Bis[(dialkylamino)cyclopropenimine]-Stabilized P(III) - and P(V) -Centered Dications.

The treatment of bis[(dialkylamino)cyclopropenimines] with dihalophosphines in the presence of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TMSOTf) to form diimine-stabilized P(III) -centered dications is reported. The structures of the new compounds were determined by using X-ray diffraction analysis and their donor abilities as ligands evaluated through electrochemical methods. Despite the two positive charges that they bear, these compounds depict intermediate behavior between that of phosphines and phosphites. The coordination of the [L2 PR](2+) moiety to Au(I) and Ag(I) is also reported. Eve

Use of natural-based commercial products as an alternative for providing bioprotection against verticillium wilt of olive.

BACKGROUND: As a result of the ineffectiveness of existing control methods against Verticillium dahliae, the causal agent of verticillium wilt of olive (Olea europaea; VWO), it is necessary to search for sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives, such as bioprotection by products based on plant extracts and other naturally synthesized compounds. Therefore, present study aimed to evaluate the effects of seven natural-based commercial products on the inhibition of mycelial growth, the germination of V. dahliae conidia and microsclerotia, and disease progression in olive plants (cv. Integration of chloroplast nucleic acid metabolism into the phosphate deprivation response in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

Cell survival depends on the cell's ability to acclimate to phosphorus (P) limitation. We studied the chloroplast ribonuclease polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase), which consumes and generates phosphate, by comparing wild-type Chlamydomonas reinhardtii cells with strains with reduced PNPase expression. In the wild type, chloroplast RNA (cpRNA) accumulates under P limitation, correlating with reduced PNPase expression. PNPase-deficient strains do not exhibit cpRNA variation under these conditions, suggesting that in the wild type PNPase limits cpRNA accumulation under P stress. PNPase levels

The Stereochemical Course of the α-Hydroxyphosphonate-Phosphate Rearrangement.

The phosphonate-phosphate rearrangement is an isomerisation of α-hydroxyphosphonates bearing electron-withdrawing substituents at the α-carbon atom. We studied the stereochemical course of this rearrangement with respect to phosphorus. A set of four diastereomeric α-hydroxyphosphonates was prepared by a Pudovik reaction from two diastereomeric cyclic phosphites. The hydroxyphosphonates were separated and rearranged with Et3 N as base. In analogy to trichlorphon, which was the first reported compound undergoing this rearrangement. All four hydroxyphosphonates could be rearranged to 2,2-dichloro

Diversity of Approaches to the Synthesis of Phosphoryl Guanidine Oligonucleotides.

Phosphoryl guanidines represent a class of internucleotide phosphate modifications introduced at the oxidation step of automated solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis. The procedures for obtaining these modifications are fully compatible with the standard reagent set and the protocols. Phosphoryl guanidine modifications enable not only altering the nature of the backbone but also introducing various substituents into the oligonucleotide structure. This study investigates the applicability of various alternative oxidation methods for the preparation of diverse representatives of phosphoryl guan

Influence of Phosphorus Structures and Their Oxidation States on Flame-Retardant Properties of Polyhydroxyurethanes.

This article focuses on the synthesis of polyhydroxyurethane (PHU) materials containing novel phosphorus flame retardants (FR). Four different phosphorus compounds were grafted onto cyclic carbonate: 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO), diethyl phosphite (DEP), diphenyl phosphite (DPP) and dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]dioxaphosphepine 6-oxide (BPPO). Thus, three novel phosphorus reactive cyclic carbonates which have never been reported so far were synthetized. Phosphorus FR containing PHU materials were characterized by FTIR to evidence the total conversion of the cyclic carbonate.

Gold(I)-catalyzed cascade cyclization of allenyl epoxides.

Cationic gold(I) phosphite catalysts activate allenes for epoxide cascade reactions. The system is tolerant of numerous functional groups (sulfones, esters, ethers, sulfonamides) and proceeds at room temperature in dichloromethane. The cyclization pathway is sensitive to the substitution pattern of the epoxide and the backbone structure of the A-ring. It is capable of producing medium-ring ethers, fused 6-5 bicyclic, and linked pyran-furan structures. The resulting cycloisomers are reminiscent of structures found in numerous polyether natural products.

A novel positive selection system for plant transformation based on microbial biuret hydrolase and biuret.

Conventional selectable marker genes (SMGs) in plant transformation, such as those conferring antibiotic resistance, raise biosafety concerns due to their permanent genomic integration. Alternative systems, such as the phosphite (Phi)/phosphite dehydrogenase (PtxD) system, have been developed to address these concerns. This system works by enabling transgenic plants to convert non-metabolizable, toxic Phi into usable orthophosphate (Pi), thereby providing both a detoxification mechanism and a positive growth advantage for selection. Building on this principle of detoxification-based positive s

Synthesis, Structural Determination, and Antioxidant Activities of Acyclic and Substituted Heterocyclic Phosphonates Linearly Linked 4-hydroxy-2(1H)-quinolinone.

The chemical reactivity of 3-[(E)-3-(dimethylamino)-2-propenoyl]-4-hydroxy-1-methy-2(1H)-quinolinone (1) towards some phosphorus reagents was studied. The enaminone 1 was cyclized into pyranoquinolinylphosphonate 2 via treatment with diethyl phosphite in basic medium. However, its reaction with triethoxy phosphonoacetate gave the substituted oxopyranylphosphonate 3. Using the same reaction conditions, both thioxopyridinylphosphonate 4 and oxopyranylphosphonate 5 were produced via a reaction of enaminone 1 with both diethyl 2-amino-2-thioxoethylphosphonate and diethyl vinylphosphonate, respecti

Insight into the Synthesis and Characterization of Organophosphorus-Based Bridged Triazine Compounds.

In this article, we report the synthesis of 2,4,6-substituted s-triazine-based organophosphorus compounds via a two-step process, which enables their production in high yields, and with a high purity as solids. In the first step, a Michaelis-Arbuzov rearrangement of cyanuric chloride with triethyl phosphite afforded 2,4,6-trisdiethoxyphosphinyl-1,3,5-triazine (HEPT). Subsequently, the nucleophilic substitution reaction on the triazine carbon was achieved, owing to the electron-withdrawing ability of the phosphonate groups. This characteristic of HEPT facilitated its derivatization with bi-func

Protein-Ribofuranosyl Interactions Activate Orotidine 5'-Monophosphate Decarboxylase for Catalysis.

The role of a global, substrate-driven, enzyme conformational change in enabling the extraordinarily large rate acceleration for orotidine 5'-monophosphate decarboxylase (OMPDC)-catalyzed decarboxylation of orotidine 5'-monophosphate (OMP) is examined in experiments that focus on the interactions between OMPDC and the ribosyl hydroxyl groups of OMP. The D37 and T100' side chains of OMPDC interact, respectively, with the C-3' and C-2' hydroxyl groups of enzyme-bound OMP. D37G and T100'A substitutions result in 1.4 kcal/mol increases in the activation barrier ΔG⧧ for catalysis of decarboxylation

On the reduction of S-alkyl-thionocarbonates (xanthates) with phosphorus compounds.

[reaction: see text] Reductive cleavage of the carbon-sulfur bond present in S-alkyl-thionocarbonates (xanthates) was achieved by high-yielding, tin-free radical reactions based on phosphorus reagents. The combination hypophosphorous acid/triethylamine/AIBN led to fast, efficient, and smooth formation of the alkane. Reduction with diethyl phosphite was sufficiently slow to permit sequential intermolecular addition of a 2-oxoalkyl xanthate onto an olefin followed by cleavage of the newly formed carbon-sulfur bond.

Synthesis of tertiary alkylphosphonate oligonucleotides through light-driven radical-polar crossover reactions.

Chemical modification of nucleotides can improve the metabolic stability and target specificity of oligonucleotide therapeutics, and alkylphosphonates have been employed as charge-neutral replacements for naturally-occurring phosphodiester backbones in these compounds. However, at present, the alkyl moieties that can be attached to phosphorus atoms in these compounds are limited to methyl groups or primary/secondary alkyls, and such alkylphosphonate moieties can degrade during oligonucleotide synthesis. The present work demonstrates the tertiary alkylation of the phosphorus atoms of phosphites

A new method for the synthesis of α-aminoalkylidenebisphosphonates and their asymmetric phosphonyl-phosphinyl and phosphonyl-phosphinoyl analogues.

A convenient approach has been developed to α-aminoalkylidenebisphosphonates and their asymmetric phosphonyl-phosphinyl and phosphonyl-phosphinoyl analogues by α-phosphonylation, α-phosphinylation or α-phosphinoylation of 1-(N-acylamino)alkylphosphonates, that, in turn, are easily accessible from N-acyl-α-amino acids. Effective electrophilic activation of the α-position of 1-(N-acetylamino)alkylphosphonates was achieved by electrochemical α-methoxylation of these compounds in methanol, mediated with NaCl, followed by displacement of the methoxy group with triphenylphosphonium tetrafluoroborate

Recoverable Phospha-Michael Additions Catalyzed by a 4-N,N-Dimethylaminopyridinium Saccharinate Salt or a Fluorous Long-Chained Pyridine: Two Types of Reusable Base Catalysts.

Phospha-Michael addition, which is the addition reaction of a phosphorus-based nucleophile to an acceptor-substituted unsaturated bond, certainly represents one of the most versatile and powerful tools for the formation of P-C bonds, since many different electrophiles and P nucleophiles can be combined with each other. This offers the possibility to access many diversely functionalized products. In this work, two kinds of basic pyridine-based organo-catalysts were used to efficiently catalyze phospha-Michael addition reactions, the 4-N,N-dimethylaminopyridinium saccharinate (DMAP·Hsac) salt an

Reductive Cleavage of C-X or N-S Bonds Catalyzed by Super Organoreductant CBZ6.

The reductive cleavage of C(Ar)-X bonds is the key step for the cross coupling of Ar-X with other groups. In this work, under the irradiation of 407 nm LEDs using sodium formate as reductant and thiol as hydrogen atom transfer agent, a variety of (hetero)aryl chlorides, bromides, and iodides could be reduced to corresponding (hetero)arenes. The key intermediates, aryl radicals, could be trapped by either hydrogen, phosphite, or borates. The same reduction conditions can be extended to the deprotection of sulfonamides.

Prebiotic Syntheses of Organophosphorus Compounds from Reduced Source of Phosphorus in Non-Aqueous Solvents.

Reduced-oxidation-state phosphorus (reduced P, hereafter) compounds were likely available on the early Earth via meteorites or through various geologic processes. Due to their reactivity and high solubility, these compounds could have played a significant role in the origin of various organophosphorus compounds of biochemical significance. In the present work, we study the reactions between reduced P compounds and their oxidation products, with the three nucleosides (uridine, adenosine, and cytidine), with organic alcohols (glycerol and ethanolamine), and with the tertiary ammonium organic com
