladder cancer with eosinophilic leukemoid reaction and tumour histopathology demonstrated diffuse infiltration of eosinophils. Though the entity is described to carry a good prognosis in literature, our experience is totally different as the patient deteriorated rapidly in a matter of days, was deemed inoperable in view of wor

Tocilizumab as a novel bridging therapy for surgery in dedifferentiated liposarcoma complicated by paraneoplastic leukemoid reaction, severe anemia, and thrombocytopenia: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) is a malignant mesenchymal tumor. While paraneoplastic leukemoid reaction (PLR) has been sporadically reported in DDLPS, its coexistence with severe anemia and thrombocytopenia, constituting a severe cytokine release syndrome (CRS), is exceedingly rare and presents a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. CASE PRESENTATION: A 56-year-old male with recurrent retroperitoneal well-differentiated liposarcoma presented with high fever, profound leukocytosis (WBC up to 43×109/L), severe anemia (Hb 30 g/L), and thrombocytopenia (platelets 1

Case Report: diffuse entire gastrointestinal tract involvement of ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma harboring JAK-STAT pathway mutations in an adolescent with leukemoid reaction.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALK+ ALCL) is an aggressive mature T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Its typical characteristics include positive CD30 and ALK expression detected by immunohistochemistry, and it is often accompanied by ALK gene translocation, among which the chromosomal translocation t (2;5) is the most common. This disease predominantly affects young individuals, with extranodal involvement being relatively common. However, cases involving the digestive tract are relatively rare. We report a rare case of a 14-year-old female with ALK+ALCL present

Paraneoplastic leukemoid syndrome in squamous cell carcinoma of the forearm.

The paraneoplastic leukemoid reaction is a rare haematological paraneoplastic syndrome, which is typically seen with solid tumours and squamous cell carcinomas. As an indication of bone marrow infiltration and malignancy involvement, it indicates a poor outcome and a grave prognosis. We report a woman in her 50s, who presented with an ulcer over the right forearm. Biopsy revealed squamous cell carcinoma. The patient underwent radiological investigations, which showed the presence of metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. Incidentally, the patient was found to have leucocytosis, which was attribut

Monocytosis in congenital syphilis.

We evaluated hematological findings, with special reference to the monocyte count, in ten infants with congenital syphilis. One patient had a monocytic leukemoid reaction and eight had absolute monocyte counts considerably higher than normal control infants. Monocytes appear to be an essential participant in the cellular reaction to treponema pallidum. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a monocytic leukemoid reaction in congenital syphilis.

Preleukemic phase of chronic myelogenous leukemia: morphologic and immunohistochemical characterization of 7 cases.

Patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) present typically with an elevated white blood cell count (WBC) and cytogenetic or molecular genetic evidence of t(9;22)/BCR-ABL1 fusion gene. Rarely, CML patients may present with a normal or mildly elevated WBC and are asymptomatic, and we describe 7 patients in this study. The WBC in these patients ranged from 3.6 to 14.3 K/mm(3) with 50% to 73% granulocytes and 0% blasts. In all patients, t(9;22)(q34;q11.2) was detected by conventional cytogenetics, and BCR-ABL1 fusion was shown, supporting the diagnosis of preleukemic CML (pre-CML). We comp

Severe neutrophilia in an infant with persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn.

We report the case of a term male infant with severe persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, who developed massive neutrophilia of unknown etiology. An extensive evaluation failed to disclose an obvious cause for his neutrophilia. A bone marrow aspirate was performed and was consistent with a leukemoid reaction. This paper reviews the neonatal leukemoid reaction and its significance.

An Unusual Presentation of Neonatal Sepsis as Hyperleukocytosis With Firm Lymphadenopathy: A Diagnostic Challenge.

The neonatal leukemoid reaction is an acute response of the body to stress. Any inflammatory processes in the newborn period may lead to an increase in the white blood cell (WBC) count. Hyperleukocytosis refers to an extremely elevated leukocyte count beyond 100,000/cubic millimeter (cumm). Here, we report a case of a leukemoid reaction in a newborn who presented with fever, swelling over the neck, and failure to thrive. Peripheral smear showed the presence of all precursors of white blood cells, but no blast cells were seen. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) did not show any abnormal cel

Behavioral evaluation of 65 aggressive dogs following a reported bite event.

This paper reports a case of neonatal hyperleukocytosis in a dog due to a bacterial infection. A 3-week-old, mixed-breed dog was brought to a veterinary college referral center with a history of weight loss despite a good appetite. Clinical and laboratory examinations included: physical examination, complete blood (cell) count (CBC), serum biochemistry profile, abdominal ultrasound examination, and cytology of liver and bone marrow aspirates. The CBC showed hyperleukocytosis of 158.0 × 109/L (RI: 2.1 to 21.2 × 109/L) and hematocrit of 0.19 L/L (RI: 0.21 to 0.34 L/L). The strong leukemoid react
