Efficacy of the power centering for seniors intervention on physical functional performance in older community-dwelling adults: a secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial.

Maintaining physical function and mobility is essential for older adults to preserve independence, reduce fall risk, and minimise dependence on care. "Power Centering for Seniors" (PCS) is a mindfulness-based, proprioceptive training programme combining Tai Chi and Qi Gong with functional strength and balance practices. This study assessed the efficacy of the PCS programme on physical functional performance in older community-dwelling adults. The study included 57 participants aged 70 years or older, randomised into an intervention group (IG) or a control group (CG). The PCS intervention consi

Relationship Between Sural Nerve Function, Physical Function, and the Ability to Perform Activities of Daily Living in Hospitalized Elderly Patients With Proximal Femoral Fractures: A Prospective Observational Study.

Background Falls in older adults, specifically causing proximal femoral fractures, greatly affect daily functioning and life expectancy. Peripheral neuropathy is an established risk factor for falls. However, the relationship between nerve conduction velocity (CV), action potential (AP), and fall risk or functional recovery after rehabilitation is not well understood. This study aimed to clarify whether sural nerve function can predict fall risk and functional improvement in activities of daily living. Methods We assessed elderly patients hospitalized with proximal femoral fractures in a conva

Associations between physical performance and executive function in older adults with mild cognitive impairment: gait speed and the timed "up & go" test.

BACKGROUND: Older adults with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) are at higher risk for developing Alzheimer disease. Physical performance decline on gait and mobility tasks in conjunction with executive dysfunction has implications for accelerated functional decline, disability, and institutionalization in sedentary older adults with aMCI. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to examine whether performance on 2 tests commonly used by physical therapists (usual gait speed and Timed "Up & Go" Test [TUG]) are associated with performance on 2 neuropsychological tests of executive fun

Effects of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound on recovery of physical impairments, functional performance and quality of life after total knee arthroplasty: Protocol for a quasi-experimental study.

INTRODUCTION: The presence of significant pain and swelling during the acute stage following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) may limit the patients' ability to cooperate in intensive physiotherapy interventions. Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound is one of the modalities that can be used for acute pain and swelling management. However, only one study investigated the effect of this modality in patients with TKA. There is limited documentation of the effects of combining low-intensity pulsed ultrasound in TKA rehabilitation in the recovery of physical impairments and how these influence the recovery
