CASE SUMMARY: A 7-month-old intact female Maine Coon presented with a 2-week history of vomiting. A peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia (PPDH) and a mass arising from the cardia, protruding into the gastric lumen, were diagnosed using a combination of ultrasound and CT. An exploratory gastrotomy revealed a circumferential, irregular, ulcerated mass involving the submucosal layer of the cardia. This mass was excised by partial-thickness resection of the gastro-oesophageal wall. The PPDH was corrected and a gastrostomy feeding tube was placed under the same anaesthetic. Histopathologically

OBJECTIVES: Agriculture is a dangerous industry, and although data on fatal injuries exist, less is known about nonfatal injuries. The purpose of this study is to describe trends in agricultural morbidity in Maine and New Hampshire from 2008 to 2010 using a newly established passive surveillance system. This passive system is supplied by injury cases gathered from prehospital care reports and hospital data.
METHODS: Demographics and specifics of the event were recorded for each incident case.

The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of renal cysts and other renal abnormalities in purebred Maine Coon cats, and to characterise these through genetic typing. Voluntary pre-breeding screening programmes for polycystic kidney disease (PKD) are offered for this breed throughout Switzerland, Germany and other northern European countries. We performed a retrospective evaluation of Maine Coon screening for renal disease at one institution over an 8-year period. Renal ultrasonography was performed in 187 healthy Maine Coon cats. Renal changes were observed in 27 of these cats.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common and potentially fatal heart disease in many cat breeds. An intronic variant in TNNT2, c.95-108G>A, was recently reported as the cause of HCM in the Maine Coon. The aim of this study was to determine this variant's allele frequency in different populations and its possible association with HCM. Autoimmune bullous diseases are disorders in which the immune system mistakenly attacks certain molecules that act as "glue" in the various layers of the skin, leading to the formation of bullae or vesicles. A bulla is a liquid-containing lesion over five millimeters in size on the skin or mucous membranes. It forms due to a loss of cohesion between the epidermis and dermis, or between keratinocytes within the epidermis. Diagnosis is based on biopsies, which show the presence of autoantibodies and the depth of skin detachment. A blood test can be used to identify circulating autoantibodies.

The results of treatment of 55 patients, suffering iatrogenic damage of the main vessels, which constitute 22.4% of all damages of vessels occurred during last ten years, were analyzed. The causes of the vessels iatrogenic damage were analyzed in detail. A favorable result achievement, a vessel integrity restoration with maintenance of the vascular tube passability have become possible in 50 (90.9%) patients due to early and technically adequate operation conduction. The extremity amputation was performed in 2 (3.6%) patients, 3 (5.5%) patients died.
