Implementing Adjunct Trauma-Focused Imagery Rescripting in Inpatient Treatment for patients who are underweight with comorbid eating disorders and PTSD: Therapist Challenges and the Supporting Role of Peer Group Supervision.

BACKGROUND: Trauma-focused therapies like Imagery Rescripting (ImRs) are seldom offered to patients who are underweight with comorbid eating disorders (uED) and PTSD, due to doubts about their emotional and cognitive capacities. However, high rates of PTSD comorbidity in this group highlight the need for tailored trauma interventions. This study examines therapists' experiences applying ImRs in this population, with a focus on specific challenges and how Peer Group Supervision sessions (PGSs) supported treatment delivery. METHOD: A qualitative thematic analysis was conducted using 11 semi-str

Protocol for the Feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial of Being a Parent- Enjoying Family Life (BAP-EFL): A peer-led group intervention for parents and caregivers with significant emotional and interpersonal difficulties.

Group-format parenting interventions are well-established at reducing challenging child behavior and risk for psychopathology. However, there is significantly less evidence about the performance of these interventions for parents with significant emotional and interpersonal difficulties, including personality disorder. This protocol presents the rationale and design of a two-arm parallel group feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial and nested process evaluation of Being a Parent (BaP)- Enjoying Family Life, a novel peer-led intervention. The trial compares BaP-Enjoying Family Life to the well

Nicotine Dependence and Quit Self-Confidence in a Smoking Cessation Program Using a Group-Based Digital Peer-Supported App and Cigarette Consumption-Adjusted Nicotine Aids Among Japanese Workers: Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Completion rates for smoking cessation treatments under Japan's national health insurance system remain suboptimal. A workplace cessation program, combining nicotine gum or patches with a group-based digital peer-supported app, has reported high cessation success rates. Although nicotine dependence is generally associated with lower cessation success, and self-confidence is generally associated with higher success, these associations may differ by tobacco product type. Evidence on these relationships in app-based cessation programs remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to e

Increasing capacity by moving away from one-to-one clinical supervision: using peer-assisted learning and a group model of student placements in community paediatric speech and language therapy to enable student-led service delivery.

BACKGROUND: Health Education England (HEE) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) have identified the need to increase placement capacity. Speech and language therapy is a shortage profession in the UK, so services need to consider innovative placement models to increase their placement offers without increasing the time burden on speech and language therapists (SLTs). AIMS: To increase capacity for pre-registration practice-based learning by using peer-assisted learning (PAL) in a group model of student placement to enable student-led service delivery which provides

The Protocol for: Do peers enhance behavior change in group motivational interviewing? A translational clinical trial investigating brain synchrony in underage emerging adults during an fMRI hyperscanning task and association with alcohol use reductions.

UNLABELLED: US emerging adults under legal drinking age (underage emerging adults; U-EA; ages 18-19) are unlikely to seek or receive indicated health risk behavior interventions, thus it is imperative to find brief, effective interventions to reduce U-EA health risk behaviors, such as drinking. Developmental neuroscience reflects that peers hold higher neural salience during adolescence, as evidenced by differential neural response with real and/or simulated peers, even when those peers are not friends, and particularly in the context of alcohol. Peers also activate positive (prosocial) neural

Putting Out Fires: Understanding the Developmental Nature and Roles of Inmate Gangs in the Philippine Overcrowded Jails.

Utilizing intensive interview data from inmates in one of the most overcrowded and underresourced jails in Metro Manila, Philippines, this article explores the origins and roles of inmate pangkats (a derivative of gangs) in jail management. Responding to institutional deficiencies, such as police misconduct and court case delays, and structural shortages, such as lack of space, operational resources, and personnel, this article investigates how the pangkats supplement jail management and help keep the jail operations afloat. Specifically, this article documents how the pangkats put out fires:

"Shared experience makes this all possible": documenting the guiding principles of peer-led services for people released from prison.

BACKGROUND: There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of peer-led services in supporting community reintegration for people released from prison. This study aims to document the guiding principle of a peer-led service for people released from prison, from the perspective of peer mentors. METHODS: Data were collected using focus groups (N = 10; 2 groups with 5 participants each) and one-on-one interviews (N = 5) including a total of 13 people, representing all UTGSS staff at the time of the study. An inductive thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in the dat

Effects of Friendship Influence and Normative Pressure on Adolescent Attitudes and Behaviors.

Peers are assumed to be crucial in shaping adolescents' attitudes and behaviors in schools; what peers yield social influence over adolescents is less clear. We disentangled two mechanisms of peer influence: friendship influence and normative pressure. Friendship influence refers to the impact of friends' attitudes and behaviors, while normative pressure stems from the influence of peers from the same social group, such as gender group. We adopted a network perspective, recognizing that peer influence can be shaped by changing relationships among peers. We investigated friendship influence and

Neurodiversity and cognitive load in online learning: A focus group study.

It is widely accepted that cognitive load plays a crucial role in online learning. However, despite neurodevelopmental conditions being the largest category of qualifying disabilities in education, and the rise of online learning, there is little understanding of the factors impacting cognitive load in online learning for neurodivergent students and how these factors differ from those affecting neurotypical students. This study used qualitative comparison groups with neurotypical and neurodivergent students to examine their experiences of cognitive load in online learning. A sample of 26 unive

My friends made me do it: Peer influences and different types of vaping in adolescence.

Vaping is one of the most common forms of substance use among adolescents. Social influences play a key role in the decision to use substances and frequency of use during adolescence, and vaping is no exception. Using a sample of 891 adolescents across two time points (Mage = 15.1 and Mage = 17.2) in this pre-registered study, we explored whether the frequency of vaping nicotine and the frequency of vaping marijuana at age 17 were related to concurrent reports of resistance to peer influence (RPI), perceptions of friends vaping, and perceptions of classmates vaping. Then, we investigated wheth

Prospective Pathways from Affect to Drug Outcomes: Refusal Self-Efficacy in the Context of Peer Influences.

Objective: Non-alcohol drug (NAD) use and its associated consequences remain a prevalent problem among young adults. Both positive and negative affect play etiological roles in NAD. The perception of one's ability to refuse a drug in different situations (drug refusal self-efficacy) could be an important mediator between such affect and NAD outcomes (use and consequences). This study examined mediational pathways from affect to NAD use and NAD-related consequences via drug refusal self-efficacy. We also examined the moderating role of normative perceptions of peer NAD involvement. Method: Acro

Peer review in team-based learning: influencing feedback literacy.

BACKGROUND: Peer review in Team-based learning (TBL) exists for three key reasons: to promote reflection on individual behaviours; provide opportunities to develop professional skills; and prevent 'free riders' who fail to contribute effectively to team discussions. A well-developed process that engages students is needed. However, evidence suggests it remains a difficult task to effectively incorporate into TBL. The purpose of this study was to assess medical students' ability to provide written feedback to their peers in TBL, and to explore students' perception of the process, using the conc

The developmental origins of egalitarianism.

Stibbard-Hawkes and von Rueden argue that egalitarianism is best understood through process rather than outcome. We extend this by showing that the same inequalities and processes found in hunter-gatherer societies exist among children's peer cultures. This consistency, alongside early-emerging concerns for mutual respect, suggests egalitarianism may reflect foundational processes in social cognition, which particular ecologies and subsistence practices can refine.

Supporting people leaving prisons during COVID-19: perspectives from peer health mentors.

PURPOSE: Currently, people leaving prisons face concurrent risks from the COVID-19 pandemic and the overdose public health emergency. The closure or reduction of community services people rely on after release such as treatment centres and shelters has exacerbated the risks of poor health outcomes and harms. This paper aims to learn from peer health mentors (PHM) about changes to their work during overlapping health emergencies, as well as barriers and opportunities to support people leaving prison in this context. Susceptibility to peer influence on prosocial behavior in adolescents with Mild Intellectual Disability or Borderline Intellectual Functioning.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) or Borderline Intellectual Functioning (BIF) are highly susceptible to negative peer influence. However, research in typically developing adolescents shows that peers can also promote prosocial behavior, which is an opportunity for positive development. AIMS: The current study aimed to investigate the effect of peer influence on prosocial behavior in adolescents with MID or BIF. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: In an experimental donation task, 40 adolescents with MID or BIF (Mage = 14.0, 40 % boys) were repeatedly asked how many of five
