Restless legs syndrome in hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis: a propensity score-matched comparison.

BACKGROUND: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is highly prevalent among end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing dialysis, causing significant sleep disruption. Whether dialysis modality influences RLS occurrence remains controversial. This study compared RLS prevalence, severity, and sleep outcomes between hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients using propensity score matching. METHODS: From April to October 2024, 396 ESRD patients (173 HD, 223 PD) were enrolled. RLS was diagnosed using IRLSSG 2014 criteria. Sleep quality was assessed using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index

Multifaceted benefits of regular hemoperfusion in maintenance hemodialysis: A propensity score-matched study.

Hemoperfusion (HP) is proposed to remove middle molecules inadequately cleared by conventional dialysis, yet its comprehensive benefits across multiple uremic complications remain underexplored. In this propensity score-matched retrospective cohort study of 184 maintenance hemodialysis patients, we compared outcomes between 35 patients receiving regular weekly HP and 35 receiving irregular HP (⩽3 times/year) over 2 years. The regular HP group achieved similar blood pressure control (80.0% vs 74.3%) but with significantly lower antihypertensive medication burden (score: 1.9 vs 3.1, p < 0.001).

Donor-Recipient Matching for Kidney Transplantation Using Uncertainty Estimation in Generalized Propensity Score.

Kidney donor-recipient matching is a complex process influenced by various clinical and demographic factors, requiring advanced techniques for effective allocation. This study explores the use of Generalized Propensity Score (GPS) modeling with uncertainty estimation and Sufficient Dimensionality Reduction (SDR) methods to enhance matching strategies. We evaluated several dimensionality reduction techniques using Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Pearson Correlation (PC). The regression method (MLP) showed the best performance with the lowest RMSE (1163) and highest PC (0.23) with single dime

Percutaneous coronary intervention for chronic total occlusion in octogenarians: a propensity score study.

Feasibility and efficacy of complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the elderly, a more frail population due to more comorbidities is incompletely understood. We therefore set out to compare success and complication rate of PCI for chronic total occlusion (CTO) in octogenarians, in comparison to non-octogenarians. Data from 267 patients (58 patients over 80 years of age and 209 under 80 years of age) who had undergone CTO PCI were analyzed. To compare the results we calculated the propensity score and used inverse probability of treatment weighting. We evaluated demographic, clinic
