A Giant Mesenteric Cyst in a Prepubertal Girl Mimicking an Ovarian Mass: A Case Report.

Mesenteric cysts are rare benign intra-abdominal lesions in children, often presenting with nonspecific symptoms and posing diagnostic challenges. Their clinical and radiological resemblance to ovarian or paraovarian pathologies may lead to misdiagnosis, especially in female patients. We report the case of an eight-year-old premenarchal girl who presented with chronic abdominal pain and a palpable abdominopelvic mass. Imaging studies revealed a large multiloculated cystic lesion suggestive of a paraovarian cyst or serous cystadenoma. An exploratory laparotomy uncovered a giant mesenteric cyst

Male infant patient with a mesenteric cyst in the greater and lesser omenta: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Mesenteric cysts are intra-abdominal masses of congenital origin, which most frequently occur in children, with an incidence of approximately 1 case per 20,000 pediatric admissions. Its progression can be asymptomatic, and its diagnosis can be incidental. However, it usually occurs with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, sensation of a mass, and/or diarrhea. The diagnostic imaging method of choice is abdominal ultrasound. CASE PRESENTATION: Below, we present the case of a previously healthy 1-year-old male patient with nonspecific symptoms, who was referred to a tert

[Pathologic fluid collection of mesentery, differential diagnosis of mesenteric cysts - case report].

Mesenteric cyst is a pathologic fluid collection that very rarely occurs anywhere in the mesentery of the gastrointestinal tract from the duodenum to the rectum. The etiology of mesenteric cysts has not yet been completely understood. It ranges from tumorous, infectious, lymphatic and embryological to post-traumatic or post-operative origin. Symptoms of the illness are usually non-specific, caused mainly by intestinal obstruction. Diagnosis is often accidental. Therapy is exclusively surgical. In the following text, the authors present a case report of a 50-year-old patient operated on due to

A Primary Mesenteric Hydatid Cyst in an Adult Female Mimicking an Ovarian Cyst: The First Reported Case in Lebanon With Review of the Literature.

Hydatid cyst is a parasitic zoonosis caused by echinococcosis. Liver and lung are the two primarily affected organs. Primary mesenteric hydatid cyst is a rare event, and few cases have been reported globally. In this case report, we present the first documented case, to our knowledge, in Lebanon. The patient was a 49-year-old female who presented for acute worsening of a long-standing abdominal pain. The primary differential diagnosis was an ovarian cyst, for which urgent surgical excision was performed. Histopathological analysis showed a primary mesenteric hydatid cyst, thus providing the fi

Acute abdomen caused by an infected mesenteric cyst in the ascending colon: a case report.

Mesenteric cysts are rare intra-abdominal tumors. Mesenteric cysts are usually asymptomatic and are incidentally detected during physical or radiological examination. Although uncommon, complications such as infection, bleeding, torsion, rupture and intestinal obstruction cause an acute abdomen. Spontaneous infection is a very rare complication. We present a case of infected mesenteric cysts in the ascending colon, which caused an acute abdomen. A 26-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with acute abdominal pain. She had a painful mass in the right abdomen on physical examination. Abdom

Chylolymphatic mesenteric cyst: A rare differential diagnosis of cystic mass in abdomen: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Mesenteric cysts are the rare benign intraperitoneal tumor, which are common in the mesentery of the terminal ileum. Though mesenteric cysts are frequently seen, chylolymphatic mesenteric cysts in children are rare entities. CASE PRESENTATION: Our case is a case of a 3-year-old female child presenting to our center with a complain of abdominal pain. Ultrasonography (USG) of the abdomen revealed a cystic lesion in the right upper abdomen, and computed tomography (CT) scan showed a large homogenous fluid density lesion in the right upper abdomen, giving a provisional diagnosis of

Giant mesenteric cyst of mesothelial origin in a haemodialysis patient with previous peritoneal dialysis therapy.

A 55-year-old female haemodialysis patient presented progressive abdominal liquid formation after having been excluded from peritoneal dialysis therapy because of recurrent peritonitis. Ultrasound was suspicious for ascites secondary to sclerosing peritonitis. Computed tomography revealed a thin-walled mesenteric cyst extending from the epigastric to the pelvic region. The cyst was excised incompletely as extensive adhesions were present. Histology was consistent with a mesothelial cyst of inflammatory origin. Three months after surgery, ultrasound detected a local recurrence at the descending

Mesenteric Cyst with GI Symptoms: A Fluid Approach to Treatment-Case Report and Literature Review.

Mesenteric cysts are defined as a heterogeneous group of intra-abdominal cystic lesions of the mesentery or omentum that may be found in any portion of the gastrointestinal tract from the duodenum to the rectum. The clinical condition is entirely asymptomatic in many patients, particularly with small cysts. The diagnosis is typically incidental and secondary to imaging performed for other purposes. In symptomatic patients, the clinical picture is characterized by nonspecific gastrointestinal signs and symptoms. Treatment may be surgical or via interventional radiology. We report the case of a

Massive Abdominal Distension in a Five-Year-Old Child: Management of a Giant Mesenteric Cyst.

Mesenteric cyst is a rare entity with a very low incidence. The majority of the cases are incidental. Despite several theories, its etiology remains unknown. Some cases present with non-specific symptoms such as pain abdomen, swelling, and abdominal mass. It may rarely get complicated due to hemorrhage, torsion, or rupture of the cyst. Large mesenteric cysts are quite uncommon. However, these cysts seldom grow to produce clinical symptoms arising from compression of adjoining structures, such as vomiting, constipation due to intestinal obstruction, or dyspnoea due to compression of the diaphra

Giant Mesenteric Mixed Hemangioma Misdiagnosed as Ovarian Cyst: A Case Report and a Literature Review.

Hemangiomas are congenital vascular disorders that occur primarily in the face and neck, extremely rare in the mesentery. Here, we report a rare small mesenteric mixed hemangioma. A 34-year-old woman was admitted to the gynecology department for an extended menstrual cycle. A cystic multi-atrial mass at the right anterior of uterus was observed by ultrasound examination, which was about 12.5 × 9.5 × 14.9 cm in size. The gynecologist mostly considered the possibility of the ovarian cyst. However, there was a huge multi-atrial cyst in the small intestine mesentery without the right ovarian cyst

Idiopathic lymphatic mesenteric cyst of the proximal jejunum: A case report of an unusual clinical presentation.

INTRODUCTION: Mesenteric cysts are rare lesions of the abdominal cavity or retroperitoneum. The exact etiopathogenesis is still undefined. Clinical manifestation can vary from asymptomatic patients to symptoms of an acute abdomen, making diagnosis very challenging. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 47-year-old male with new ongoing polyuria and nocturia as well as episodes of slight abdominal pain. An abdominal ultrasound showed ascites and the computer tomography (CT) scan raised suspicion of an internal hernia. We performed a diagnostic laparoscopy and open resection of a cystic les

Hybrid sequential treatment of a giant serous mesenteric cyst: description of a case and review of the literature.

Mesenteric cysts are uncommon benign abdominal tumors that may extend from the root of the mesenteric layers of the gastrointestinal tract into the retroperitoneum or the peritoneal cavity; they are usually asymptomatic and often represent an occasional finding. Definitive diagnosis is confirmed by the surgical intraoperative view and by histopathological examination. Surgical excision of the cyst is the treatment of choice. We present a case of a female patient who presented with back pain and a palpable abdominal mass. Due to large size of the mass and its contiguity with midline, patient un

Mesenteric cysts, lymphatic leak, and cerebral cavernous malformation in a proband with KRIT1-related disease.

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) of the central nervous system arise sporadically or secondary to genomic variation. Established genetic etiologies include deleterious variants in KRIT1 (CCM1), malcavernin (CCM2), and PDCD10 (CCM3). KRIT1-related disease has not been described in conjunction with lymphatic defects, although lymphatic defects with abnormal endothelial cell junctions have been observed in mice deficient in HEG1-KRIT1 signaling. We report a proband with CCMs, multiple chylous mesenteric cysts, and chylous ascites with leaky lymphatic vasculature. Clinical short-read exome

[Acute abdomen due to rupture of mesenteric cysts. Observations on a clinical case and review of the literature].

Personal experience based on a clinical case of a young woman with acute abdominal pain referable to acute appendicitis is presented. The surgical procedure was performed through a Mc Burney incision and revealed the rupture of mesenteric cysts; removal of the cysts was carried out without intestinal resection. Post-operative course was uneventful and 2 years follow-up showed no recurrence. Mesenteric cysts are an uncommon pathology, mainly in adult ages. After an analysis of the incidence and etiology, the pathological features and types of clinical presentation are discussed. Diagnosis in as

Successful laparoscopic removal of mesenteric and omental cysts in toddlers: 3 cases with a literature review.

Mesenteric and omental cysts are rare benign intraabdominal anomalies with uncertain etiologies. Surgical removal is the preferred treatment owing to complications related to cyst enlargement. A 1-year-old boy with an intrauterine diagnosis of a cystic mass adjacent to his stomach and liver, a 3-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy with an incidental diagnosis of intraabdominal cysts were scheduled for laparoscopic surgery. The mass of the 1-year-old boy was a multiloculated cyst originating from the lesser omentum, the incidental mass in the girl was a multiseptated cyst located in the jejunoi

Mesenteric cyst presenting with acute abdomen pain and bowel obstruction: Case report and brief literature review.

Mesenteric cysts were first described in 1507 and since then remain as a rare intraabdominal pathology. The etiology of this kind of tumor is still unclear and the classification remains controversial. They are usually asymptomatic, but can also cause acute abdominal pain and sometimes need emergency surgical approach. Clinical history, physical exam and complementary tests do not always provide diagnosis, which in many cases is made after surgery. Surgical management with complete excision of the cyst is the gold standard treatment. Laparoscopy technique should be preferred whenever is possib
