Infection with parvovirus B19 may result in a wide range of dermatologic manifestations. The specific skin findings include erythema infectiosum and papular purpuric "gloves-and-socks" syndrome. The nonspecific findings include reticular erythema, maculopapular eruptions, and petechiae and purpura, as well as other less frequently described findings. Associations with other dermatologic diseases, such as erythema multiforme and erythema nodosum, also have been described. A role in the pathogenesis of various collagen vascular disorders has been suggested and is under investigation. The diagnos

The B19 strain of parvovirus causes several distinct and important clinical diseases in humans. Aplastic crisis in patients with chronic hemolytic anemia, persistent bone marrow depression in immunocompromised individuals, and hydrops fetalis all result from direct infection of hematopoietic cells by the virus. Erythema infectiosum, arthritis, and purpuric vasculitis are postinfectious manifestations of B19 parvovirus infection.

Maternal infection with human Parvovirus B19 during pregnancy is one of the rare reasons, which can lead to a not immunologically conditioned hydrops fetalis. We report here a case of intrauterine Parvovirus infection associated with hydrops fetalis, diagnosed by intrauterine sonography in the 29 week of gestation, one week after the outbreak of Erythema. The B19 infection of the low birth weight baby, delivered in the 30 week of gestation, was diagnosed serologically with specific IgM and IgG against B19 by ELISA. No malformation could be detected in the liveborn infant, who died on the third

Crab-eating (Cerdocyon thous) and Pampas foxes (Lycalopex gymnocercus) are wild canids distributed in South America. Domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) and wild canids may share viral pathogens, including rabies virus (RABV), canine distemper virus (CDV), and canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2). To characterize the virome of these wild canid species, the present work evaluated the spleen and mesenteric lymph node virome of 17 crab-eating and five Pampas foxes using high-throughput sequencing (HTS). Organ samples were pooled and sequenced using an Illumina MiSeq platform. Additional PCR analyses we

Since the outbreak of short beak and dwarfish syndrome (SBDS) in Cherry Valley Pekin ducks in China, novel goose parvovirus (NGPV) has been isolated. Till now, little is known about the NGPV pathogenesis toward Cherry Valley Pekin ducks. Besides, due to detection of duck circovirus co-infection in SBDS clinical cases, whether sole NGPV infection can reproduce all the typical symptoms of SBDS remains unclear. In this study, based on the NGPV isolate SDJN19, an infectious plasmid clone pJNm containing the entire SDJN19 genome was constructed. Transfection of pJNm in embryonated duck eggs resulte

1. This study explored the effects of Astragalus membranaceus polysaccharide (APS) on intestinal inflammatory damage of goslings infected with parvovirus ('gosling plague').2. A total of 90 healthy goslings were randomly divided into three groups; control, infected or APS treated, respectively. Goslings in the infection and APS treatment groups were inoculated with 0.3 ml allantoic fluid containing goose parvovirus (ELD50 = 1 × 103/0.3 ml) by intramuscular injection and the control group were injected with saline (0.3 ml) twice a day for 15 days.3. Blood serum and the jejunum were collected at

AIM: Recently identified human bocavirus (HBoV) types 2 and 3 have been associated with acute gastroenteritis in children. We studied 878 stool specimens from children with acute gastroenteritis and 112 controls (43 children with unspecified fever, 33 with respiratory tract infection and 36 healthy children) for known HBoVs. The same specimens were previously studied for rotaviruses, noroviruses, sapoviruses, adenoviruses, coronaviruses and aichivirus.
METHODS: HBoVs were detected by PCR and positive amplicons were sequenced to identify HBoV1, HBoV2, HBoV3 and HBoV4.
RESULTS: HBoV of any typ

The human parvovirus B19 (PVB19), an erythrovirus causing diverse clinical manifestations ranging from asymptomatic or mild to more severe outcomes such as hydrops fetalis, is the only known human pathogenic parvovirus so far. Although enteroviruses have long been considered the most common cause of inflammatory cardiomyopathy, PVB19 is emerging as a important candidate. Recent studies have indicated an association of PVB19 with paediatric and adult inflammatory cardiac disease. However, whether or not PVB19 has an impact on inflammatory cardiomyopathy in adult patients is still unclear. The f

A 25 year old woman with a 15-year history of paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria developed transient pancytopenia following infection with human parvovirus B19. This is the first report of transient pancytopenia in a patient with an acquired haemolytic anaemia due to parvovirus. The possible mechanism of pancytopenia in such a case is discussed.

Parvovirus B19-infections are diagnosed with increasing frequency. In addition to erythema infectiosum they cause a temporary red cell aplasia of 5-10 days duration, in patients with hemolytic anemia an aplastic crisis as demonstrated in 5 patients with hereditary spherocytosis. In every case an acute infection by parvovirus B19 could be diagnosed. Hemoglobin concentrations dropped to 4.0-6.2 g/dl, reticulocytes were diminished to 0-25,000/microliters. In every case there followed a complete recovery of erythropoiesis after 2-3 days.

Human parvovirus is the causative agent of erythema infectiosum, a mild epidemic illness. In a recent outbreak in northeast Scotland, six women had serologic evidence of having contracted human parvovirus infection during pregnancy. Two of the women had midtrimester abortions, and both abortuses were grossly hydropic with anemia. They had similar microscopical histopathological features--a pronounced leukoerythroblastic reaction, hepatitis, excessive iron pigment in the liver, and eosinophilic changes in the hematopoietic cell nuclei. Pre-harvest viral profiles of food-producing ruminants in high-altitude pastoral systems remain poorly defined, limiting the selection of viral targets for monitoring along animal-derived food chains. In this study, we performed viral metagenomic profiling of 142 pooled serum libraries generated from 712 individual blood samples collected from yaks and Tibetan sheep across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. A total of 2.87 billion raw reads were obtained, of which 26.34 million were assigned to viral taxa. The serum viromes were dominated by single-stranded DNA and single-stranded RNA viruses, with Pa

Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) is a single-stranded non-enveloped DNA virus of the family Parvoviridae that has been associated with various autoimmune disorders. Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune connective tissue disorder with high mortality and has been linked to B19V infection. However, the precise mechanism underlying the B19V contribution to the development of SSc remains uncertain. This study investigated the impacts of the functional B19V-VP1 unique region (VP1u) in macrophages and bleomycin (BLE)-induced SSc mice. Cell experimental data showed that significantly decreased viabili

Viruses were identified from male anthropophilic mosquitoes from Mato Grosso (MT) State, Midwest Brazil from February 2017 to January 2018. Mosquitoes tested included Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (1139 males; 84 pools), Culex quinquefasciatus (9426 males; 179 pools), Culex sp. (3 males; 3 pools) and Psorophora albigenu (1 male; 1 pool) collected from four cities of MT. Pools were subjected to viral RNA extraction followed by RT-PCRs specific for ten flaviviruses, five alphaviruses and Simbu serogroup of orthobunyaviruses. Positive pools were passaged three times in VERO cells (alphavirus and orth

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was investigated for detecting human parvovirus B19 (B19) DNA in sera. Three pairs of oligonucleotides were evaluated as primers. The best oligonucleotide pair spanned 699 nucleotides, including the region common to VP1 and VP2. After PCR amplification of B19 DNA in serum, a 699-nucleotide DNA fragment was detected on agarose gels. This DNA fragment was B19 DNA, because after Southern transfer it hybridized to a 19-nucleotide internal probe and contained a single PstI cleavage site. Dot blot hybridization with a radiolabeled cloned portion of the B19 genome

Human parvovirus B19 has been associated with disease only for the past few years. First isolated from sera obtained for studies on hepatitis B in 1975, it was not until 1981 that infection with this small, single-stranded DNA virus was related to aplastic crisis associated with hemolytic anemia. A nonspecific viral prodrome, the occurrence in family members, and epidemics of aplastic crisis suggested the infectious etiology. Human parvovirus infection has since been associated with arthritis, erythema infectiosum (fifth disease), fetal death, and hydrops fetalis. Through the use of recently d
