The Use of the Perfusion Index to Predict Post-Induction Hypotension in Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Post-induction hypotension (PIH) is a common and potentially serious complication of general anesthesia. This meta-analysis (Prospero registration number: CRD42024566321) aimed to evaluate the predictive efficacy of the perfusion index (PI) for PIH in patients undergoing general anesthesia. A comprehensive literature search was performed using multiple electronic databases (Google Scholar, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and MEDLINE). Studies involving adult patients undergoing general anesthesia, with the PI measured before anesthesia induction and reporting PIH incidence, were included. The primar

Renal vascular index measurements on noncontrast microvascular ultrasound correlate with indirect renal perfusion parameters in healthy cats during periods of hypotension.

OBJECTIVE: To establish the feasibility of noncontrast microvascular flow ultrasonography for assessing renal cortical perfusion in cats. METHODS: 6 healthy, young neutered male anesthetized cats were enrolled in this prospective, exploratory, analytical study. Microvascular flow-based vascular index (VI) measurements were acquired from bilateral kidneys at normal (70 to 100 mm Hg mean arterial pressure [MAP]), low (< 60 mm Hg MAP), and high (> 100 mm Hg MAP) blood pressures as measured by an indwelling femoral arterial catheter. Renal interlobar artery resistive indices (RIs) were measured t

A New Proposed Approach to Categorize Sepsis Sub-phenotypes Based on Combined Trajectories of Perfusion Index and Central Venous Oxygen Saturation.

BACKGROUND: Circulatory disturbances in sepsis are heterogeneous but may manifest as a mismatch between peripheral perfusion and tissue oxygenation. Peripheral perfusion index (PI) and central venous oxygen saturation (ScvO 2 ) have been independently validated as prognostic markers in sepsis; however, their combined utility remains unexplored. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included patients admitted to three intensive care units between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2021. A novel index, PISO = (PI - 1.1) × ScvO 2 , was calculated every 6 hours during the first 72 hours followi

Assessment of parasacral ischial plane block success using sonographically measured regional hemodynamic variables and perfusion index: an observational diagnostic accuracy study.

BACKGROUND: Traditional methods of assessing block success pose challenges in patients with traumatic brain injuries, who are often uncooperative and non-compliant to subjective assessment. We thus planned this study with the aim of evaluating effectiveness of objective parameters, including perfusion index(PI) and ultrasound-guided regional hemodynamic parameters, for indicating success of ultrasound-guided parasacral ischial plane(PIP) block, a lower extremity fascial plane block. METHODS: We enrolled 89 consecutive adult trauma patients scheduled for lower-limb orthopaedic surgery under ult

Association between preoperative toe perfusion index and maternal core temperature decrease during cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The main mechanism of body temperature decrease during cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia is core-to-peripheral redistribution of body heat, attributable to vasodilation. Perfusion index (PI) obtained with a pulse oximeter helps to assess peripheral perfusion dynamics by detecting the change in peripheral vascular tone. This study aimed to examine whether preoperative toe PI could predict the decrease in core temperature induced by spinal anesthesia during cesarean delivery. METHODS: Parturients undergoing scheduled cesarean delivery under combined spinal-epidural anesthesi

Effects of missing dynamic images on myocardial perfusion reserve index calculation: comparison between an every heartbeat and an alternate heartbeat acquisition.

A commonly used method for analysis of first pass myocardial perfusion imaging is the calculation of a myocardial perfusion reserve index (MPRI) obtained by dividing the upslopes of the time-intensity curves at stress and rest. Perfusion data can be acquired with several different sequences with images acquired at every single, 2nd, or 3rd heartbeat. During data acquisition, some images of the dynamic series can be missed due to extra beats. Twenty-six patients underwent first-pass magnetic resonance perfusion imaging, acquiring images every heartbeat at rest and stress. The maximal upslopes o

Uterine Artery Doppler Disturbance Index Is Associated with Endometrial Perfusion and Clinical Pregnancy in IVF/ICSI: A Single-Center Retrospective Cohort Study.

OBJECTIVES: Uterine artery Doppler is widely used to gauge endometrial receptivity in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)/Intracytoplasmic Sperm injection (ICSI), but a single pulsatility index (PI) measurement from bilateral uterine arteries at a single time point captures neither the full extent of inter-side asymmetry nor the cycle-to-cycle variability that may better reflect a hostile peri-implantation environment. We defined a Uterine Artery Doppler Disturbance index (UADD-PI and UADD-RI) as the coefficient of variation of bilateral pulsatility and resistance indices measured across 3 consecutiv
