Airway mucins are the major molecular constituents of mucus. Mucus forms the first barrier to invading organisms in the airways and is an important defense mechanism of the lung. We confirm that mucin concentrations are significantly decreased in airway secretions of subjects with cystic fibrosis (CF) who have chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. MUC7 is a low molecular weight monomeric mucin secreted by submandibular, sublingual and minor salivary glands. PURPOSE: Combined inhibition of lymphocyte-activation gene 3 (LAG-3) and PD-1 improves outcomes in patients with melanoma. Increased LAG-3 expression in colorectal cancer correlates with reduced survival. Higher mucin and PD-L1 expression in the mismatch repair-proficient (pMMR) colorectal cancer tumor microenvironment was associated with increased LAG-3 and retrospectively with prolonged progression-free survival upon PD-1 blockade.
