Exploring user acceptance of online virtual reality exhibition technologies: A case study of Liangzhu Museum.

Museums increasingly rely on cutting-edge digital technologies to attract visitors. Understanding the intricate factors influencing user acceptance of these technologies is, however, crucial for their effective use. This study therefore proposes a model, grounded in the technology acceptance model, to investigate user acceptance of online virtual reality (VR) museum exhibitions. Leveraging the online VR exhibition at Liangzhu Museum as a case study, data were collected from 313 participants and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with Smart PLS. The Origins of Coca: Museum Genomics Reveals Multiple Independent Domestications from Progenitor Erythroxylum gracilipes.

Coca is the natural source of cocaine as well as a sacred and medicinal plant farmed by South American Amerindians and mestizos. The coca crop comprises four closely related varieties classified into two species (Amazonian and Huánuco varieties within Erythroxylum coca Lam., and Colombian and Trujillo varieties within Erythroxylum novogranatense (D. Morris) Hieron.) but our understanding of the domestication and evolutionary history of these taxa is nominal. In this study, we use genomic data from natural history collections to estimate the geographic origins and genetic diversity of this econ

The Fostering Resilience through Art in Medical Education (FRAME) workshop: a partnership with the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Background: Provider burnout remains a serious problem facing medical training programs and has been shown to affect more than half of internal medicine residents. In addition to broader efforts to revamp a health care system that contributes to this epidemic, exposure to the medical humanities offers potential to promote engagement, resilience, and restoration of meaning in residents' daily lives. Objective: We aim to create a reproducible, evidence-based workshop utilizing artful thinking routines to prepare trainees to combat burnout with reflection, perspective-taking, and community-buildi

Cultural engagement and cognitive reserve: museum attendance and dementia incidence over a 10-year period.

Theories of cognitive reserve, disuse syndrome and stress have suggested that activities that are mentally engaging, enjoyable and socially interactive could be protective against the development of dementia. Using data from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, this study shows that for adults aged 50 and older visiting museums every few months or more was associated with a lower incidence rate of dementia over a 10-year follow-up period compared with less-frequent visiting. This association was independent of demographics, socioeconomic status, health-related variables including sensory

Reappraisal of the specific status of Rhabdias (Nematoda: Rhabdiasoidea) from Malagasy chameleons in the Paris museum collection.

To date Rhabdias gemellipara is the only species described from Malagasy chameleons, but heterogeneity of the material had been suspected. 11 samples of Rhabdias parasites present in the Paris Natural History Museum collection were examined. The size and shape of the buccal capsule, shape and length of the oesophagus, shape of the apical region of the intestine, extent of the genital tract and structure of the cuticular vesicle led to the distinction of five species. Rhabdias rabetafikae n. sp. parasitises Columma cucullatum in the northeastern region (Cap Machoual). In the eastern region, R.

["Acute human glanders". Contribution for the scientific history of the Museum of pathological anatomy established in Trieste Hospital].

The Museum of Pathological Anatomy of the Regina Elena City Hospital of Trieste houses various pathological preparations of infective and contagious diseases, dating back to the early 1900's (ileo-typhus, dysentery, tuberculosis, syphillis, pulmonary plague, etc.) together with their relative diagnostic certificates. These bear witness to the key role of the Hospital's Anatomical Institute (in operation operating since 1872) during the height of the Pasteurian age. In fact, the Institute houses several anatomical-pathological preparations from a fatal clinical case of "acute human glanders". T

Case studies in pathology from the National Museum of Health and Medicine, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.

The National Museum of Health and Medicine was founded as the Army Medical Museum during the American Civil War to document the effects of war wounds and disease on the human body. Since then, the Museum has created a collection of documented pathologic specimens that can be used to study the gross and microscopic appearance of disease conditions. The Museum's collections are a vital link to the past and the future of medical research and form a unique national medical repository that is used continuously for research, education, and exhibit purposes. Today, the Museum in association with its

From fandom to inquiry: what game studies reveals about biology learning at the Pokémon Fossil Museum.

Popular culture is increasingly used in biology education, but its value is often explained primarily through a narrow account of engagement: learners recognize a reference, enjoy the activity, and participate more readily. This Perspective argues that game studies offer biology education research (BER) a vocabulary for examining the deeper mechanisms that can make such engagement educationally meaningful, including fan expertise, fictional world knowledge, affect, and identity. I use the Pokémon Fossil Museum at Chicago's Field Museum as a generative case, informed by a reflective visit rathe

The Impact of Digital Storytelling on Presence, Immersion, Enjoyment, and Continued Usage Intention in VR-Based Museum Exhibitions.

Recent advancements in virtual reality (VR) technology have introduced a new paradigm in exhibition culture, with digital storytelling emerging as a crucial component supporting this transformation. Particularly in virtual exhibitions, digital storytelling serves as a key medium for enhancing user experience and maximizing immersion, thereby fostering continuous usage intention. However, systematic research on the structural influence of VR-based digital storytelling on user experience remains insufficient. To address this research gap, this study examines the impact of key components of digit

A 20th century case of noma infection following typhoid fever from the Morgagni Museum (Padua, Italy).

Noma is a potentially fatal, gangrenous disease that leads to tissue destruction in the face. It has been proven to develop mostly in children living in extreme poverty. There is a lack of data regarding microbiological analysis of the ulcers, making the knowledge of the bacteria involved and its etiology still unclear. Within this framework, pathological specimens from museological collections could offer relevant improvements for the comprehension of etiology of noma. The Morgagni Museum of Human Anatomy in Padua hosts a unique case of noma dating back to 1902, and two related specimens, a m

Skeleton bones in museum indoor environments offer niches for fungi and are affected by weathering and deposition of secondary minerals.

Large skeleton specimens are often featured as iconic open displays in Natural History Museums, for example, the blue whale 'Hope' at the Natural History Museum, London. A study on Hope's bone surface was performed to assess the biodeterioration potential of fungi. Fungi were isolated, and a fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) clone library survey was performed on dust and bone material. Mineral particles derived from bone and dust were analysed using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, variable pressure scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high vacuum SEM. Results showed that bone ma

Reconstructing avian mercury concentrations through time using museum specimens from New York State.

We examined how variation in MeHg concentrations through time is reflected in birds, a taxon commonly used as a biological indicator of ecosystem health. Using museum specimens collected from 1880 to 2016, we measured feather MeHg concentrations in six species of birds that breed in New York State and have distinct dietary and habitat preferences. We predicted that MeHg concentrations in feathers would mirror Hg emission patterns in New York State and increase through time until 1980 then decrease thereafter in response to increased regulation of anthropogenic Hg emissions. We found that MeHg

[History of injections. Pictures from the history of otorhinolaryngology highlighted by exhibits of the German History of Medicine Museum in Ingolstadt].

BACKGROUND: Injections are part of the arsenal of all medical disciplines. In addition to this common ground, each specialty has its own particular aspects; the historical development of these are presented here with respect to otorhinolaryngology. INTRAVENOUS INJECTIONS: The first experiments with intravenous injections were carried out in 1642 by a gentleman's hunting servant in eastern Germany. Similar experiments were done in 1656 by Christopher Wren, the astronomer, mathematician, and architect in Oxford, England, and a group of scientists around the physicist Robert Boyle. These experim

Protocol for low-cost photographic digitization and automated HTML publication of envelope-preserved entomological museum collections.

Here, we present a protocol for digitizing envelope-preserved entomological museum specimens. We describe steps for acquiring images, transcribing labels into Darwin Core records, and validating taxonomy and geography. We then detail procedures for linking images to metadata and automatically generating searchable specimen and taxon HTML pages for open-access publication. We demonstrate the workflow using Odonata specimens from the Zoological Museum of Sapienza University of Rome. For complete details, please refer to Tamagnini et al.1.

Novel 20th century rotavirus alphagastroenteritidis strains identified in formalin-fixed and ethanol-preserved museum specimens.

Archival specimens held in biorepositories (e.g. natural history collections) offer rare temporal snapshots of global biodiversity. These collections not only preserve species morphology and aspects of ecology, but increasingly provide access to historical molecular data, including insights into wildlife disease. As several pandemics have originated from animal viruses spilling over into the human population (i.e. SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19, 2009 H1N1 influenza, and HIV/AIDS), characterizing the diversity of viruses circulating in wildlife populations is essential for proactive pandemic preparedness.
