This article presents an overview of an online education offering to improve standards of practice for nurses intervening with tobacco-dependent mentally ill populations. Designed as a pilot study and guided by the theory of reasoned action framework, the pretest-posttest educational program was conducted to examine attitudes and beliefs, knowledge, and intentions to integrate tobacco cessation interventions into practice. Although positive attitudes and beliefs were demonstrated, knowledge gaps continued to exist after the online program. Strengths and challenges of the online education offer

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT: If women suffer from postpartum psychosis, treatment in a specialist facility like a psychiatric mother-baby unit is recommended and should focus on the maternal health, mother-baby outcomes and the care for the next of kin. The role of mental health nurses on a mother-baby unit is essential but challenging, given the complex problems and care needs of the patient, the baby and family members. To date, very little evidence about effective nursing interventions for patients with postpartum psychosis is available.
WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE: This pa

This one-year follow-up study determined the incidence and risk factors of workplace violence against nursing staff in a psychiatric hospital. The cohort members had a website to report events whenever they came across violence. A total of 971 events were reported. The incidence rates of physical violence, verbal abuse, bullying/mobbing, sexual harassment, and racial harassment were 1.7, 3.7, 0.2, 0.3, and 0 per staff-year, respectively. Young age, female sex, lower education, shorter duration of employment, and high level of anxiety of staff seemed to be the determinants of violence. Pre-plac

INTRODUCTION: Psychiatric Mental Health Registered Nurses (PMH-RNs) are the largest group of healthcare providers working within inpatient mental health settings. Despite longstanding concerns about the emotional demands and safety of nurses practicing in these settings, few studies have examined associations between organizational factors and nurse job outcomes among inpatient PMH-RNS.
AIM/QUESTION: To examine burnout, job dissatisfaction and intent to leave among PMH-RNs employed in inpatient psychiatric units and how these job outcomes are associated with the quality of their nurse work en

Background/Objectives: Nurses may support offense-related self-reflection through practices that extend beyond formal group programs and dedicated offense-focused interviews; however, the scope of such support remains unclear. In this study, we described the range of nursing practices that nurses in Japanese forensic psychiatric inpatient settings perceived as supporting offense-related self-reflection beyond these formal interventions. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted using individual semi-structured interviews with 13 nurses from six hospitals between May and November 2

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate a suicide prevention program combining awareness training and peer support among university students.
METHODS: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design with an embedded qualitative component was conducted with 63 university students. The intervention was structured within a psychiatric nursing framework informed by Peplau's Interpersonal Relations Theory. The seven-week program comprised a baseline assessment in week 1, five weekly group-based peer support sessions (weeks 2-6), and suicide prevention awareness training followed by post

BACKGROUND: Infanticide, defined as the killing of a child under 1 year of age by their mother, is a rare and complex offence. In Canada and many other jurisdictions, infanticide is a gender-specific legal offence that can only be committed by women. The phenomenon is shaped by strongly gendered social and legal attitudes that influence perceptions of women convicted of infanticide.
AIM: To examine forensic psychiatric nurses' perspectives on the moral subjectivities of mothers convicted of infanticide.
METHODS: A critical discourse analysis, informed by feminist and poststructuralist theory

The growing demand for mental health services in the United States has intensified pressure to expand the psychiatric workforce, prompting some systems to consider deploying nonpsychiatric nurse practitioners (NPs), such as family, adult-gerontology, and pediatric NPs, to independently staff psychiatry-only practices. This essay argues that such a strategy is unsafe, unethical, and inconsistent with advanced practice nursing standards. Psychiatric-mental health NPs receive specialized training in psychopathology, advanced assessment, psychopharmacology, and psychotherapy that generalist NPs do

BACKGROUND: There is increasing public and professional awareness of autism spectrum disorders with early recognition, diagnosis and interventions that are known to improve prognosis. Poor knowledge about childhood autism among paediatric and psychiatric nurses who are members of multidisciplinary teams that care for such children may be a major barrier to early interventions that could improve quality of life and prognosis in childhood autism. Factors that influence knowledge about childhood autism among these nurses are not known. This study assessed knowledge about childhood autism among pa

PURPOSE: To clarify the relationship of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) to workplace physical violence (WPV) against nurses by psychiatric patients.
METHODS: A Web-based WHOQOL-BREF was used to assess HRQoL and an intranet Workplace Violence Report System was used to record WPV incidents in order to design prospective longitudinal repeat measures over a period of 12 months, as well as using a subject-domain approach to detect any significant association between HRQoL and WPV.
RESULTS: A total of 129 physical violence events were reported, and the WHOQOL-BREF was completed a total of 8

INTRODUCTION: Workplace stress is prevalent in psychiatric nursing, with compassion fatigue significantly challenging nurses' well-being and care quality. Effective prevention requires identifying at-risk nurses using validated assessment frameworks. The contemporary approach to workforce mental health emphasises proactive, targeted interventions tailored to individual risk profiles. Nurses play a central role in sustaining therapeutic environments, and their psychological resources are critical to this process. However, the heterogeneity of compassion fatigue among psychiatric nurses remains

BACKGROUND: Jordan's population of older adults is growing due to improved health care and lifestyle, but the country has limited mental health care resources, causing challenges for the health care system. Reminiscence is a point of nursing intervention and a way for psychiatric nurses to help people improve their mental health by expanding their personal boundaries (self-transcendence).
AIMS: The study aimed to examine the mediating effects of self-transcendence on the relationship between reminiscence functions and death anxiety in a sample of Jordanian older adults. Psychiatric nurses can
