Fundamentals of Interceptive Orthodontics: Optimizing Dentofacial Growth and Development.

Interceptive orthodontics is intended to optimize dentofacial growth and development. This treatment concept attempts to prevent or minimize dental development abnormalities while enabling craniofacial growth modification. Utilizing preventative holistic concepts, it also focuses on habit intervention. Interceptive orthodontics in children entails monitoring for a variety of conditions, including excessive space, severe crowding, open or deep bites, anterior and/or posterior crossbites, severe overjet, and abnormal eruption patterns. This article will review the etiologies of these clinical pr

[Relationship between orthodontic treatment and root resorption].

As one of the common complications of orthodontic treatment, external apical root resorption (EARR) often occurs during orthodontic treatment. This paper systematically elaborates the degree classification of EARR and the biological mechanism of root resorption in orthodontic treatment. At the same time, orthodontic root resorption is caused by a variety of factors. They are not only affected by genetic and environmental factors, but also by great individual differences. This paper summarizes the factors influencing the root resorption of orthodontic teeth and the prognosis of root resorption.

Early orthodontic treatment need over a 10-year period and evaluation of short-term intervention stability.

OBJECTIVE: Early orthodontic treatment with cost reimbursement within the framework of the German statutory health insurance (GKV) is only possible for a strictly defined malocclusion group as defined by the orthodontic indication groups (KIG). It is not yet clear whether the application of the KIG criteria and corresponding successful early orthodontic interventions result in no or significantly less need for treatment in the late mixed dentition or in the permanent dentition. This study therefore investigated short-term intervention stability from a 10-year-period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Be

[Eruption disturbances].

Eruption disturbances of teeth should not be considered as a curiosity. Acquaintance with these phenomena should form a substantial component of the dentist's, orthodontist's and oral and maxillofacial surgeon's basic expertise. Early detection of these disturbances followed by treatment in due time, can minimise progressive negative effects, such as the development of severe malocclusion. Treatment modalities are described.

Interactions between Orthodontic Treatment and Gingival Tissue.

In recent years, as the number of adults seeking orthodontic treatment has increased, so too has the number of periodontal tissue problems, particularly regarding the impact on periodontal tissue of receiving orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment improves the occlusion and appearance of teeth by moving the teeth appropriately. These movements have a significant impact on the interactions between the teeth and periodontal tissues. Orthodontic treatment can also recover tooth alignment for patients with tooth displacement caused by periodontitis; however, orthodontic treatment also often

To what extent do deviations from an ideal occlusion constitute a health risk?

Selection of patients for orthodontic treatment should be based on a thorough analysis of the consequences of malocclusions for the individual. The mere presence of deviations from the concept of the ideal occlusion should have no influence on orthodontic treatment decisions. According to available studies, the influence of malocclusion on periodontal health, speech and chewing is fairly minor. Neither can orthodontic treatment be justified as an effective means of preventing TMD but it may be indicated to reduce existing signs and symptoms of TMD in certain carefully selected cases. [Risk management and clinical strategies for early enamel demineralization in orthodontic patients].

Early enamel demineralization, one of the common side effects of orthodontic treatment, occurs when dental plaque accumulation disrupts the balances of demineralization-remineralization and the oral microbial ecology. Clinically, the existence of orthodontic appliances can make oral hygiene more challenging. At the same time, patient adherence to oral hygiene appointments may be inconsistent. The combination of these factors often leads to inadequate plaque control and increases the risk of enamel demineralization. Presently, there is a lack of standardized guidelines for the clinical interven

Maintenance of space by innovative three-dimensional-printed band and loop space maintainer.

Preventive orthodontics is an aspect of pediatric dentistry, which requires a unique set of skills and understanding to aid the patient's treatment and properly align teeth. The safest way to prevent future malocclusions from tooth loss is to place a space maintainer (SM), which is advocated to hold the space until the eruption of permanent teeth. SM manufacturing is a laborious process that requires ample communication with the laboratory to properly complete and provide the patient with optimal results. Band and loop SM is mostly indicated for the premature loss of single primary molar, but

Experimental evidence of pharmacological management of anchorage in Orthodontics: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic anchorage is one of the most challenging aspects of Orthodontics. Preventing undesired movement of teeth could result in safer and less complicated orthodontic treatment. Recently, several reviews have been published about the effects of different molecules on bone physiology and the clinical side effects in Orthodontics. However, the effects of local application of these substances on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement have not been assessed. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this research was to analyze the scientific evidence published in the literature about the effects

Insurance effects on employer group dental expenditures.

As the number of dental insureds and the amount of insured expenditures have increased over the past decade, so has interest in determining insurance effects on dental demand among employer groups and their insureds. Using Pennsylvania Blue Shield (PBS) employer group data representing 50-65% of all PBS insureds, the authors estimate the own-effect of basic insurance rates (diagnostic, preventive, restorative, endodontic, extraction services) and the cross-effects of riders A (crowns and oral surgery), B (prosthodontics), C (periodontics), and D (orthodontics) insurance rates on annual basic e
