Determination of organophosphorus pesticides and metabolites in cereal-based baby foods and wheat flour by means of ultrasound-assisted extraction and hollow-fiber liquid-phase microextraction prior to gas chromatography with nitrogen phosphorus detection.

A new method based on hollow-fiber liquid-phase microextraction (HF-LPME) has been developed for the determination of a group of organophosphorus pesticides, including some of their metabolites, in two commercial cereal-based baby foods and one wheat flour prior to gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphorus detection. Samples were first extracted by ultrasound-assisted extraction with acetonitrile (ACN) containing 1.25% (v/v) of formic acid. After evaporation and reconstitution in Milli-Q water, the HF-LPME procedure, using 1-octanol as extraction solvent, was applied followed by a desorption step

Recent developments in plasma sample preparation methods for targeted metabolomics studies with liquid chromatography mass spectrometry.

Targeted metabolomics focuses on the quantification of a selected set of metabolites of interest from biological samples. The obtained data is used to better understand the physiological and pathophysiological state of an organism. Plasma samples are commonly analyzed with liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry but require prior sample preparation. In preclinical studies sample volumes are often limited and metabolites of interest are typically present at low concentrations. As a result, there is a growing need for miniaturized sample preparation methods with high extraction effici

Current Sample Preparation Methodologies for Determination of Catecholamines and Their Metabolites.

Catecholamines (CAs) and their metabolites play significant roles in many physiological processes. Changes in CAs concentration in vivo can serve as potential indicators for the diagnosis of several diseases such as pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma. Thus, the accurate quantification of CAs and their metabolites in biological samples is quite important and has attracted great research interest. However, due to their extremely low concentrations and numerous co-existing biological interferences, direct analysis of these endogenous compounds often suffers from severe difficulties. Sample preparation strategies for the determination of psychoactive substances in biological fluids.

This review focuses on the existing analytical procedures for the determination of new psychoactive substances (NPS) in biological fluids by chromatographic methods. Direct analysis of samples is scarcely employed and most proposed methodologies include a sample pre-treatment in order to remove matrix interferents and, in some cases, pre-concentrate extracts. Current extraction methods for NPS determination in plasma/serum, urine, and oral fluids have been widely discussed, such as liquid-liquid, solid-phase, and micro extraction approaches, highlighting the advantages and drawbacks of the pro
