News Media Reporting On Medication Treatment For Opioid Use Disorder Amid The Opioid Epidemic.

Medications such as methadone and buprenorphine are effective treatments for opioid use disorder (OUD), but levels of use remain low. Given the importance of the news media as a source of health information for the public and its role in shaping knowledge about these medications, we examined reporting on OUD medication treatment amid the opioid crisis. Analyzing news media reporting can provide insight into the public dialogue around this issue. Standardized search terms were used to query high-circulation/viewership US news sources in the period 2007-16 for stories about OUD medications. News

Social Inequalities in Child Development: Analysis of Low-Birth-Weight Trends in Brazil, 2010-2020.

INTRODUCTION: Low birth weight (LBW) is a global issue prevalent in low-income countries. Economic assessments of interventions to reduce this burden are crucial to guide health policies. However, there is a relative scarcity of research that illustrates the magnitude of LBW by country and region to support the design of public policies. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the temporal trend of fetal growth in newborns in Brazil between 2010 and 2020. METHODS: A time series study was conducted using data from the Live Births Information System (SINASC), which is managed by the Department

Identification of candidate biomarkers for NAFLD through bioinformatics analysis and machine learning based on circulating insulin degradation-associated genes.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become as a metabolic disorder posing a significant threat to public health, with no presently available effective treatment. Circulating insulin degradation constitutes a pivotal process regulating insulin concentration and biological activity in the bloodstream, and its capacity is closely associated with hyperinsulinaemia and hepatic lipid accumulation. Hepatic lipid accumulation represents a key pathophysiological mechanism in NAFLD. Therefore, targeting the circulating insulin degradation pathway may represent a significant therapeutic opportu

A Unified Contrastive Learning Framework for Neurological Disease Diagnosis from VGRF and IMU Gait Data.

Accurate early diagnosis of neurological diseases (NDs) can effectively facilitate intervention and help with neural healthcare. While wearable informatics like Vertical Ground Reaction Force (VGRF) and Inertial Measurement Unit(IMU) offer complementary gait insights, a key challenge is fusing these heterogeneous modalities, especially when the data are unaligned and scarce. In this study, our primary contribution lies in proposing a novel contrastive learning framework designed specifically to unify VGRF and IMU gait data for ND classification. This framework learns a shared representation sp

Hybrid prevalence estimation: Method to improve intervention coverage estimations.

Delivering excellent health services requires accurate health information systems (HIS) data. Poor-quality data can lead to poor judgments and outcomes. Unlike probability surveys, which are representative of the population and carry accuracy estimates, HIS do not, but in many countries the HIS is the primary source of data used for administrative estimates. However, HIS are not structured to detect gaps in service coverage and leave communities exposed to unnecessary health risks. Here we propose a method to improve informatics by combining HIS and probability survey data to construct a hybri
