Impact of a bottom-up community engagement intervention on maternal and child health services utilization in Ghana: a cluster randomised trial.

BACKGROUND: Ghana is among African countries not likely to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) three (3) target of reducing maternal mortality to 70 per 100,000 live births by the year 2030 if maternal and child health services utilization are not improved. Community engagement in health is therefore advocated to help address this challenge. This study evaluated the impact of a community engagement intervention on maternal and child health services utilization in Ghana. METHODS: This study was a cluster randomised trial among primary healthcare facilities (n = 64) in the Greater Ac

Maternal Health Service Uptake Is Associated with a Higher Skin-to-Skin Care Practice in Ethiopia: Result from a National Survey.

BACKGROUND: Though skin-to-skin care (SSC) is becoming an important newborn care package at both facility and community levels in Ethiopia, there is a lack of evidence to monitor the progress at each level. Therefore, this study is aimed at quantifying the proportion of SSC at both national and regional levels and identifying factors that affect SSC uptake in Ethiopia. METHOD: We used the 2016 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey data. The survey employed a multistage cluster sampling method. We included 7,488 live births in the analysis. The factors influencing SSC practice were identified

Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Effects on Maternal Health Service Delivery During Pregnancy and Childbirth in LMICs: A scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Climate change is a major global health challenge of the 21 st century associated with the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall and flooding. These extreme weather events are particularly disruptive in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), as they damage infrastructure, impede access to healthcare, and destabilize service delivery. Such disruptions heighten risks of missed or delayed antenatal care, reliance on unskilled obstetric care, and interruptions in postpartum care, contributing to adverse maternal and newborn outcomes.

A review of geospatial methods for population estimation and their use in constructing reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health service indicators.

BACKGROUND: Household survey data are frequently used to measure reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) service utilisation in low and middle income countries. However, these surveys are typically only undertaken every 5 years and tend to be representative of larger geographical administrative units. Investments in district health management information systems (DHMIS) have increased the capability of countries to collect continuous information on the provision of RMNCAH services at health facilities. However, reliable and recent data on population distributions
