Tumor-to-Tumor Metastasis: Lung Adenocarcinoma as a Recipient of Metastasis from Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND The occurrence of metastasis from one neoplasm to another is known as tumor-to-tumor metastasis (TTM). It is a rare phenomenon in the natural history of any neoplasm, with approximately 100 cases reported in the literature to date. The lungs are the most frequent metastatic tumor donors and kidney cancer is the most common recipient. However, the opposite phenomenon (lung adenocarcinoma as a recipient of metastasis from renal carcinoma) has not been previously reported in the literature. CASE REPORT We present the case of a man with a history of multiple neoplasms. He had a diffuse

Neoplasms of the hard palate.

PURPOSE: Although the most common neoplastic lesion of the oral cavity is squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), primary neoplastic lesions of the hard palate have not been systematically reviewed to date. The aim of this study was to determine the histopathologic composition and characteristics of neoplasms of the hard palate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 66 patients with a primary neoplasm of the hard palate managed at the authors' institution from 1985 through 2012 was performed. Demographic features, malignancy rate, histopathologic characteristics and distribution, TNM stag

[The endobronchial metastases of a prostatic neoplasm with normal radiology].

Prostatic cancer is the most frequent neoplasm in man, usually it is revealed in the course of study of unknown origin bone metastasis. Pulmonary involvement is normally detected through clinical symptoms or an chest X-ray altered showing intraparenchymatous nodules or a carcinomatous lymphangitis pattern. We present a case of a patient with prostatic cancer and bone metastasis in whom during the extension study we detected endobronchial metastasis. Endobronchial involvement is exceptional in prostatic cancer; through bibliographical review we have only found 12 similar cases published.

Metastatic melanoma of the gallbladder presenting as polyp in acute cholecystitis.

Malignant melanoma is an aggressive neural crest cell-derived neoplasm with a propensity for metastasis to almost any organ. Gastrointestinal metastasis may manifest as gallbladder polyps. We report a case of metastatic malignant melanoma diagnosed in an 81-year-old male after cholecystectomy performed for acute cholecystitis. Cholecystectomy remains the standard of care for treatment of isolated gallbladder metastasis, especially in the setting of symptomatic disease. Mutation-directed chemotherapeutic and immunotherapeutic modalities serve as efficacious adjunctive therapy in addition to pri

Renal adenocarcinoma with solitary metastasis to the contralateral adrenal gland: report of 2 cases and review of the literature.

We report 2 rare cases of renal adenocarcinoma with solitary metastasis to the contralateral adrenal gland, 1 recognized synchronously with the primary neoplasm and 1 found 15 years after nephrectomy. The latter case represents the longest reported interval between nephrectomy and treatment of a solitary contralateral adrenal metastasis of renal adenocarcinoma. Distinction of these metastatic tumors from primary adrenocortical carcinoma was facilitated by immunohistochemical markers. Twelve other reported cases of renal adenocarcinoma with solitary contralateral adrenal metastasis support aggr

Metastatic rectal cancer to papillary thyroid carcinoma: a case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a rare event. Rectal cancer to primary thyroid neoplasm metastasis is extremely rare. Herein, we reported a case of metastatic rectal adenocarcinoma to a papillary thyroid carcinoma. The incidence and clinicopathological characteristics of metastatic colorectal cancer to a thyroid gland neoplasm were described, and the pertinent literature was reviewed. CASE PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old female patient had curative treatment of initial rectal adenocarcinoma in 2012, and was found to have lung metastases by follow-up CT scan 3 years later. In 2018, she wa

Epidermotropic metastatic mucoepidermoid carcinoma.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC), an invasive malignant neoplasm composed of mucus-secreting, epidermoid, and intermediate cells in varying proportions, is the commonest malignant salivary gland neoplasm in adults. Cutaneous metastases from the same, although not entirely common, has been previously reported but are typically confined to dermis. In this report, we present a case of MEC presenting as a cutaneous metastasis. A histologic feature unique to this case was epidermotropism, previously not noted in either metastatic or primary MEC.

Histiocytoid eccrine sweat gland carcinoma of the eyelid: report of a case.

This report describes the 12th documented case of histiocytoid, diffuse or signet-ring cell eccrine sweat gland carcinoma of the eyelid, a rare neoplasm that characteristically affects older men and mimics distant metastasis. Clinically, the patient was thought to have a colonic metastasis. Histologically, the neoplasm comprised sheets and cords of polygonal, eosinophilic cells, with dispersed larger, rounded single cells resembling histiocytes, and cells with cytoplasmic lumina or a signet-ring appearance. Occasional duct formation was also seen. The features were reminiscent of both the hist

Low-grade Mucinous Appendiceal Neoplasm: a Tumor in Disguise of Appendicitis.

Appendiceal mucinous neoplasms are a rare malignancy, but it is an important diagnostic entity. Ultrasonography and CT scan represent useful method for diagnosis; however, diagnosis is often incidental or intraoperative finding at resection for suspicion of appendicitis. Appendiceal mucinous neoplasm is commonly misdiagnosed as acute appendicitis, adnexal mass, or retroperitoneal tumors. Our case represents the importance of developing a high index of suspicion of appendiceal malignancy and mucocele rupture in patients who are planned for appendectomy. There is risk of second malignancy mostly

Periductal elastic tissue of breast cancer. Quantitative histologic study.

Using techniques of stereology, we estimated the relative volume of periductal elastic tissue in 60 infiltrating ductal carcinomas of the breast. Volume density of periductal elastic tissue in the neoplasm correlated with our own subjective histologic estimates of the amount of elastic tissue. Periductal elastic tissue had a significantly higher volume density in the neoplasm than in nonneoplastic breast, but the two estimates did not correlate with each other. Similarly, the volume density of elastic tissue in the neoplasm did not correlate with that of neoplastic cells or of stromal collagen

Primary Testicular Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma With Bilateral Adrenal Metastasis: A Rare Presentation.

Primary testicular lymphoma is the common testicular neoplasm in patients aged more than 65 years. It accounts for a small number of cases of adult testicular malignancies. Though the metastasis to bone marrow, liver, and central nervous system are well known, metastasis to adrenal glands is a very rare entity. It can be mistaken as a germ cell tumor or a dual malignancy. To rule out other causes, a multidisciplinary approach is required. Here, we present a rare case of primary testicular Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with bilateral adrenal metastasis.

Herein, we presented a case of pulmonary adenocarcinoma six months after thoracoscopic Lobectomy isolated metastasis to sigmoid colon. Then the patient underwent radical resection of metastatic tumors of sigmoid colon. The pathologic morphology and immunohistochemistry of lung adenocarcinoma is highly consistent with the sigmoid colon tumor and their gene profiles are likely similar expect for an AXIN1 mutation in primary tumor and no

Metastasis of cancer to cancer. A case of breast carcinoma metastasizing to a malignant mesothelioma.

Metastasis of cancer to cancer is exceedingly rare, the most frequent being metastasis from bronchogenic carcinoma to renal carcinoma. A case of breast carcinoma metastasizing to a fibrosarcomatous malignant mesothelioma is presented. Breast carcinoma metastasizing to another carcinoma has been reported 4 times in the past. To our knowledge no case of breast carcinoma metastasizing to a malignant mesenchymal tumor has been published. It is unknown whether metastasis of cancer to cancer is a random occurrence or is due to selective lodging, survival and growth within another malignant neoplasm.

Extrarenal Wilms' tumor with cerebellar metastasis in a four-year-old girl with spina bifida.

This report documents the occurrence of an extrarenal nephroblastoma from which a cerebellar metastasis developed in a four-year-old girl with spina bifida. The second tumor became symptomatic two years after the resection of the primary, suggesting a treatment effect as a factor for the delay in the growing of the metastatic neoplasm. Histologic and ultrastructural features of the metastasis were similar to those described in Wilms' tumors of the kidney. The pathogenesis of this exceptional association, including malformation, malignancy, and unusual site of metastasis, is discussed.

Neoplasms arising at the CIED pocket: a hybrid study combining a case report, scoping review, and clinical survey.

Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation is a minor surgical procedure, with a low complication incidence. Neoplasm occurrence at the CIED pocket is a rare event, and sporadic cases are reported without a comprehensive evaluation. This hybrid study aims to fill this gap through a three-part approach: a new case report, a scoping review with individual patient data (IPD) analysis, and a clinical survey. In March 2024, a male patient with a history of high-grade urothelial cancer referred to our Department with a mass at the CIED pocket. Incisional biopsy confirmed the diagnosis

Primary ovarian neuroendocrine neoplasia with concurrent large epithelial borderline ovarian tumor, coexistent with non-malignant pleural effusion and multiple uterine fibroids: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Neuroendocrine neoplasms are a group of neoplasms often originating from the neuroendocrine cells in the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and respiratory tract. Neuroendocrine neoplasms rarely occur in female reproductive organs and less than a hundred cases of ovarian high-grade lesions have been reported in the literature so far. Fewer still are cases reported in the literature associated with a borderline epithelial tumor in the same ovary. Owing to the rarity of the condition, there is a lack of specific guidelines for staging, and optimal management of these tumors. CASE PRE

Inclusions of benign nevus cells in the capsule of axillary lymph nodes in three cases of breast cancer.

Three cases of breast carcinoma are reported in which the capsule of an axillary lymph node contained inclusions of benign-appearing nevus cells. The lesions were exclusively limited to the lymph node capsule without involvement of peripheric sinus or parenchyma. In one case, another lymph node presented a metastasis histologically identical to the primary neoplasm. The differential diagnosis with the carcinomatous metastasis and the possible origin of these inclusions are discussed.

Intrameningioma metastasis: A case-based literature review.

A tumor-to-tumor metastasis inside a meningioma is a rare phenomenon. Malignant neoplasms of the breast and lung are the most common primary tumors. Other sites of origin include prostate, renal and gastric neoplasms. The included case files were retrieved from the medical records of the University Hospital of Crete, Greece. A review of the literature was conducted in March 2020 via PubMed. Relevant search results were few. We report a case of a 66-year-old female, with known Small Cell Lung Cancer, who presented with left-sided hemiparesis. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan revealed a right

Prognostic factors for pleomorphic dermal sarcoma, a rare undifferentiated neoplasm of the skin, are poorly defined, and typical staging systems do not appear to be appropriate for these neoplasms. We; therefore, sought to identify prognostic factors for disease-specific survival and predictors of metastasis.Pleomorphic dermal sarcomas were identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database (N=1911).
