Endodontic treatment of a mandibular second premolar with four canals using operating microscope.

This clinical article presents and describes the endodontic treatment of a mandibular second premolar exhibiting a total of four separate root canals. This incidence in mandibular second premolars is particularly rare in the international endodontic literature. Only some infrequent cases of mandibular second premolars with four canals have been presented; however, this was done without the use of the operating microscope. The use of magnification is a prerequisite to locate and to confirm the exact number and position of canal orifices and to complete successfully the endodontic treatment. The

Pathological conditions of the mandible: their effect on the radiographic appearance of the inferior dental (mandibular) canal.

Whilst the special anatomical features of the mandible may make radiographic comparison of jaw lesions with similar conditions in other bones more difficult, the changes that occur in respect to the mandibular canal and the teeth may in themselves aid diagnosis. Benign cysts and neoplasms generally cause a displacement of the mandibular canal, but its cortical plate remains intact, Severe infections and malignant tumours result in an irregular erosion of bone and loss of the sclerotic outlines of the canal.

Proximity of posterior teeth to mandibular canal with 3D measurements in a population of western China.

OBJECTIVES: The mandibular canal (MC) is an important anatomical structure that sometimes incurs injuries. Complications, such as paresthesia, neuropathic pain, and numbness, usually occur and are challenging for patients and dentists to resolve. The relationship of the MC with mandibular posterior teeth is of great clinical importance to avoid damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the proximity of adjacent teeth to the MC in a Western Chinese population using 3D reconstruction and measurements. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were collected in patients who met th

The Anatomy of the Mandibular Incisive Canal and Its Influence in Implant Therapy: A Scoping Review.

The interforaminal region is considered more favorable for implant placement than the posterior mandible in edentulous patients, mainly because the inferior alveolar nerve can interfere with implant placement in the severely resorbed posterior mandible. However, complications in the interforaminal region may occur due to the presence of the mandibular incisive nerve. This scoping review aims to describe the mandibular incisive nerve anatomy related to the potential interference in implant therapy. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in the following databases: MEDLINE (via PubMed),

[Coronectomy as a surgical treatment of impacted lower molars with mandibular canal close relationship].

Searching for third molars atraumatic removal method remains a challenge in oral surgery. Method of partial removal of impacted tooth leaving a non-extracted root in the wound becomes more popular recently. Determining medical indications for this method, as well as searching for standards for its implementation is important. The paper presents a review on latest technique of performing a coronectomy, and the long-term results of this method. However, the technique of incomplete tooth extraction is highly controversial in terms of harm to the patient's health. There are also uncertain medical

Six Root Canals in Primary Mandibular Second Molar: Report of Two Cases.

UNLABELLED: Anatomical variations in root morphology have been frequently encountered in pediatric endodontic practice. Due to insufficient knowledge of canal anatomy in primary teeth, having unusual canal morphologies is possibly more prone to endodontic treatment failures. Advanced investigations have given the clinician an open handed chance to recognize those variations and thus effectively manage them to achieve desired results. This paper describes the mandibular primary second molar requiring pulp therapy having three separate and distant canals in the mesial and distal root. Such addit

Rare courses of the mandibular canal in the molar regions of the human mandible: a cadaveric study.

The inferior alveolar artery, vein and nerve send some branches to the molar teeth via the mandibular canal to the mental foramen. The present study attempted to define the presence and course of the mandibular canal in the mandible with the alveolar process by macroscopic cadaveric dissection and computerized tomography (CT) in order to provide information that might prevent injuries to vessels and nerves at risk during root canal treatment. We identified the position of the mandibular canal within a 30% ratio of the distance from inferior border of mandible to the apices of the root for 39 o

[Preoperative determination of the position of mandibular canal for planning sagittal ramus osteotomy of the mandible].

BACKGROUND: In the literature the incidence of permanent nerve lesions ranges from 3 to 39%. Therefore, we think that it is necessary to discuss the procedure of individual risk assessment and management. Standard imaging techniques for the preoperative planning and preparation of a sagittal split osteotomy usually include a panoramic radiograph and lateral cephalometric radiograph. If an assessment of the transversal thickness of the lower jaw and cortical substance is required, or the position of the inferior alveolar nerve needs to be determined for preoperative planning, computed tomograph

Root canal treatment in mandibular canines with two roots: a report of two cases.

AIM: To highlight anatomical variation in the mandibular canine. SUMMARY: Two clinical case reports are presented to illustrate anatomical variation in the human mandibular canine. Endodontic treatment may sometimes fail because morphological features of the tooth adversely affect the treatment procedures. Many investigators have reported the anatomical variations associated with mandibular canines. Mandibular canines are recognized as usually having one root and one root canal in most cases, although approximately 15% may have two canals or sometimes two roots. This paper describes two clini

Automated Multi-class Segmentation of Mandibular Odontogenic Cysts and the Mandibular Canal on CBCT Images Using a Hybrid Deep Learning Framework.

Mandibular odontogenic cysts can complicate surgical planning if located near the mandibular canal. Accurate delineation of both structures is therefore clinically important. This study presents a deep learning-based method for simultaneously segmenting mandibular odontogenic cysts and the mandibular canal in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. The developed method relies on a hybrid deep learning architecture integrating a ConvNeXt-Base encoder, a Dilated Context Block, a U-Net-based decoder, and a Deep Supervision mechanism. This framework simultaneously segments the mandibular cana
