In order to evaluate possible health effects of environmental exposure of humans towards methyl mercury species, relevant exposure experiments using methyl mercury chloride in aqueous solution and Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells were performed. Amphiphilic aryl radicals generated upon visible light irradiation of arylazo sulfones have been exploited in the development of a solventylation strategy via hydrogen atom transfer (HAT). The present protocol succeeded in the versatile functionalization of various olefins with carbon-centered radicals deriving from acetone, acetonitrile, chloroform, methylene chloride, nitromethane, methyl acetate, and methyl formate under metal- and photocatalyst-free conditions. The direct addition of the aryl radicals onto the olefin substrates was suppressed under high dilution conditions.

Single cell gel electrophoresis (or Comet Assay) was used for evaluation of the in vitro genotoxicity of hydrogen peroxide (used as a positive control), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (Aroclor 1254) and methyl mercury chloride, in isolated bottlenose dolphin leukocytes. Results showed that hydrogen peroxide and methyl mercury induced DNA strand breakage in a dose-dependent manner, while PCBs did not induce a clear dose-effect response at the low doses investigated. The reaction between copper(II) chloride dihydrate and the (E)-2-methyl-4-(quinolin-8-yldiazen-yl)benzene-1,3-diol ligand in aceto-nitrile leads to the formation of the title compound, [Cu(C16H12N3O2)Cl]·H2O. The ligand is deprotonated and coordinates with three donor atoms (tridentate) to the CuII ion. Individual mol-ecules of the CuII complex are connected by chloride bridges, forming a one-dimensional coordination polymer. No photoisomerization to the cis isomer of the azo ligand was observed upon irradiation with UV light.

The title compound, C42H48O6, was obtained via formyl-ation of 25,26,27,28-tetra-propoxycalix[4]arene with dichloro-methyl methyl ether and tin tetra-chloride. It adopts a pinched cone conformation, which leads to an open cavity. The two opposite aromatic rings bearing formyl groups are almost parallel, making a dihedral angle of 29.1 (2)°. The other pair of opposite rings are close to being perpendicular, making a dihedral angle of 73.6 (1)°. Adjacent rings are almost perpendicular, making dihedral angles of 78.8 (2), 81.6 (1), 78.2 (1) and 74.7 (1)°.

Three dinuclear coordination complexes generated from 1-n-butyl-2-((5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-yl)methyl)-1H-benzimidazole (L), have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically and structurally by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
