Ossification in 4-week-old nu/nu and nu/+ BALB/c and BFU mice was studied by X-ray analysis and by measurement of the thickness of the proximal tibial growth cartilage using CUE 4 Olympus computer image analysis. Congenitally athymic (nu/nu) mice and their thymus-bearing (+/nu) littermates were used to study the effect of a tapeworm, Hymenolepis diminuta, infection, particularly the worm kinetics and histopathology of the small intestine. Groups of nu/nu and +/nu mice were infected once with 5 cysticercoids and examined for 20 days post infection. OBJECTIVES: To study the effect of cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (CDDP) on FADU squamous cell carcinoma cells in a nude mouse model and to determine the effect of sodium thiosulphate (STS) on CDDP activity.
METHODS: CD1 nude mice were inoculated with FADU tumour cells to both flanks. They were then randomized to four treatment groups: control, CDDP only, STS only, or CDDP and STS. Tumour growth was measured using calipers and charted at 3-day intervals.

A cell line, IGROV1, originating from an ovarian carcinoma of a 47-year-old woman was established in tissue culture and in nude mice. The Edmonston strain of measles virus caused neurologic disease in athymic nude mice by intracerebral inoculation. The incubation periods of the disease, however, were extremely long, ranging from 59 to 140 days when the mice were inoculated with 10(4) plaque forming units (PFU) of the virus.
