Musculoskeletal injuries and pain in dancers: a systematic review update.

The objective of this study was to assemble and synthesize the best available literature from 2004 to 2008 on musculoskeletal injury and pain in dancers. MEDLINE and CINAHL were the primary sources of data. Indexed terms such as dance, dancer, dancing, athletic injuries, occupational injuries, sprains and strains, musculoskeletal diseases, bone density, menstruation disturbances, and eating disorders were used to search the databases. Citations were screened for relevance using a priori criteria, and relevant studies were critically reviewed for scientific merit by the best-evidence synthesis

Cervical contribution in musculoskeletal shoulder pain. A review of the literature.

Shoulder pain is the third most common cause of musculoskeletal pain and the primary cause of non-traumatic pain in the upper limb. Accurately diagnosing this condition remains a challenge for clinicians due to the lack of consistency and uniformity in the existing diagnostic labelling and the criteria used. In this regard, current scientific evidence does not consistently support pathoanatomical models, as imaging tests and orthopaedic examinations might not provide relevant information for diagnosing shoulder pain. Therefore, it may be necessary to carry out subclassification-based diagnosis

Psychological Treatment in the Management of Pain following Musculoskeletal Injury.

Musculoskeletal injuries are a leading cause of pain and disability, with many patients developing chronic pain. While traditional management focuses on physical treatments, psychological interventions have emerged as a complementary approach. This study examines the role of psychological treatments in pain management after musculoskeletal injury, their efficacy, and their integration with existing treatment strategies. A review of literature, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses, was conducted to assess the effectiveness of psychological treatments such as cognitive-behavioral thera

Neck and Musculoskeletal Pain Among Dentists: A Review of the Literature.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD), notably neck pain, are important occupational health issues in the field of dentistry. Many studies were done worldwide to gather data about neck and back pain. They used different characteristics and risk factors. Other studies aimed to determine only the prevalence of neck and back problems among dentists. We aim to review the literature for research about the optimal factors to be assessed and the proper measures to be installed by dentists to prevent cervical pain and to be taught and shared with dental students. Such an aim requires a thorough review of th

COVID-19 and musculoskeletal pain: an overview of the current knowledge.

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has provoked billions of infections worldwide. Several meta-analyses have observed that up to 50% of individuals who had survived to a SARS-CoV-2 acute infection suffer from post-COVID symptoms lasting for weeks or months and up to one year after infection. The prevalence of post-COVID pain ranges between 10% to 20% when assessed with other overall post-COVID symptoms and can reach up to 50% to 60% when investigated specifically. The most common musculoskeletal manifestations of post-

Management of chronic musculoskeletal pain in veterans: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: Veterans are military with health problems due to military conditions. The improved body armor and operational conditions has reduced the number of deaths, but increased the number of veterans with severe injuries, affected by musculoskeletal pain and associated syndromes, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Multimodal approaches are considered in USA the gold standard for the treatment of these problems, while in Europe and Italy the data are unknown. The aim of this review was to describe and summarize multimodal therapeutic approaches that apply to the ve

A Review of Musculoskeletal Embolization to Treat Pain Outside of the Knee.

Chronic inflammation leading to musculoskeletal pain has garnered interest in the past decade with the success of genicular artery embolization for knee pain secondary to osteoarthritis. Outside the knee joint, musculoskeletal embolization has been applied to other anatomical locations, mainly shoulder pain secondary to adhesive capsulitis and elbow pain secondary to lateral epicondylitis. The success of these early trials and other case reports highlights the efficacy of musculoskeletal embolization and its future potential.

Aromatase inhibitors and musculoskeletal pain in patients with breast cancer.

Aromatase inhibitors are recommended for use by postmenopausal women who have estrogen receptor-positive early-stage breast cancer. They reduce local and distant recurrence more effectively than tamoxifen. Anastrozole (Arimidex, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP), letrozole (Femara, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation), and exemestane (Aromasin, Pfizer Inc.) inhibit aromatase activity, thus significantly decreasing estrogen production in tissues such as liver, muscle, and fat. Very low levels of estrogen may be one cause of musculoskeletal pain, a common side effect associated with the drugs. In
