Study on prevalence and bacterial etiology of mastitis, and effects of subclinical mastitis and stage of lactation on SCC in dairy goats in Egypt.

In Egypt, inadequate information on prevalence and epidemiology of caprine mastitis is available. This study was designed to investigate prevalence and etiological agents of caprine mastitis and assess the efficacy of somatic cell count (SCC) as marker of subclinical mastitis (SCM) in dairy goats. This study was carried out on 249 randomly selected lactating goats in different lactation stages and examined clinically. Of these animals, 477 milk samples were aseptically collected and screened for bacterial carriage. SCC was assessed in 234 apparently normal milk samples, and SCC ≥ 106 cells/ml

Novel Polyherbal Nanocolloids to Control Bovine Mastitis.

Mastitis is a widespread disease in dairy cattle occurring throughout the world. The increased use of antibiotics brings about the development of antibiotic-resistant microbes. The application of antibiotics in dairy farming led to increased antibiotic resistance and represents a major obstacle for the treatment of mastitis. Recent advancements in nanotechnology led to the development of nanocolloids to overcome disadvantages posed by conventional antimicrobial agents. Hence, a novel, environmentally friendly, cost-effective, biocompatible, and long-term antibacterial represents a promising so

Plantar erythema nodosum associated with granulomatous mastitis.

For patients and caregivers to be fully informed about how living organ donation or prior kidney injury affects future health, we need to better understand the role of kidney reserve in physiological adaptation, especially during pregnancy. Importantly, epidemiological studies reason that live kidney donors are at increased risk for developing preeclampsia, a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy with serious implications for maternal and fetal health. Despite the import of this finding, the mechanistic basis for this increased risk is not understood. In this issue of the JCI, Dupont, Berg, and c

Recurrent granulomatous mastitis mimicking inflammatory breast cancer.

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is an uncommon benign breast lesion. Diagnosis is a matter of exclusion from other inflammatory, infectious and granulomatous aetiologies. Here, we presented an atypical GM case, which had clinical and radiologic features overlapping with inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). The disease had multiple recurrences. The patient is a 40-year-old Caucasian woman with a sudden onset of left breast swelling accompanied by diffuse skin redness, especially of the subareolar region and malodorous yellow nipple discharge from the left nipple. The disease progressed on antibiotic t

Expanding disease spectrum associated with puerperal mastitis.

BACKGROUND: Staphylococcus aureus and the beta-hemolytic streptococci are the commonest causes of puerperal mastitis which tends to be a localized disease process. This report describes 2 cases attributable to these bacteria that resulted in extramammary involvement and augmented morbidity. CASES: Two cases of postpartum mastitis are described, one leading to necrotizing fasciitis caused by group A streptococci and the other leading to toxic shock syndrome (TSS) caused by S. aureus. CONCLUSION: The spectrum of disease commonly attributed to mastitis occurring in this setting should be expand

Epidemiology of intramammary infections with Staphylococcus aureus and mastitis streptococci in a dairy cattle herd with a history of recurrent clinical mastitis.

The aim of the present work was to examine a dairy herd with an anamnesis of recurrent clinical mastitis and decreased milk production. A total of 239 individual cow milk samples originating from asymptomatic cows were collected at four-month intervals and examined mainly for the presence of Staphylococcus aureus and mastitis streptococci using standard cultivation methods. In total, 29.7% and 9.2% samples were positive for S. aureus and mastitis streptococci, respectively. Unlike for mastitis streptococci, the prevalence of animals positive for S. aureus had an increasing trend (p<0.05; Chi-s

[Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis - a rare inflammatory condition].

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare inflammatory condition of the breast with unknown etiology, primarily affecting women of childbearing age. IGM commonly presents with culture-negative abscesses, often leading to significant scarring, hyperpigmentation, and deformation of the affected breast. Breast cancer and tuberculosis are important differential diagnoses. IGM is confirmed by the presence of non-caseating granulomas and microabscesses on histopathological examination. The literature mainly consists of case studies, and there is no evidence-based treatment. A regional multid

Cystic Neutrophilic Granulomatous Mastitis: A Case Series.

Cystic neutrophilic granulomatous mastitis (CNGM) is a distinct histopathological subtype of granulomatous mastitis that commonly presents as an inflammatory breast lesion in women of reproductive age. We present a retrospective case series of five parous women who presented with unilateral breast lumps between 2023 and 2025. Histopathological examination revealed classical features of CNGM in all cases. Microbiological culture yielded various isolates, including Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum, Tsukamurella species, and Mycolicibacterium fortuitum complex, while two cases showed no growth.

Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis, Erythema Nodosum, and Polyarthritis.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is an inflammatory-mediated rare disease that can be linked to rare manifestations. Erythema nodosum (EN) and polyarthritis, seen in a multitude of autoinflammatory and autoimmune diseases, have been rarely linked to IGM. Despite the cause of IGM being unclear, Corynebacterium infections are thought to play a role in the pathophysiology of IGM. Unusually, IGM has a relapsing and remitting course, which also applies to its systemic manifestations. As such, we present a case of IGM in a middle-aged lady who was initially thought to have Corynebacterium-con

Autoimmune rheumatic diseases associated with granulomatous mastitis.

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a benign, inflammatory condition of the breast that mainly affects women of reproductive age. Although its pathogenesis remains unknown, previous studies revealed an association between autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs) and GM in a subset of patients implicating immune-mediated mechanisms. The aim of this narrative review was to identify and describe the ARDs associated with GM to shed further light on disease pathogenesis. We conducted a comprehensive literature search of patients presenting with GM and coexisting ARDs using electronic databases. An associati

[Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis associated with erythema nodosum].

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare, chronic, granulomatous, inflammatory disorder with potentially misleading clinical and radiological features. IGM is diagnosed after exclusion of infectious or tumoral diseases. Herein we report a case of erythema nodosum associated with IGM, which serves as a reminder that erythema nodosum may constitute an extra-mammary sign of IGM. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A 36-year-old nulliparous woman presented with fever and skin rash at our dermatology clinic at the North Franche-Comté hospital in July 2017. Symptoms had occurred 2 days previ

Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis mastitis in Egyptian dairy goats.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Mastitis is an important threat facing goat milk industry and is the most common cause of culling. Efficient control of mastitis, based on efficient diagnosis of diseased animals, would improve milk production and reproductive efficiency. In subclinical mastitis (SCM), infected goats demonstrate neither udder symptoms nor abnormal milk. Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is an infectious causative agent of mastitis, mostly results as an extension of infection from the supramammary lymph node, and causes financial losses in the goat industry. This study aimed to estimate the
