Fermented Maesil (Prunus mume) with probiotics inhibits development of atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions in NC/Nga mice.

Maesil (Prunus mume Siebold & Zucc.), a potential source of free radical scavengers and inhibitor of pro-inflammatory mediators, is used in traditional Korean medical preparations as a remedy for skin disorders as have probiotics. The action of a probiotic fermented Maesil preparation on the development of atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions was determined in a NC/Nga mouse model as an initial step towards the development of a therapeutic feed supplement for use in dogs. Continuous ingestion of the experimental feed markedly inhibited the development of the AD-like skin lesions, as eviden

PavWRKY30 mediates light-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis to regulate fruit coloration and quality in sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.).

Fruit coloration, a critical determinant of sweet cherry marketability, is primarily governed by light-induced anthocyanin accumulation, yet the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive genome-wide analysis of the WRKY transcription factor family in sweet cherry (Prunus avium), identifying 54 PavWRKY genes that were phylogenetically classified into three major groups (I, II, and III). Comparative and syntenic analyses revealed that segmental duplication events primarily drove the expansion of this gene family, with strong coll

Mannose-modified Prunus persica kernel protein nanoparticles loading baicalin coated with Lycium barbarum polysaccharide for ulcerative colitis treatment.

Baicalin (Ba) is a promising anti-inflammatory agent for treating ulcerative colitis (UC), but its efficacy is constrained by poor solubility and colon-targeting efficiency. Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP), an anionic polysaccharide, not only restores gut microbiota dysbiosis but also exhibits excellent upper gastrointestinal stability and biocompatibility, making it a candidate for developing colon-targeted carriers. In this paper, the polymeric nanoparticles (Ba@MP/LBP NPs) were constructed using LBP, mannose, and Prunus persica kernel protein (PKP) for targeted delivery of baicalin to

[Gastroprotective and antidepressant-like effect of plum pectin (Prunus domestica L.) under water-immobilization stress in laboratory mice].

Stress effects activate the processes of free radical oxidation in the organism, lead to hyper production of reactive radicals and oxidative stress, provoking the development of an inflammatory process in various parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Pectin polysaccharides together with the enzyme components of the endogenous antioxidant system contribute to the elimination of the imbalance between prooxidants and antioxidants in the tissues of stressed animals and have a gastroprotective and antidepressant-like effect. The aim of the research was to evaluate the gastroprotective, antioxidant a

Whole-genome analysis guided molecular mechanism of cyanogenic glucoside degradation by yeast isolated from Prunus mume fruit syrup.

Consumption of fermented Prunus mume fruit (maesil) sugar syrup raise a health concern due to the presence of the cyanogenic glucoside amygdalin. The goal of the present study was to investigate the amygdalin degradation potential and genome profile of the native microbes found in maesil syrup. The microbial profile analysis revealed that yeast is the predominant microorganism native to maesil syrup and that the isolated yeast cells showed a remarkable potential for amygdalin reduction (99.7%). Moreover, the reduction in amygdalin was inversely proportional to the growth of the isolated yeast.

Montmorency Tart cherries (Prunus cerasus L.) modulate vascular function acutely, in the absence of improvement in cognitive performance.

Cerebral blood volume and metabolism of oxygen decline as part of human ageing, and this has been previously shown to be related to cognitive decline. There is some evidence to suggest that polyphenol-rich foods can play an important role in delaying the onset or halting the progression of age-related health disorders such as CVD and Alzheimer's disease and to improve cognitive function. In the present study, an acute, placebo-controlled, double-blinded, cross-over, randomised Latin-square design study with a washout period of at least 14 d was conducted on twenty-seven, middle-aged (defined a

Advanced malignant melanoma responds to Prunus mume Sieb. Et Zucc (Ume) extract: Case report and in vitro study.

Malignant melanoma (MM) is an aggressive chemoresistant skin cancer characterized by rapid metastasis and a poor prognosis. Therefore, the development of innovative effective therapies is critical. MK615 is an extract from the Japanese apricot Prunus mume Sieb. Et Zucc (Ume). At a neutral pH, it contains natural chemical substances such as triterpenoids that exert anti-neoplastic effects in several types of cancers. We found that in patients with advanced MM, MK615 dramatically suppressed the cutaneous in-transit metastasis of the disease. Pre- and post-treatment comparison of tumors showed th

Targeting ParPMC Susceptibility Hubs in Prunus: eEF1A as a Conserved Mediator of Plum Pox Virus Infection in Nicotiana benthamiana.

Sharka, caused by Potyvirus plumpoxi (plum pox virus, PPV), is the most destructive viral disease affecting Prunus species worldwide. Two MATH domain-containing genes, ParPMC1 and ParPMC2, have been identified in apricot as host susceptibility factors required for PPV infection, but their molecular function remains unclear. Here, we investigated ParPMC functions by identifying their interacting partners and assessing their contribution to viral replication and movement. Yeast two-hybrid screening of PPV-infected apricot tissues revealed 13 ParPMC interactors involved in defence and stress resp

In vitro and in vivo cysticidal activity of extracts and isolated flavanone from the bark of Prunus serotina: A bio-guided study.

Currently, neurocysticercosis treatment involves two drugs: albendazole and praziquantel; however, their efficacy is suboptimal and new cysticidal drugs are needed. The present paper reports the cysticidal activity of extracts of the bark from Prunus serotina against Taenia crassiceps cysts and the isolation and identification of the main components of the most active extract. Results showed that all extracts displayed in vitro cysticidal activity (EC50=17.9-88.5μg/mL), being the methanolic the most active and selective. Also, methanolic extract exhibited in vivo efficacy at 300mg/kg which was

The active site of hydroxynitrile lyase from Prunus amygdalus: modeling studies provide new insights into the mechanism of cyanogenesis.

The FAD-dependent hydroxynitrile lyase from almond (Prunus amygdalus, PaHNL) catalyzes the cleavage of R-mandelonitrile into benzaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid. Catalysis of the reverse reaction-the enantiospecific formation of alpha-hydroxynitriles--is now widely utilized in organic syntheses as one of the few industrially relevant examples of enzyme-mediated C-C bond formation. Starting from the recently determined X-ray crystal structure, systematic docking calculations with the natural substrate were used to locate the active site of the enzyme and to identify amino acid residues involved i

Phloem Metabolites of Prunus Sp. Rather than Infection with Candidatus Phytoplasma Prunorum Influence Feeding Behavior of Cacopsylla pruni Nymphs.

Phytoplasmas are specialized small bacteria restricted to the phloem tissue and spread by hemipterans feeding on plant sieve tube elements. As for many other plant pathogens, it is known that phytoplasmas alter the chemistry of their hosts. Most research on phytoplasma-plant interactions focused on the induction of plant volatiles and phytohormones. Little is known about the influence of phytoplasma infections on the nutritional composition of phloem and consequences on vector behavior and development. The plum psyllid Cacopsylla pruni transmits 'Candidatus Phytoplasma prunorum', the causing a
