Palatal Congenital Melanocytic Nevus With Unusual Clinical Feature: A Rare Case Report With Literature Review.

Congenital melanocytic nevi are uncommon benign lesions that primarily involve the skin and are exceedingly rare within the oral cavity, where their atypical presentation may pose a diagnostic challenge due to clinical overlap with other pigmented lesions. We report a case of an intramucosal palatal congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN) in a 34-year-old woman who presented with a painless nodular lesion arising from a lifelong pigmented area of the palate. Histopathological examination demonstrated a benign proliferation of nevus cells with theques formation. The deepest nevus cells showed proxim

Pigmented epithelioid melanocytoid tumor of the ocular adnexa.

An 8-year-old girl with a history of microphthalmia in the right eye presented with a left medial upper eyelid mass with a dark blue-green nodule that could be seen through the skin but did not appear to involve the overlying epidermis. A biopsy demonstrated a pigmented epithelioid melanocytoid tumor with rare mitoses arising in association with a congenital nevus and positive margins. Due to the pathological findings, the patient underwent excision of the tumor with 5-mm margins and a sentinel lymph node biopsy. The re-excision of the upper eyelid margins demonstrated residual benign congenit

Clinically distinct form of acquired dermal melanocytosis with review of published work.

Dermal melanocytosis is most commonly found in the skin of Asians and other darkly pigmented people. It is histologically characterized by the presence of dermal melanocytes, with or without presence of dermal melanophages. Mongolian spot, nevus of Ito, nevus of Ota, nevus of Hori, and blue nevus are most common and represent distinct types of dermal melanocytosis. Other clinical patterns of acquired dermal melanocytosis have also been described. Herein, we report a unique case of acquired dermal melanocytosis diffusely affecting the entire back of a 50-year old African-American male and also

Congenital Dermal Melanocytosis on the Foot: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Dermal melanocytosis is a common pigmented skin disease, characterized by an increased number of ectopic melanocytes in the dermis. Rare variants of dermal melanocytosis that do not belong to these four typical groups-nevus of Ota, nevus of Ito, blue nevus, and Mongolian spots-are called dermal melanocyte hamartoma, or congenital dermal melanocytosis (CDM) as it mostly appears from birth. We report a case of CDM on the foot of a young woman with a literature review of previously reported cases of CDM.

Surgical management of a conjunctival nevus with amniotic membrane transplantation.

PURPOSE: Nevi of the conjunctiva are usually benign pigmented tumorous lesions located in the bulbar conjunctiva. In most conjunctival nevus cases, the patient wants the lesion to be removed for cosmetic reasons, but excisional biopsies are best for lesions suspicious for malignancy. This case report illustrates the intraoperative surgical management, histological findings, and the course of healing in a conjunctival nevus patient. CASE REPORT: A 26-year-old man was referred to our eye hospital with a large bulbar conjunctival nevus of the right eye. Upon examination, there was a large pigmen

Hypopigmented common blue nevus.

Blue nevus is a benign pigmented lesion of dermal melanocytes with a number of histologic and clinical variants, of which the major types are the common blue nevus, cellular blue nevus and combined nevus. This study describes 9 cases of hypopigmented blue nevus (HBN), a variant of common blue nevus in which there is minimal identifiable melanin pigment. We also discuss the usefulness of the immunoperoxidase stain HMB-45 in relation to the diagnosis of HBN and the lesions with which it may be histologically confused, namely common intradermal nevus, dermatofibroma, neurofibroma, dermal scar and

Agminated Halo Nevus: A Novel Presentation.

Halo nevus is a benign type of melanocytic nevi commonly found in children and manifests as a central pigmented part surrounded by a well-defined hypopigmented area. Halo nevi are commonly located on the trunk. The central nevus may show partial or complete regression, whereas the associated halo may persist or enlarge. The term 'agminated nevus' refers to a cluster of melanocytic nevi restricted to an area of the body and commonly reported with acquired melanocytic nevi, blue nevi, and Spitz nevi. To the best of our knowledge, agminated halo nevus has not been previously described. We hereby

Dermal melanocytosis of the scalp associated to intracranial melanoma: malignant blue nevus, neurocutaneous melanosis, or neurocristic cutaneous hamartoma?

Intracranial invasion of cellular blue nevus is extremely rare, and its malignant transformation is even less common. The differential diagnosis includes neurocutaneous melanosis and neurocristic cutaneous hamartoma. A 50-year-old female presented with intracranial melanoma in contiguity with a congenital blue nevus on the scalp. The patient showed a wide pigmented lesion on the scalp that had grown in the last few years over the congenital blue nevus. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an intracranial tumor lying contiguous to the nevus. Despite aggressive surgery, the tumor relapsed and the

Role of amniotic membrane and full-thickness skin graft in reconstruction of kissing nevus of eyelids.

A 20-year-old girl presented with a large pigmented lesion over the temporal aspect of left lateral canthus involving the lateral one-third of both eyelids, since birth. A slow increase in its size had been noticed for the past 2 years. On examination, a hairy nevus measuring 34 mm × 22 mm was noticed involving left eyelid skin, the mucocutaneous junction (MCJ), palpebral conjunctiva, and lateral canthus. The surface was irregularly thick and covered with long, thick, and pigmented hairs. A clinical diagnosis of kissing nevus of eyelids was kept and a surgical resection with reconstruction pla

Desmoplastic nevus: An entity distinct from spitz nevus and blue nevus.

Desmoplastic (sclerotic) nevus is an infrequently reported poorly characterized benign melanocytic proliferation, with only 4 case series published to date. To better define this nevus, we examined the clinical and histologic features of 25 lesions. Desmoplastic nevus is seen in both children and adults and can be located on the face, trunk, or extremities. There is a female predominance. Clinically, it can resemble intradermal nevus, atypical nevus, melanoma, and pigmented basal cell carcinoma. These are generally small, symmetric, and well-circumscribed lesions, averaging 3.5 mm in diameter.

Becker's nevus with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is an autosomal dominant disorder which primarily affects the growth and development of neural cell tissues. It presents as multiple tumor-like growths over the skin that arises from the nerves and is associated with other abnormalities like pigmentation over the skin and bone deformities. Becker's nevus or hairy pigmented epidermal nevus is a benign cutaneous hamartoma which is characterized by hyperpigmented macule with hypertrichosis. It is rarely associated with neurofibromatosis. We report a 22-years-old male with coexistent Becker's nevus and type 1 neurofibromat

[Diagnosis and treatment of divided nevus of the penis in children: A case report and literature review].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the diagnosis and treatment of divided nevus of the penis (DNP) in children. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on a case of DNP treated by surgical resection and transplantation of free skin graft of the inner preputial plate, and searched PubMed, CNKI and Wanfang database prior to March 2021 for relevant literature, followed by analysis of the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of DNP. RESULTS: The free skin graft on the left side of the glans survived well. Postoperative pathology showed the DNP to be a complex pigmented nevus. The

Treatment of halo nevus with a 308-nm excimer laser: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of halo nevus is controversial and ranges from observation requiring no therapy to excision biopsy. OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of excimer laser for the treatment of halo nevus. METHODS: Four patients with halo nevus on the face were treated by excimer laser three times a week until they achieved 75% pigmentation or a maximum of 36 treatment sessions. They were assessed visually by comparing photographs taken before and at the end of treatment. RESULTS: Two patients re-pigmented completely and two showed 80% pigmentation. The number of sessions ranged from se

Epidermolysis bullosa nevus arising in a patient with Dowling-Meara type epidermolysis bullosa simplex with a novel K5 mutation.

We report herein a 4-year-old girl with Dowling-Meara type epidermolysis bullosa (EB) who presented with peculiar pigmented nevi. Blister formation had repeatedly occurred on the erythematous plaques in a circinate fashion since birth, and marked hyperkeratosis was observed on the palms and soles associated with nail deformity. Her mother and maternal grandmother also had similar symptoms. In addition to the blistering lesions, the patient had three large, asymmetrical, pigmented plaques with color variegation. Light and electron microscopic findings of the blistering lesions showed a subepide

Congenital smooth muscle hamartoma: the importance of differentiation from melanocytic nevi.

Congenital smooth muscle hamartoma (CSMH) is a rare cutaneous lesion commonly seen on the trunk or extremities as a localized skin-colored or mildly hyperpigmented and irregularly shaped patch or plaque with prominent vellus hairs. Histologically, CSMH is characterized by the proliferation of intersecting bundles of smooth muscle. The clinical differential diagnosis of CSMH includes congenital melanocytic (pigmented) nevus, Becker's melanosis, solitary mastocytoma, piloleiomyoma, café-au-lait spots, and nevus pilosus. Differentiating CSMH from a congenital melanocytic nevus avoids the unnecess

Hypertrichosis in Becker's nevus: effective low-fluence laser hair removal.

Becker's nevus is cosmetically bothersome both due to the hyperpigmentation and due to the hypertrichosis which can accompany it, particularly in males. Laser hair removal can be considered, but the pigmented background of the Becker's nevus makes the treatment more challenging. Fifteen patients with Becker's nevus underwent eight sessions of hair removal with low-fluence high-repetition-rate diode lasers (808-810 nm). All participants experienced significant hair reduction at 6 and 12 months. No adverse events were reported. The study supports the use of low fluence with high-repetition-rate

Periocular vitiligo with onset around a congenital divided nevus of the eyelid.

Leukoderma in association with congenital melanocytic nevi is a rare phenomenon; nevertheless several reports have been published in the literature. We present a 15-year-old boy born with a pigmented lesion on the lower and upper eyelid diagnosed as a congenital divided nevus of the eyelid. At the age of 13, he developed a depigmented area around the nevus and was diagnosed at first as having a halo nevus in a congenital nevus. Over the next two years, an area of depigmentation appeared around the contralateral eye. At the present time, the patient has bilateral periocular depigmentation. Cong

Osteonevus of Nanta-A Rare Case Report of a Cellular Blue Nevus with Ossification.

Background and Clinical Significance: Osteonevus of Nanta is a rare histological phenomenon characterized by bone formation within a benign melanocytic nevus, most commonly in intradermal nevi of the head and neck. Although osteonevus of Nanta is rare, ossification in a cellular blue nevus is even more uncommon. To date, only one case of a cellular blue nevus with ossification has been documented. This case report adds to the limited literature and emphasizes the clinical importance of recognizing this rare phenomenon, as osteonevus of Nanta has been potentially associated with malignant melan
