Allergic onycholysis and paronychia caused by cyanoacrylate nail glue, but not by photobonded methacrylate nails.

Artificial acrylic nails may induce side effects such as fingertip dermatitis, periungual dermatitis, onycholysis, paresthesiae, Raynaud's phenomenon, ectopic facial involvement, and allergic contact dermatitis. We present a patient who developed allergic onycholysis from a cyanoacrylate used in a nail adhesive. She was able to use photobonded sculptured nails because they contain methacrylates that do not cross-react with cyanoacrylates.

Effective and enduring surgical treatment for targeted therapy-related paronychia: A retrospective study.

The development of targeted therapy has improved treatment outcomes for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, paronychia, a common adverse effect of targeted therapy, remains burdensome. Although conservative treatments for paronychia have been well reported in the literature, studies on the efficacy of surgical partial matricectomy for paronychia, are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of surgical partial matricectomy in targeted therapy-induced paronychia in patients with NSCLC. This retrospective cohort study included 11 patients with a total of 18 lesions

Recalcitrant trametinib-induced paronychia treated successfully with topical timolol in a pediatric patient.

Paronychia has been described as a side effect in patients undergoing treatment with MEK (mitogen activated protein kinase enzyme) inhibitors. It is usually a recurrent condition that can have a significant impact in the quality of life. Topical beta blocker treatment has been described as an effective therapy in antineoplastic-induced pyogenic granulomas and in antineoplastic-induced paronychia. We describe the first case treated with topical timolol for a trametinib-induced paronychia in a pediatric patient that allowed to continue the third line antineoplastic therapy for his glioma.

Ungual squamous cell carcinoma mimicking a chronic paronychia: clinical, pathological and radiological correlation.

Squamous cell carcinoma is a malignant skin tumor that is rarely located in the nails. Its presentation, can sometimes be confused with an inflammatory process as onychomycosis or psoriatic onychopathy or other tumors as viral warts. We report the case of a 73-year-old woman with a locally invasive squamous cell carcinoma reaching the bone, simulating a chronic paronychia.

Keloid formation on the great toe after chronic paronychia secondary to ingrown nail.

Keloid is a clinically intractable fibro-proliferative disease that spreads beyond the original scar or lesion. Although several theories have attempted to explain the mechanism of keloid formation, the phenomenon still remains obscure. Our present study examines a rare case of keloid formation that occurred on the great toe after a repeated paronychia secondary to an ingrown nail. The 22-year-old female patient had a large keloid with chronic paronychia and a history of ingrown nails on her left great toe on both the lateral nail folds. We excised the keloids and made new lateral nail grooves

Retronychia a little-known cause of paronychia: A report of two cases in adolescent patients.

Retronychia is a clinical condition resulting from embedding of the nail plate into the proximal nail fold. We report two adolescent girls, 14 and 16 years of age, with a history of chronic proximal paronychia of the great toe, one of them developing osteomyelitis. After failure of treatment with several systemic antibiotics, nail avulsion was performed, leading us to the diagnosis of retronychia and with rapid and complete resolution of symptoms in both cases. Delay in diagnosis of retronychia can lead to local complications and prolonged discomfort.

Chronic Paronychia and Onychomadesis in Pemphigus Vegetans: An Unusual Presentation in a Rare Autoimmune Disease.

Pemphigus vegetans is a rare variant of deep acantholytic pemphigus which usually presents with vesiculobullous rash and vegetative plaques on the folds. We report a case of pemphigus vegetans patient who presented with rashes on tips of fingers and toes resembling paronychia and onychomadesis that misled the diagnosis for months. The final diagnosis of Hallopeau-type pemphigus vegetans was made based on histopathology and direct immunofluorescence studies. Interestingly, not only the clinical presentation was atypical, but blood tests for anti-desmoglein 1 and 3 antibodies by ELISA technique

Treatment and prevention of paronychia using a new combination of topicals: report of 30 cases.

AIM: Moderate and chronic paronychia is a common disease affecting the hand. Treatment can be effective but the affection is often recurrent, especially as an occupational disease. Moreover, this condition may be complicated by a Candida spp or by bacterial infections. Therefore, general preventive measures can be useful in maintaining health. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of a new combination of topical medications in the treatment and prevention of moderate and chronic paronychia. This formulation includes an insulating polymer (Syn-cell barrier), two

Cervical spine infection arising from chronic paronychia: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Cervical spine pyogenic infection (CSPI) is a rare and challenging form of spinal infection that is typically caused by pyogenic bacteria and primarily affects the cervical vertebral bodies and surrounding tissues. Given its nonspecific symptoms, such as fever and neck pain, early diagnosis is crucial to prevent severe complications, including spinal cord injury. We report a previously unreported case of acute CSPI arising from chronic paronychia, exploring its diagnostic and therapeutic challenges through a review of the current literature. CASE SUMMARY: The presented case involv

Are topical beta-blockers really effective "in real life" for targeted therapy-induced paronychia.

Paronychia and periungual pyogenic granuloma represent one of the most common and bothersome dermatologic toxicities observed with ErbB inhibitors. There is no standardized treatment, and management remains challenging. Moreover, conservative management with noninvasive treatment should be promoted for fragile patients in a metastatic setting. Over the last few years, the efficacy of topical blocking agents has been considered for managing cutaneous or mucosal pyogenic granulomas. Very recently, the use of topical propranolol or of timolol has been reported in several patients undergoing treat

Orodigital pemphigus vulgaris: a pathogenic role of anti-desmoglein-3 autoantibodies in pemphigus paronychia?

Paronychia is a rare complication of pemphigus vulgaris (PV), and the immunological profile of patients with digital disease has not been assessed so far. We report 2 cases of PV with oral mucosa and periungual involvement, who had high titers of anti- desmoglein (Dsg)-3 circulating antibodies. These observations raise the possibility that expression of Dsg-1 and Dsg-3 in distinct areas of periungual skin is disease specific and that anti-Dsg-3 antibodies alone may have an as yet unrecognized importance for the development of paronychia in PV.

A Rare Paronychia with Superinfection with Prevotella bivia and Staphylococcus haemolyticus: The Importance of Early Microbiological Diagnosis.

Prevotella bivia is an anaerobic, gram-negative bacillus which naturally thrives in the human vagina, and is usually related to vaginal tract infections. However, this microorganism can also cause infections in other body locations. Infections with Prevotella bivia are frequently severe due to the risk of osteomyelitis and the lack of good protocols for adequate therapeutic management. Staphylococcus haemolyticus infection is one of the most frequent etiological factors of nosocomial infections, which hasthe ability to acquire multiple resistance against antimicrobial agents. We report a rare

[Chronic paronychia and synovialitis of extensor tendons due to Mycobacterium marinum. Is diagnosis or treatment the problem?].

Most infections of the upper extremity are caused by staphylococcus or streptococcus and respond well to beta-lactam antibiotics. Hand surgeons should be aware of the possible diagnosis of Mycobacterium marinum infection: 90% of the lesions are found in the upper extremity. We present a case of a chronic, cutaneous lesion of the right middle finger with synovialitis of the extensor tendons observed in a 35-year-old woman. Routine cultures from tissue of the infected finger led to the diagnosis of paronychia due to staphylococcus aureus. Despite surgical and antibacterial treatment, the lesion

CO2 Laser Matrixectomy for Refractory MEK Inhibitor-Induced Paronychia in Children: A Case Series.

Paronychia is a frequent cutaneous adverse event associated with MEK inhibitor therapy and may significantly impair quality of life and compromise treatment adherence. Treatment is usually medical, with poor and unsustained results. We retrospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of CO2 laser matrixectomy in children at a tertiary center between 2016 and 2026. Five patients with prolonged symptoms despite multiple conservative treatments were identified. Complete resolution was achieved in all patients, with no procedure-related complications. MEK inhibitor therapy was continued without r

Primary Cutaneous CD8+ T-cell Lymphoma, an Indolent and Locally Aggressive Form Mimicking Paronychia.

CD8 T-cell lymphomas comprise a wide spectrum of lymphomas, many which have yet to be formally classified. We present a case of a 43-year-old woman with an enlarging tumor distal to the distal interphalangeal joint of the fourth finger, compressing the underlying nail matrix. Magnetic resonance imaging showed bony involvement of the underlying distal phalanx. Histology showed a dense epidermotropic and pandermal infiltrate composed of medium-sized, uniformly pleomorphic lymphocytes with cleaved nuclei, which raised the possibility of primary cutaneous CD8 aggressive epidermotropic cytotoxic T-
