A Novel Low-Molecular-Weight Glucomannogalactan from Phyllanthus emblica L.: Structural Characterization and Multitarget Effect in Regulating Glycolipid Metabolism Disorder.

While pectin from Phyllanthus emblica L. has already been studied, the nonpectic polysaccharides remain largely unexplored. Here, a novel low-molecular-weight glucomannogalactan (PEP) was isolated and structurally characterized as a backbone of 1,4-linked Galp and Manp residues, with a postulated branching architecture involving 1,6-Manp side chains and 1,3-/1,6-Glcp branches. Bioactivity assessment demonstrated that PEP inhibited α-amylase and promoted the growth of glycolipid metabolism-associated beneficial bacteria. Its fermentation metabolites from Bacteroides significantly ameliorated in

Recent advances in the potential of Phyllanthus emblica L. and its related foods for combating metabolic diseases through methylglyoxal trapping.

Methylglyoxal (MG) serves as the primary precursor for the nonenzymatic glycation of proteins and DNA, leading to advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Regular intake of dietary MG is strongly correlated with low-grade inflammation, potentially accelerating the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, cancers, liver diseases, Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular diseases, aging, and bone loss. Although pharmaceutical agents (pimagedine and candesartan) have been developed to inhibit MG formation, they often come with serious side effects (nausea, diarrhea, headache, ga

Antiinflammatory and antiallodynic actions of the lignan niranthin isolated from Phyllanthus amarus. Evidence for interaction with platelet activating factor receptor.

Previous studies have shown that the extracts obtained from Phyllanthus amarus, and some of the lignans isolated from it, exhibit pronounced antiinflammatory properties. In the present study, we have assessed whether the antiinflammatory actions of these lignans can be mediated by interaction with platelet activating factor (PAF) receptor or interference with the action of this lipid. The local administration of nirtetralin, phyltetralin or niranthin (30 nmol/paw), similar to WEB2170 (a PAF receptor antagonist, 30 nmol/paw), significantly inhibited PAF-induced paw oedema formation in mice.
