Occupational lung disease.

The pneumoconioses, extrinsic allergic alveolitis, lung damage due to irritant gases, fumes, and smoke constitute the occupational lung diseases that affect the lung parenchyma. The pneumoconioses are diseases resulting from the accumulation of dust in the lungs. The ILO has established a standardized system for classification of these pneumoconioses that includes both descriptions of diffuse lung opacities and pleural disease. The most common of the fibrogenic pneumoconioses are silicosis, CWP, and asbestosis. The former two entities are characterized radiographically by the presence of small

Occupational hypersensitivity pneumonitis reported to the Czech National Registry Of Occupational Diseases in the period 1992-2005.

Between 1992 and 2005, 72 cases of occupational hypersensitive pneumonitis were reported to the Czech National Registry of Occupational Diseases. This represented 0.24% of all occupational diseases reported in the Czech Republic during that period. The greatest number of cases occurred in 1997 (10 cases), of which men constituted 58.3% (42 cases) and women 41.7% (30 cases). The most prevalent cases were farmer's lung (50 cases), malt worker's lung (7 cases) and chemical worker's lung (6 cases). Agriculture was the most common economic activity (total 48 cases), with cattleman and dairyman (tot

Prevalence of suspected occupational diseases across critical industries in Malaysia.

BACKGROUND: Industrial workers are routinely exposed to various occupational hazards, which contribute to a substantial burden of suspected occupational diseases (OD) and injuries. Understanding the prevalence, distribution, and associated factors of these suspected conditions within Malaysian industries is crucial for effective risk mitigation and occupational disease prevention strategies. METHODS: A nationwide cross-sectional study was conducted across 13 states and three federal territories in Malaysia. Data were collected using an online, self-administered, and validated questionnaire de

Occupational Diseases in Art Conservators and Restorers: A Systematic Review.

Background/Objectives: Although cultural heritage conservators and restorers face consistent exposure to a multifaceted range of occupational hazards, research on their health remains limited. This systematic review aims to explore and synthesize the prevalence and types of occupational diseases among conservators and restorers of cultural heritage. It also intends to map populations, interventions, contexts and other relevant information to assess the current state of knowledge and identify gaps in the literature on the occupational health of conservation and restoration professionals. Method

Issue 3-The occupational burden of respiratory diseases, an update.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Workplace exposures are widely known to cause specific occupational diseases such as silicosis and asbestosis, but they also can contribute substantially to causation of common respiratory diseases. In 2019, the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS) published a joint statement on the occupational burden of respiratory diseases. Our aim on this narrative review is to summarise the most recent evidence published after the ATS/ERS statement as well as to provide information on traditional occupational lung diseases that can be useful for

[Compensation of occupational diseases during monitoring of the ARDCO cohort].

INTRODUCTION: Questions concerning under-reporting of occupational diseases (OD) linked to asbestos exposure are regularly voiced in France. Monitoring of the French multicenter Asbestos-Related Disease Cohort (ARDCO), which ensures post-occupational medical surveillance of subjects having been exposed to asbestos, provides information on (1) the medico-legal steps taken following screening by computed tomography (CT) for benign thoracic diseases, and (2) recognition of OD as a causal factor in malignant diseases. METHODS: OD recognition - and possible compensation - was analyzed in July 2021

The Role of the Skin Barrier in Occupational Skin Diseases.

Occupational skin diseases (OSDs) are the second most common occupational diseases worldwide. Occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) is the most frequent OSD, and comprises irritant contact dermatitis (ICD), allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), contact urticaria and protein contact dermatitis. There are many endogenous and exogenous factors which affect the development of OCD, including age, sex, ethnicity, atopic skin diathesis, certain occupations and environmental factors. One of the most important contributing causes is skin barrier dysfunction. The skin provides a first-line defense from env

[Occupational diseases in the petrochemical sector: types and temporal trends].

In Italy, the archives of the National Institute for the Insurance of Workplace Accidents and Occupational Diseases (INAIL) are supported from several years by a second source of data on occupational diseases, the MALPROF system, based on data from the prevention units of the local health services (ASL). Integrating these two data flows allows connecting diseases and the occupations at the onset of the disease itself. The 2009-10 data from 12 Italian regions currently participating in the MALPROF system show that noise-induced hearing loss represents the relatively most frequent occupational d

[Classification of occupational bronchial diseases: matters of controversy, open problems].

Current national classification of occupational bronchitis lacks to consider drastic changes in understanding pathogenesis of bronchial diseases over the recent decade, that leads to misunderstanding between occupational therapists and general practitioners in using this classification. The authors suggested a variant to classify occupational bronchial diseases: chronic occupational nonobstructive (simple) bronchitis and occupational COPD, that correspond to approaches accepted by international medical community. Tracheobronchial dyskinesia, asthmatic bronchitis and chronic pneumonia should be

Upper and lower respiratory diseases after occupational and environmental disasters.

Respiratory consequences from occupational and environmental disasters are the result of inhalation exposures to chemicals, particulate matter (dusts and fibers) and/or the incomplete products of combustion that are often liberated during disasters such as fires, building collapses, explosions and volcanoes. Unfortunately, experience has shown that environmental controls and effective respiratory protection are often unavailable during the first days to week after a large-scale disaster. The English literature was reviewed using the key words-disaster and any of the following: respiratory dise
