A novel polydentate chelating antioxidant ligand and series of organotin complexes on its base were synthesized and characterized by NMR 1H, 13C, 119Sn, IR spectroscopy, X-ray, and elemental analysis. Since seafood is considered an important source of organotin compounds (OTCs), the present study assessed the potential risk to human health of ingesting butyltins (BTs) and phenyltins (PhTs) along with this type of food. A systematic comparison of the optimized geometries of five organotin compounds, Cl(n)Sn(CH(3))(4-n), n = 0-4, with the available gas-phase electron diffraction results is reported. All optimizations were carried out with the B3LYP density functional method. Comparison of 10 basis sets and three effective core potentials leads to the conclusion that the combination of the SDB-aug-cc-pVTZ basis set and the LANL2 effective core potential for tin, together with the 6-31G(d,p) basis set for the other atoms, is recommended for the prediction of the geometries of organotin compounds.

There is a growing interest in the cancer cell growth inhibitory effects of organotin (IV) compounds and, accordingly, a new series of dimethyl-, di-(n-butyl)-, diphenyl- and chloro-phenyl tin(IV) complexes with a Schiff base core were prepared. This study identifies the de novo generation of novel volatile organotins in municipal waste deposits and their release via landfill gas. A method based on gas chromatography (GC)-pulsed flame photometric detection (PFPD) was developed to determine the levels of organotins in aquatic food. After being purified by gel-permeation chromatography in ethyl actate-tetrahydrofuran, the organotin compounds were derivatized by pentylmagnesium bromide. The derivative products were injected into the GC system and detected by PFPD (sulfur mode). The method was validated by analysis of the certified reference material and spiked samples.
