We compared in a prospective, randomised, investigator-blinded trial, the efficacy and tolerability of a new synergised-pyrethrins thermo-labile foam (F) formulation with permethrin 5 % cream (P) in 40 patients with scabies. Clinical evolution of scabetic lesions (Clinical grading = CG) and itching intensity (IS) were assessed, using a 5-point semi-quantitative score, at baseline, at week 2 and 4. Subchronic treatment with phenobarbital induces renal cortical microsomal monooxygenase activities (e.g., ethoxycoumarin O-deethylase, benzphetamine N-demethylase and arylhydrocarbon hydroxylase) and cytochrome P-450 content in rabbits but not in rats. In this study, in the program of the special study module No: 74, 68 students, who attended the Izmir Konak Yüzbaşi Serafettin Primary School were examined for Pediculus humanus capitis in March 2005. Twenty female students had pediculosis capitis, but no male students were infested. The infestation rate in the girls was 55.5%. Positive cases were treated and 35.0% were found to be cured during a control performed one week later.

Single application of Nix (permethrin 1% creme rinse) and Rid were compared as treatments for Pediculosis capitis in 435 patients, the majority of whom were children. Seven days after the treatment, 98 per cent of the permethrin-treated and 85 per cent of the Rid-treated patients were free of lice. At 14 days, prior to nit removal, 96 per cent of the permethrin-treated and 62 per cent of the Rid-treated patients were still lice free. Seventeen (7 per cent) permethrin-treated and 32 (16 per cent) Rid-treated patients were reported to have adverse experiences.

Cultures on autoclaved maize of the phytopathogenic fungus, Drechslera campanulata, were incorporated into diets and fed to male inbred BDIX rats.
