Neuropsychological functioning and profile validity on the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI): An investigation in multiple psychiatric settings.

Psychologists in medical settings are frequently tasked with providing comprehensive evaluations of patients with complex medical and psychiatric conditions. In order to achieve these aims, standardized measures of neurocognitive and psychological functioning are often employed to empirically assess a patient's level of functioning across an array of relevant clinical domains. However, less is known about the degree to which cognitive impairment affects a patient's ability to complete these more comprehensive assessments, raising questions about test validity. The current study sought to contr

Hierarchical Structure of the Eysenck Personality Inventory in a Large Population Sample: Goldberg's Trait-Tier Mapping Procedure.

The structure of the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) is poorly understood, and applications have mostly been confined to the broad Neuroticism, Extraversion, and Lie scales. Using a hierarchical factoring procedure, we mapped the sequential differentiation of EPI scales from broad, molar factors to more specific, molecular factors, in a UK population sample of over 6500 persons. Replicable facets at the lowest tier of Neuroticism included emotional fragility, mood lability, nervous tension, and rumination. The lowest order set of replicable Extraversion facets consisted of social dynamism,

Keeping hostility in perspective: coronary heart disease and the Hostility Scale on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.

Three prospective studies from the early 1980s found that high scores on the Hostility (Ho) Scale of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) were associated with an increased incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) and mortality from CHD and other causes. In the current study, the association between the Ho score and subsequent health status was examined in a 20-year follow-up of 620 general medical patients who completed the MMPI between 1962 and 1965. Univariately, the Ho score from the MMPI was a significant factor for predicting the development of CHD, CHD-related mortalit

An adoption and a cross-fostering study of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) Psychopathic Deviate Scale.

The first of two complementary studies compared biological and adoptive parents of teenage adoptees with either higher (n = 21) or low (n = 51) MMPI Psychopathic Deviate (Pd) scale scores. In comparison to biological mothers of the low-Pd adoptees, biological mothers of the high-Pd adoptees obtained significantly higher MMPI scores on six of eight clinical scales. Fewer differences existed between the corresponding groups of adoptive mothers, but adoptive mothers of the high Pd's did obtain significantly higher scores on the Pd and Hypomania scales. Substantial genetic correspondences also exi

Assessing the Big Five personality traits in presymptomatic and symptomatic C9orf72-related frontotemporal dementia using the Dutch Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5-NL).

BACKGROUND: C9orf72 is one of the leading causes of genetic FTD. Although neuropsychiatric symptoms are considered a distinctive hallmark, no studies into maladaptive premorbid personality traits have been performed in C9orf72-FTD thus far. METHODS: We investigated differences in self-reported and informant-reported brief version of the Dutch Personality Inventory for the DSM (PID-5-NL) in symptomatic (n = 7) and presymptomatic C9orf72 repeat expansion carriers (C9orf72-REC) (n = 27), and controls (n = 18). We also explored relationships with cognitive performance and neuropsychiatric questio

Personality Inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD) Trait Domains: Psychometric Properties and Cutoffs Based on General Population Norms.

The ICD-11 classification of Personality Disorder (PD) relies on global severity of personality dysfunction, while up to five trait domains can be specified as individual expressions (i.e. Negative affectivity, Detachment, Dissociality, Disinhibition, and Anankastia). The 60-item Personality inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD) was developed to measure these domains but has not yet been evaluated in Scandinavian context. Using a representative and socio-demographically stratified sample of the Danish adult population (N = 714), this study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the PiCD and

Psychometric Properties of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 faceted Brief Form in a Brazilian Community Sample.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to verify the psychometric qualities of the PID-5-FBF in a community sample of Brazilian adults. The internal consistency of the facets and the internal structure of the dimensions were checked. In addition, we verified the correlations between the PID-5-FBF facets and domains with a five-factor model measure. METHODS: The sample of this study consists of the 774 Brazilian adults aged 18 to 73 years (mean 28.9±11.58) who answered the PID-5-FBF and BFI-2S. RESULTS: The alpha values were adequate. The internal structure was similar to the PID-5 origi

Psychometric properties of the affect integration inventory - short form in a sample of patients with personality disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Affect integration comprises the capacity to access and utilize the motivational and signal properties of affects. This capacity is essential for personal adjustment, mental health, and well-being. Affect integration is commonly operationalized through the Affect Integration Inventory. This study examines the psychometric properties of a short-form (AII-SF-42) of the instrument in a sample of patients with personality disorders (n = 87). METHODS: Analyses of internal-consistency reliability, along with standardized mean differences-, and associations between short- and long-form

The Hierarchical Structure and Predictive Validity of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 in Chinese Nonclinical Adolescents.

To evaluate the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) in Chinese nonclinical adolescents, a total of 1,442 Chinese middle school youths (Mage = 14.85, girls = 52.4%) were recruited in the present study. All the participants completed the full-length 220-item PID-5. Some participants (n = 1,003) were administered adolescents' social adjustment as a criterion measure at the same time and 236 participants took part in longitudinal assessment of the PID-5 and adolescents' social adjustment 6 months later. The Personality Assessment Inventory in U.S. Case Law: A Survey and Examination of Relevance to Legal Proceedings.

The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI), a popular measure of personality, psychopathology, and interpersonal functioning, has demonstrated utility to address various psycholegal questions. This case law review examines a large sample of randomly selected published U.S. case law decisions to ascertain how the PAI has been applied and considered by legal decision makers. The review indicates the instrument is popular in criminal and civil legal settings, particularly in preadjudication forensic mental health evaluations (e.g., competency to proceed) and cases considering social security disa

The Validity of the Personality Assessment Inventory-Adolescent in Assessing Callous-Unemotional Traits in At-Risk Adolescents.

This study examines the validity of the Personality Assessment Inventory-Adolescent (PAI-A; Morey) in assessing callous-unemotional (CU) traits within two independent samples of at-risk adolescents from a residential intervention program. The study tests the extent to which CU traits are represented within PAI-A scales with respect to empirically- or theoretically-related indicators, such as antisociality, aggression, low warmth, low social connectedness, and subdued internalizing psychopathology. The PAI-A substantive scales statistically accounted for an average of 55.0% of the variance in t

A Brief Measure of Narcissism Among Female Juvenile Delinquents and Community Youths: The Narcissistic Personality Inventory-13.

Research on narcissism has a long tradition, but there is limited knowledge regarding its application among female youth, especially for forensic samples of incarcerated female youth. Drawing on 377 female adolescents (103 selected from forensic settings and 274 selected from school settings) from Portugal, the current study is the first to examine simultaneously the psychometric properties of a brief version of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI-13) among females drawn from incarcerated and community settings. The results support the three-factor structure model of narcissism after t

[Testing the significance of psychic factors in the etiology of alopecia areata. II. Examination of personality by means of Eysenck's Personality Inventory (MPI) adapted by Choynowski].

We evaluated the role of psychic factors in the etiopathogenesis of alopecia areata on the basis of Eysenck's Personality Inventory adapted by Choynowski. 55 patients were tested (28 women and 27 men). The control group consisted of 50 volunteers. The analysis of the results showed that the neurotic type of personality was predominant in the group of patients (43.64%). Neurotic personality found in such a high percentage of the patients with alopecia areata may be an additional element in the group of psychic factors that possibly have some influence on the development of the disease.

Validation of the Affect Integration Inventory in a sample of patients with personality disorders: A cross-sectional study.

Affect integration is defined as the capacity to comprehend emotional experiences as meaningful and to convert this knowledge into well-adjusted motivation, communication and behavior. Thus, affect integration is considered essential for personal adjustment and well-being, and it has been operationalized through the Affect Integration Inventory. However, the validity of this questionnaire has been examined only in non-clinical respondents. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the questionnaire in a sample of patients with personality disorders

Reliability and factorial validity of long and brief versions of the inventory of personality organization in a Latvian sample.

The aim of this study was to examine the construct validity and reliability of long and brief versions (57 and 16 items) of the inventory of personality organization (IPO) in a Latvian nonclinical sample. The actuality of this study is dictated by the number of persons suffering from personality disorders, and the excessive need for reliable constructs for the assessment of personality in the normality-abnormality range. The total number of participants of the study was 1118, recruited in several subsamples, which were employed for the investigation of the factor structure, psychometric proper

Lift/transfer and technical aids for persons with severe acquired brain injury. An inventory of problems.

A questionnaire about assistive devices for lift and transfer was distributed to all individuals evaluated at the Solberga Project outpatient service unit, a regional centre for long-term follow-up of severely brain injured persons in the Greater Stockholm area. The target group was 60 severely brain injured adults, of whom 57 (30 women and 27 men) answered a questionnaire created by one of the authors. The causes of injury in the study population were trauma (n = 27), cerebrovascular accident (n = 19), anoxia (n = 10) and other (n = 1). Thirty-two persons were quadriplegic after the injury an

Examining Measurement Invariance in the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Brief Form Across Sexual and Gender Minority Status.

The Personality Inventory for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Brief Form (PID-5-BF) was developed with an assumption of invariance across sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals. This assumption has yet to be tested empirically. Using multigroup confirmatory factor analysis, we examined measurement invariance in the PID-5-BF across the SGM status in clinical (N = 1,174; n = 254 SGM) and nonclinical (N = 1,456; n = 151 SGM) samples. Measurement invariance was supported for the PID-5-BF structure, item thresholds, and factor loadings, but not at the ite

Assessing posttraumatic stress disorder symptom clusters with the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 in a forensic disability sample.

OBJECTIVE: Previous evidence indicates that scales from the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) family of instruments can measure self-reported posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptomology and differentiate symptom clusters, including in forensic disability assessments. However, limited research has examined assessment of PTSD symptoms with the MMPI-3, the most recent MMPI instrument. The goal of the current study was to identify the strongest MMPI-3 scale predictors of individual PTSD symptom clusters, measured via self-report. METHODS: Using a sample of 716 disability cl

We examined discrepancies in 81 patient-therapist dyads' alliance ratings early in treatment (3rd or 4th session) in relation to Personality Assessment Inventory clinical scales, subscales and global psychopathology. Results indicated that PAI global psychopathology (mean clinical elevation) and the scales of Aggression [AGG], Somatization [SOM], and Anxiety-Related Disorders [ARD] were significantly, negatively associated with an absolute difference of patient and therapist alliance ratings at Session 3. Higher initial scores on these clinical scales at treatment onset are associated with les
