Development and validation of a nomogram for predicting survival on the base of modified lymph node ratio in breast cancer patients.

BACKGROUND: Axillary lymph node status is one of the most important prognostic factors in breast cancer and previous studies indicated that lymph node ratio (LNR) could better predict the outcome than the counting of positive lymph nodes. In the current study, we evaluated the prognostic effect of modified LNR in breast cancer patients. METHODS: A total of 3339 breast cancer patients undergoing axillary lymph nodes dissection were enrolled and respectively analyzed. Seventy five percent of participants were randomly selected as training cohort and the remaining 25% were as validation cohort.

Ratio of lymph node to primary tumor SUVmax multiplied by maximal tumor diameter on positron emission tomography/integrated computed tomography may be a predictor of mediastinal lymph node malignancy in lung cancer.

Positron emission tomography/integrated computed tomography (PET/CT) provides the most accurate imaging modality for preoperative lung cancer staging. However, the diagnostic accuracy of maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) for mediastinal (N2) lymph nodes (LN) is unclear. We compared SUVmax, the ratio of LN to primary tumor SUVmax (SUVn/t), and SUVn/t multiplied by maximal tumor diameter (SUVindex) in terms of their abilities to predict mediastinal LN malignancy. We retrospectively analyzed 170 mediastinal LN stations from 73 consecutive patients who underwent systemic LN resection and P

Using the lymph nodal ratio to predict the risk of locoregional recurrence in lymph node-positive breast cancer patients treated with mastectomy without radiation therapy.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the prognostic value of axillary lymph node ratio (LNR) as compared to the number of involved nodes (pN stage) in patients with axillary lymph node-positive breast cancer treated with mastectomy without radiation. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of the clinical data of patients with stage II-III node-positive breast cancer (N=1068) between 1998 and 2007. Locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) and overall survival (OS) were compared based on the LNR and pN staging. RESULTS: A total of 780 cases were classified as pN1, 183 as pN2, and 105 as pN3. Predictive value of lymph node ratio on survival outcomes in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: A tertiary cancer centre experience.

INTRODUCTION: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common type of esophageal cancer in the developing world. The nodal staging for it is based on the number of positive nodes at present. Lymph node ratio (LN ratio) has recently been recognized as an independent predictor of survival in esophageal cancer. We wanted to evaluate the impact of LN ratio of survival in patients undergoing esophagectomy at our center. METHODS: A total of 164 patients undergoing esophagectomy for SCC between 2015 and 2022 at a tertiary care center were included in this study. LN ratio was defined as the number o

Lymph node ratio, not nodal stage, predicts overall and disease-free survival in non-ampullary primary small intestine adenocarcinoma.

Lymph node ratio (LNR) has emerged as a strong prognostic indicator in colorectal cancer (CRC), but its significance in non-ampullary primary small intestine adenocarcinoma (SIA) has been only sparsely reported in the literature. Moreover, LNR has not been examined alongside key CRC histologic prognostic variables, including tumor budding (TB), desmoplastic reaction (DR), and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). Eighty-nine cases (mean age: 63 years, range: 20-88) of SIA were included from 2008 to 2023; most tumors arose in the duodenum (40%). Mean follow-up was 40.9 months (range: 0-189). T

Predictive efficacy of the preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in lymph node metastasis of cN0 hormone receptor-positive breast cancer.

Breast cancer, as the most common cancer, has surpassed lung cancer worldwide. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been linked to the onset of cancer and its prognosis in recent studies. However, quite a few studies have shown that there is a link between NLR and lymph node metastases in cN0 hormone receptor-positive (HR(+)) breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between NLR and lymph node metastases in cN0 HR(+) breast cancer patients. From January 2012 to January 2022, 220 patients with cN0 HR(+) invasive breast cancers were enrolled in this study.

Does the metastatic lymph node ratio influence the disease-free survival of patients with breast cancer: single-center experiences.

BACKGROUND: Axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) are the most important prognostic factor for survival in breast cancer. Pathological evaluation can affect the number of involved lymph nodes. In the current study, we evaluated whether the metastatic lymph node ratio (n ratio) is important in predicting disease-free survival (DFS) for breast cancer patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From 802 breast cancer cases, 427 patients with ALN metastasis were analyzed retrospectively. The n ratio was categorized as n ratio 1 (1-10%), n ratio 2 (10.01-50%) and n ratio 3 (>50%). DFS was established according to the K

Prognostic importance of the axillary lymph node ratio in autologous transplantation for high-risk stage II/III breast cancer.

The role of autologous peripheral blood progenitor cell (PBPC) transplantation for high-risk stage II/III breast cancer remains controversial. New prognostic indicators defining subsets of patients who may benefit from autologous PBPC transplantation would be clinically useful. The axillary lymph node ratio, defined by the total number of axillary nodes involved with cancer divided by the number of axillary nodes surgically sampled, has been reported to be of potential prognostic importance in transplantation for high-risk, stage II/III breast cancer. We therefore retrospectively reviewed 111

Prognostic impact of lymph node ratio after suboptimal lymphadenectomy in gastric cancer: a retrospective cohort study with interaction analysis.

BACKGROUND: Accurate prognostic stratification after gastrectomy is crucial for individualized management of gastric cancer. Although examination of at least 15 lymph nodes is recommended to ensure reliable staging, this threshold is not consistently achieved in routine practice, potentially compromising prognostic accuracy. The lymph node ratio (LNR) has been proposed as an alternative nodal metric; however, its prognostic role in the context of suboptimal lymphadenectomy remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of LNR in patients following suboptimal lymphadenectom

Relationship between the ratios of CD4/CD8 T-lymphocytes in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and lymph nodes in patients with sarcoidosis.

BACKGROUND: Evaluating the ratio of CD4/CD8 T-lymphocytes in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) is important for understanding the clinical and pathological conditions of patients with sarcoidosis. However, few studies have thus far demonstrated the usefulness of evaluating the relationship between the ratios of CD4/CD8 T-lymphocytes in the mediastinal lymph nodes and BALF. This study aimed to investigate and identify the relationships between CD4/CD8 T-lymphocyte ratio in the mediastinal lymph nodes and BALF in patients with sarcoidosis. Altered ratio of dendritic cell subsets in skin-draining lymph nodes promotes Th2-driven contact hypersensitivity.

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) specialize in the production of type I IFN (IFN-I). pDCs can be depleted in vivo by injecting diphtheria toxin (DT) in a mouse in which pDCs express a diphtheria toxin receptor (DTR) transgene driven by the human CLEC4C promoter. This promoter is enriched for binding sites for TCF4, a transcription factor that promotes pDC differentiation and expression of pDC markers, including CLEC4C. Here, we found that injection of DT in CLEC4C-DTR+ mice markedly augmented Th2-dependent skin inflammation in a model of contact hypersensitivity (CHS) induced by the hapten
