Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Music Therapy for Concussion: A Case Report.

Effective treatments for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) are limited and are insufficient to address patient symptoms and recovery. We report a case of an mTBI patient with debilitating visual symptoms who experienced profound symptom relief and increased functional capacity after music therapy (MT) (passive listening to specific music pieces). After other mTBI patients reported similar benefits, we conducted a functional magnetic resonance imaging study using visual paradigms to quantitatively measure the effects of this MT. MT reduced symptoms and increased visual cortex activation in the

Mapping family involvement in music therapy for children and adolescents with cancer: a scoping review.

Children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment, along with their families, experience psychological and emotional distress. Music therapy is increasingly acknowledged as an intervention that may foster emotion regulation, coping, and communication; however, family involvement remains insufficiently delineated. This scoping review maps evidence on family involvement in music therapy for paediatric oncology, characterises the forms and intensity of participation, summarises intervention features and reported outcomes, and identifies limitations and research gaps. Following PRISMA-ScR guide

A semi-standardized music therapy intervention for girls with Rett syndrome: A descriptive essay.

Rett syndrome (RTT) is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder resulting in a wide range of functional impairments and therefore greatly impacts the lives of both patients and their families. While genetic and medical aspects have been studied for several decades, rehabilitation intervention research is still in its infancy. In this study, the investigating researchers have presented a rehabilitative framework by using music therapy for girls with RTT. This model is founded upon the use of music therapy in light of Stern's proposal of subjective experience and affect attunement; it also refers to

Use of Music Therapy as an Audiological Rehabilitation Tool in the Elderly Population: A Mini-Review.

It is well known and documented that sensory perception decreases with age. In the elderly population, hearing loss and reduced vestibular function are among the most prevalently affected senses. Two important side effects of sensory deprivation are cognitive decline and decrease in social participation. Hearing loss, vestibular function impairment, and cognitive decline all lead to a decrease in social participation. Altogether, these problems have a great impact on the quality of life of the elderly. This is why a rehabilitation program covering all of these aspects would therefore be useful

Cortical reorganization in recent-onset tinnitus patients by the Heidelberg Model of Music Therapy.

Pathophysiology and treatment of tinnitus still are fields of intensive research. The neuroscientifically motivated Heidelberg Model of Music Therapy, previously developed by the German Center for Music Therapy Research, Heidelberg, Germany, was applied to explore its effects on individual distress and on brain structures. This therapy is a compact and fast application of nine consecutive 50-min sessions of individualized therapy implemented over 1 week. Clinical improvement and long-term effects over several years have previously been published. However, the underlying neural basis of the the
