Impact of COVID-19 on pornography use: Evidence from big data analyses.

INTRODUCTION: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to radical changes in social distancing awareness and affected social relationships. Owing to large-scale lockdown, home quarantine and social distancing requirements, it was anticipated that sexual activities would be severely impacted. However, retrospective self-report studies showed that pornography use and autoerotism increased during the pandemic. AIM: This study used big-data databases available on the Internet to investigate factors that modulated pornography use during the pandemic. METHODS: Daily relative search volume (RSV)

A simulated annealing with graph-based search for the social-distancing problem in enclosed areas during pandemics.

During the pandemic, decision-makers offered many preventive policies to reduce the negative effects of the pandemic. The social distance rule in enclosed areas was implemented by educational institutions in any countries. In this study, we deal with the problem of assigning students to seats by considering the social distancing constraint and with objective of maximizing the total distance among the students. This problem is found to be similar to the Maximum Diversity Problem (MDP) in the literature. We name this new problem as Maximum Diversity Social Distancing problem (MDPs). A simulated

Explaining COVID-19 dynamics through user activity data from digital platforms with Yandex's self-isolation index as a case study.

Social-distancing measures were among the very few available policy responses to the initial outbreak of COVID-19, and they remain an important tool for containing recurring wavers of this and possible future pandemics. However, policies aiming at limiting the intensity of people-to-people contacts incur substantial socio-economic costs while their effectiveness varies over time and across locations. Having a robust way of measuring the level of people-to-people contacts and monitoring compliance with social-distancing policies would greatly aid governments in better calibrating their response

Social Media Images as an Emerging Tool to Monitor Adherence to COVID-19 Public Health Guidelines: Content Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Innovative surveillance methods are needed to assess adherence to COVID-19 recommendations, especially methods that can provide near real-time or highly geographically targeted data. Use of location-based social media image data (eg, Instagram images) is one possible approach that could be explored to address this problem. OBJECTIVE: We seek to evaluate whether publicly available near real-time social media images might be used to monitor COVID-19 health policy adherence. METHODS: We collected a sample of 43,487 Instagram images in New York from February 7 to April 11, 2020, from

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Associated Societal Restrictions on People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH): A Qualitative Interview Study with PEH and Service Providers in the UK.

People experiencing homelessness (PEH) faced unique challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including changes to accommodation availability, societal restrictions impacting access to essentials like food, and services moving to online and remote access. This in-depth qualitative research aims to add to the existing, but limited research exploring how the pandemic affected PEH. 33 semi-structured qualitative interviews (22 with PEH during the pandemic and 11 with homelessness sector service providers) were undertaken in the United Kingdom between April 2021 and January 2022. Interviews were au

Coping style and memory specificity in adolescents and adults with histories of child sexual abuse.

Individuals with histories of childhood trauma may adopt a nonspecific memory retrieval strategy to avoid unpleasant and intrusive memories. In a sample of 93 adolescents and adults with or without histories of child sexual abuse (CSA), we tested the hypothesis that nonspecific memory retrieval is related to an individual's general tendency to use avoidant (i.e., distancing) coping as a personal problem-solving or coping strategy, especially in victims of CSA. We also examined age differences and other individual differences (e.g., trauma-related psychopathology) as predictors of nonspecific m

Adherence to COVID-19 Preventive Measures in Mozambique: Two Consecutive Online Surveys.

We assessed adherence to government recommendations implemented shortly after the introduction of COVID-19 in Mozambique in March 2020, through two online cross-sectional surveys in April and June 2020. We quantified adherence to preventive measures by a composite score comprising of five measures: physical distancing, face mask use, hand hygiene, cough hygiene, and avoidance of touching the face. 3770 and 1115 persons participated in the first and second round respectively. Wearing face masks, regular handwashing and cough hygiene all reached compliance rates of over 90% while physical distan

COVID-19 and overdose prevention: Challenges and opportunities for clinical practice in housing settings.

The global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will exacerbate the negative health outcomes associated with the concurrent opioid overdose crisis in North America. COVID-19 brings unique challenges for practitioners who provide opioid use disorder (OUD) care. The majority of overdose deaths in the Canadian province of British Columbia occur in housing environments. Some supportive housing environments in Vancouver, British Columbia, have on-site primary care and substance use disorder treatment clinics. Some of these housing environments also include supervised consumption services. These hous

Nationwide Lockdown, Population Density, and Financial Distress Brings Inadequacy to Manage COVID-19: Leading the Services Sector into the Trajectory of Global Depression.

The service industry provides distributive services, producer services, personal services, and social services. These services largely breakdowns due to restrictions on border movements, confined travel and transportation services, a decline in international tourists' visitation, nationwide lockdowns, and maintaining social distancing in the population. Although these measures are highly needed to contain coronavirus, it decreases economic and financial activities in a country, which requires smart solutions to globally subsidize the services sector. The study used different COVID-19 measures,
