I describe two cases of iris prolapse after sutureless 5.1 mm clear corneal incision cataract surgery with implantation of a 5 mm poly(methyl methacrylate) lens. Casts of small intestinal blood vessels and lymphatics in the rabbit were made with methacrylate and observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). In casting the lymphatics, a specially diluted low viscosity medium was injected intraparenchymally into the intestinal submucosa. During operations on patients with extracardiac conduits, sternal reapproximation occasionally results in critical compression of the conduit and serious deterioration in hemodynamic function. We report a 17-year-old asymptomatic patient with a partially collapsed seventh cervical vertebra due to a haemangioma revealed by conventional radiographs performed for army enrollment. Given radiological evidence of aggressiveness, percutaneous vertebroplasty by injection of methyl methacrylate cement was performed to prevent complications. CT a year later showed no progression of the lesion. The patient remains asymptomatic.

I modified the corneoscleral incision for cataract surgery so the incision is located between the 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock positions and termed it the BENT incision (abbreviated from "between nine and twelve o'clock"). I made the incision on 110 patients for phacoemulsification and 6.0 mm diameter poly(methyl methacrylate) intraocular lens implantation and analyzed postoperative corneal astigmatism. A retrospective analysis of 40 cases of sulcus-fixated one-piece poly(methyl methacrylate) posterior chamber lenses revealed ten cases (25%) that demonstrated oval deformation of the pupil, similar to the condition associated with anterior chamber lenses. This complication was not noted until several weeks after surgery, appears to be progressive, and might be the cause of glare symptoms.
