Changes in the expression of nuclear β-catenin are responsible for tumorigenesis. Beta-catenin acts synergistically with the TGF-β/BMPs pathway. This interaction leads to greater dentin deposition and may explain the differences between distinct tooth morphologies and hamartomas. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of β-catenin, BMP4 and TGF-β in the development of odontomas. This cross-sectional, retrospective, immunohistochemical study evaluated 30 compound odontomas, 30 complex odontomas and 17 tooth germs. The results showed that BMP4 and TGF-β were more immunoexpressed in th

Odontomas are the most common type of benign odontogenic tumors, representing around 70% of all odontogenic tumors of the jaws. Odontoma is typically present in the first and second decades of life. Morphologically, compound odontomas appear as deposited dental tissues in a pattern that makes a tooth-like structure. Compound odontomas can occur in any area of the jaws; however, the anterior maxilla is the most common location of compound odontomas. In the current report, we aimed to remove the tumor surgically to avoid unwanted consequences of odontomas, such as eruption disturbance, root reso

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: The common causes of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are identified as anatomic and/or functional abnormality in the oral cavity, oropharynx, velopharynx, and hypopharynx leading to compromised airway space and increased collapsibility.
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of implant-supported mandibular complete denture in improving the airway space among completely edentulous patients with OSA and compare it with conventional complete denture.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: In this observational study, completely edentulous individuals were screened with

AIMS: To evaluate the presence of dentofacial asymmetry in patients with odontoma by panoramic radiography.
METHODS: Panoramic images with odontoma were selected among all panoramic radiographs (3058 patients). Maxillary odontoma was detected in 27 patients while mandibular odontoma was detected in 25 patients. In addition, 30 patients with similar age and gender characteristics were selected as the control group. Skeletal angular, skeletal linear and dental measurements were performed on panoramic radiographs. The odontoma region and the opposite side of the odontoma of the individuals were

BACKGROUND: Odontomas are odontogenic tumours, resulting from epithelial growth and differentiated mesenchymal cells, clinically asymptomatic, and often associated with changes to the eruption of the permanent dentition. In recent years, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been used in the diagnosis and treatment planning of this condition.
CASE REPORT: A 9-year-old male patient, with an unerupted permanent maxillary right central incisor (tooth 11) presented to our clinic. The panoramic radiograph showed impaction of tooth 11 with incomplete root development and the suspicion of an odon

UNLABELLED: Odontomas are odontogenic benign tumors composed of dental tissue. Complex odontomas present as irregular masses containing different types of dental tissues, whereas compound odontomas present superficial anatomic similarity to even rudimentary teeth-the denticles.
CASE DESCRIPTION: In our case, we present a 9-year-old male patient who visited with a complaint of a retained upper primary incisor. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) reveals multiple tooth-like structures in the apical third of 51 and impacted 11. Extraction of around 50 odontomas was done under general anesthesia

Odontomas are the most common odontogenic neoplasms. They are generally small and asymptomatic. This article presents an unusual case of a giant maxillary complex odontoma, which obscured a part of the maxillary antrum and impacted a tooth. This was discovered during an episode of maxillofacial cellulitis. In this case, surgical excision of the lesion was performed under general anesthesia, and the closure was performed with a fat pad pedicled flap. A brief review of the literature was performed to analyze the characteristics of this clinical entity and their implication in the treatment.

Compound odontoma is a malformation typical of young adults below the age of 20, with a slight preference for the male gender and the anterior region of the maxilla. Clinically asymptomatic, it can be detected during a radiological investigation in connection with the persistence of deciduous dental elements and the impaction of definitive ones. The treatment of choice is excisional surgery and recurrence is a rare event. The need for orthodontic therapy for impacted elements is usually not necessary because in most cases, odontomas are small, circumscribed lesions the size of a permanent toot

Although odontomas are considered to be a common type of odontogenic tumor, they rarely occur solely in the primary dentition. This case report presents an eight and a half-year-old-child with a compound odontoma located in the mandible, which caused the impaction of both primary and permanent canines.

BACKGROUND: Practically every facet of the most common odontogenic tumor, odontoma, has been covered by an extensive volume of literature. However, uncertainty about its precise history has persisted.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The historical evolution of odontoma was traced with reference to the original illustrations that accompanied European and American reports published at the beginning of the 19th century and also at the turn of the century.
RESULTS: The prevailing views regarding the first description of odontoma by Oudet of Paris in 1809 and the original designation "odontome" by Broca o

Eruption of tooth into extraosseous locations is an extremely rare condition. We report a case of a six-year-old girl child with tooth-like structure erupting from the right buccal mucosa. Clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic examination suggested the diagnosis of compound odontoma. Very few cases have been reported so far, where tooth has been located completely in the soft tissue and a variety of names have been used for that condition. A brief review of the literature and the ambiguity in naming the situation is discussed.

Reports of compound odontomas in rats are very rare. A 14-month-old adult male Sprague Dawley rat was found to have a hard mass associated with the caudal aspect of the left mandible. After 2 weeks of observation, the rat was euthanized due to the mass growing significantly in size and the rat losing >20% of its body weight. Grossly, the mass was well-circumscribed, 3.7 × 3 × 1.2 cm, hard and heterogeneously coloured white, tan and red. The mass was restricted to the mandibular bone and did not involve surrounding subcutaneous tissue. On cut surface, the mass was a similar colour and brittle.

Complex odontoma or odontogenic hamartoma is the most common odontogenic tumor, diagnosed mainly in the first two decades of life, rarely exceeding 3 cm. This paper aim is report a clinical case of complex odontoma in the retromolar region that could induce an imminent risk of mandibular fracture. The patient reported local pain, discomfort, an area with hardened edema and absence of the lower right second molar. Using computed tomography, a three-dimensional model was printed and a mandibular reconstruction plate 2.4 mm pre-bent. Through intraoral access, osteotomy was performed to remove the

Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is a relatively rare, benign noninvasive mixed odontogenic neoplasm derived from epithelial and ectomesenchymal elements of the dental tissues. It usually presents with a mean age of 11.5 years and in the posterior segment of the mandible. It is extremely rare in the posterior maxilla. Although the latest WHO edition classified AFO as developing odontoma, here we present a locally aggressive AFO in a 21-year-old male involving the posterior maxilla and sinus with bone destruction. The patient presents with a two-year history of slowly progressive left facial s

BACKGROUND: Odontomas are hamartomatous developmental malformations of the dental tissues. Usually asymptomatic, their presence is often revealed on routine radiographs. The study aimed to establish the efficacy of this conventional approach in treating odontomas, analysing clinical outcome, follow-up, and histomorphological profile.
CASE REPORT: A case is presented with a review of the international literature. The patient, aged 8 years, had a complex odontoma localised on the front upper jaw. She was treated following the conventional surgical procedure. Post-operative course and healing we
