Cleft of lip and palate: A review.

Cleft of lip and palate are most common serial congenital anomalies to affect the orofacial region . It can occur isolated or together in various combination and/or along with other congenital deformities particularly congenital heart diseases. .Patient with oro-facial cleft deformity needs to be treated at right time and at right age to achieve functional and esthetic well being. Successful management of the child born with a cleft lip and palate requires coordinated care provided by a number of different specialties including oral/maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, genetics/dysmorphology

GAPDH-Silence Microsphere via Reprogramming Macrophage Metabolism and eradicating Bacteria for Diabetic infection bone regeneration.

Macrophage metabolism dysregulation, which is exacerbated by persistent stimulation in infectious and inflammatory diseases, such as diabetic infectious bone defects (DIBD), eventually leads to the failure of bone repair. Here, we have developed an injectable, macrophage-modulated GAPDH-Silence drug delivery system. This microsphere comprises chondroitin sulfate methacrylate (CM) and methacrylated gelatin (GM), while the dimethyl fumarate (DMF)-loaded liposome (D-lip) is encapsulated within the microsphere (CM@GM), named D-lip/CM@GM. Triggered by the over-expressed collagenase in DIBD, the mic

Update on lymphoid interstitial pneumonitis.

Lymphoid interstitial pneumonitis (LIP) involves a clinicopathologic pattern of pulmonary disease characterized by diffuse interstitial reactive lymphoid infiltrates. In adults, it occurs most commonly in autoimmune diseases, such as Sjögren's syndrome (0.9% of these patients) and primary biliary cirrhosis, whereas in children it is usually seen in HIV infection. Dysproteinemias (hyper- and hypogammaglobulinemia) are found in more than 60% of patients. Children can show CD8-lymphocytosis in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, lung tissue, peripheral blood, and salivary gland, associated with HLA-DR5

Accessory or sublingual salivary gland biopsy to assess systemic disease: a comparative retrospective study.

Minor salivary gland biopsies are commonly performed as part of the diagnosis of Sjögren's syndrome or other systemic diseases. Until now, a lip biopsy taken from inside the inferior lip has been the most often performed method to assess the accessory salivary glands. Because of the risk of damaging the inferior alveolar nerve and of harvesting non-contributive biopsies, for the past several years we have chosen the sublingual biopsy described by Adam. The aim of this study was to describe the indication and diagnosis and to evaluate work incapacity, pain and the complication rate among our sa

Long-term results of unilateral cleft lip repair with multiple infantile hemangiomas including one involving the cleft side of the upper lip.

Infantile hemangiomas have a growth phase and an involution phase. For this reason, serial observation has generally been recommended as the treatment for uncomplicated infantile hemangiomas. Recently, however, individualized approaches have been emphasized. Although cleft lip and infantile hemangioma are common congenital diseases, infantile hemangiomas on the cleft side (i.e., in the operative field of the cleft lip) are extremely rare, and no clear guidelines have been established for their treatment. We experienced a case in which a patient with a cleft lip had an infantile hemangioma on t

Liposomes Loaded with Everolimus and Coated with Hyaluronic Acid: A Promising Approach for Lung Fibrosis.

Chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) and interstitial lung disease associated with collagen tissue diseases (CTD-ILD) are two end-stage lung disorders in which different chronic triggers induce activation of myo-/fibroblasts (LFs). Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be adopted as a potential strategy for CLAD and CTD-ILD, however it exerts important side effects. This study aims to exploit nanomedicine to reduce everolimus side effects encapsulating it inside liposomes targeted against LFs, expressing a high rate of CD44. PEGylated liposomes were modified with high molecular weight hyalur

A histologically proven case of lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia in a HIV infected adult with an undetectable viral load.

Lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia (LIP) is on the spectrum of lymphoproliferative diseases that can affect the lungs. Although common in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected children, it is rarely reported in adults. A 51-year-old HIV infected female patient presented with worsening dyspnea over five months. She had radiological findings of bilateral lung nodular infiltrates. Her CD4 count was 835 cells/uL and her HIV viral load was undetectable. Bronchoalveolar lavage did not yield any infectious pathogen. The pathology on an open lung biopsy revealed marked lymphocytic infiltrates an

Inhalation of L-arginine-modified liposomes targeting M1 macrophages to enhance curcumin therapeutic efficacy in ALI.

Acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS), characterized by uncontrolled lung inflammation, is one of the most devastating diseases with high morbidity and mortality. As the first line of defense system, macrophages play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of ALI/ARDS. Therefore, it has great potential to selectively target M1 macrophages to improve the therapeutic effect of anti-inflammatory drugs. l-arginine plays a key role in regulating the immune function of macrophages. The receptors mediating l-arginine uptake are highly expressed on the surface of M1-type macropha

The mouse as a developmental model for cleft lip and palate research.

Vertebrate and invertebrate model organisms are essential for deciphering biological processes. One of these, the mouse, proved to be a valuable model for understanding the etiopathogenesis of a vast array of human diseases, including congenital malformations such as orofacial clefting conditions. This small mammal's usefulness in cleft lip and palate research stems not only from the striking anatomical and molecular similarities of lip and palate development between human and mouse embryos, but also from its amenability to experimental and genetic manipulation. Using some recent studies as il

Primary giant mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma of the lower lip: a case report and literature review.

Oral lymphomas are rare and difficult to diagnose, with Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) lymphoma most commonly affecting older adults, particularly women. MALT lymphoma of the lip is exceptionally rare, and its cause is poorly understood. We present a case of primary giant MALT lymphoma of the lower lip, explore its clinicopathological features, and review relevant literature. An 83-year-old woman developed a painless, pea-sized swelling on the right lower lip over three years, which gradually increased in size without discomfort. She had no history of chronic infections or autoimmune

Panobinostat-loaded folate targeted liposomes as a promising drug delivery system for treatment of canine B-cell lymphoma.

IntroductionCancer is a major public health problem with over 19 million cases reported in 2020. Similarly to humans, dogs are also largely affected by cancer, with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) among the most common cancers in both species. Comparative medicine has the potential to accelerate the development of new therapeutic options in oncology by leveraging commonalities between diseases affecting both humans and animals. Within this context, in the present study, we investigated the potential of panobinostat (Pan)-loaded folate-targeted PEGylated liposomes (FA-PEG-Pan-Lip) for the treatmen

Antibody-conjugated liposomes loaded with indocyanine green for oral targeted photoacoustic imaging-guided sonodynamic therapy of Helicobacter pylori infection.

Helicobacter pylori is a causative factor of various gastrointestinal tract diseases. As clinical antibiotic-based therapy for H. pylori infection might induce bacterial drug resistance, the in vivo eradication of H. pylori remains a huge challenge. In the present study, monoclonal antibody-conjugated liposomes loaded with indocyanine green (ICG) (HpAb-LiP-ICG) were successfully developed for targeted photoacoustic (PA) imaging-guided sonodynamic therapy (SDT) of H. pylori infection in vivo. HpAb-LiP-ICG showed high stability and favorable biocompatibility in acidic environment (pH 1.5) and wa

Cheiloscopy and dermatoglyphics in normal and obese individuals: A study in Indian subpopulation.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of obesity has been steadily increasing worldwide. Reliable and noninvasive tools that can be used to diagnose such conditions may help us in mass screening and prevention. Finger prints and lip prints have been used as the genetic markers in some diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Studies to correlate a possible association of such markers among obese individuals have not been reported in India to date. The present study was conducted to determine and compare the lip print and finger print patterns in normal and obese individuals and also to evaluate any possible c

DNA methylation profile of lip tissue from congenital nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate patients by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing.

Congenital nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate (NSCLP) is one of the most common malformations worldwide. DNA methylation has been implicated in many diseases. However, its involvement in lip tissue from NSCLP is not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the role of dysregulated DNA methylation in NSCLP. DNA methylation profile was determined in eight injured and five self-normal lip tissue samples from children with NSCLP by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing. A total of 2,711 differentially methylated regions (DMRs), corresponding to 1,231 genes were identified. Given the important r
