The goal was to enrich current understanding of mental health conceptualization and communication by exploring the heterogeneity of common idioms of distress. Interviews with community members (N = 47) explored meanings and perceived ca

However, the related studies in the literature focus predominantly on psychological distress among nurses, physicians, and administrative staff during the pandemic and its factors of influence, with few studies exploring this issue in nurses during the postpandemic period.

Many of these service members have returned with medical and psychological illnesses, some of which have proved complex and resistant to treatment. One notable constellation of symptoms is post-deployment respiratory illness, which has become a focus of research and policy efforts. The present study sought to examine the impact of post-deployment psychological distress on respiratory symptom severi

Psychological Distress Profiles of Young Adults With Vulnerable Narcissism Traits.

The current study hypothesizes a mediating role for shame in the association between vulnerable narcissism (VN) and depressive and social anxiety symptoms. A sample of 600 undergraduates was administered psychometrically sound self-reports to assess the study variables. Structural Equation Modeling supported the mediating effect of shame in the association between VN and depressive symptoms, irrespective of the way VN was assessed (i.e., Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale [HSNS] or Pathological Narcissism Inventory). Conversely, shame did not mediate the association with social anxiety when VN wa

Given limited longitudinal research with caregivers (CGs, n = 122) of spouses with Alzheimer disease, and demographically matched noncaregivers (NCGs, n = 117), we compared these groups on psychological distress (anxiety, depression), burden, and health behaviors over 2 years. Analyses examined group differences in relationships of micronutrient recommended daily allowances (RDAs) and physical activity considering hours of care, psychological distress, and burden. Participants were measured and assessed on whether they met micronutrient intake and physical activity totaled over an average week

However, little is known about the course and predictors of psychological distress among patients treated with curative intent. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the prevalence, course and predictors of anxiety and depression in patients operated for oesophageal cancer, from prior to surgery to 12 months post-operatively. METHODS: A prospective cohort of patients with oesophageal cancer (n = 218) were recruited from one high-volume specialist oesophago-gastric treatment centre (St Thomas' Hospit

Psychological distress related to BRCA testing in ovarian cancer patients.

An increasing demand for genetic testing has moved the procedure from highly selected at-risk individuals, now also including cancer patients for treatment associated testing. The heritable fraction of ovarian cancer is more than 10%, and our department has offered BRCA testing to such patients irrespective of family history since 2002. This study examined potential psychosocial distress associated with this procedure using The Multidimensional Impact of Cancer Risk Assessment (MICRA) questionnaire and other patient-rated generic distress instruments. Patients were divided into four groups acc
