The midface sling: a new technique to rejuvenate the midface.

In the early 1990s, the midface became the focus of facial rejuvenation, and various techniques effected elevation by plicating, or on, the midface. Recent analyses of facial aging demonstrate that selective ptosis of the midfacial tissues lateral to the nasolabial fold results in an infraorbital hollow and deepening of the nasolabial fold. Therefore, the authors propose that the midface, from the lower portion of the cheek mass, will result in superior midface positioning. Since 1996, the authors have elevated the midface in select patients by placing a sling of prosthetic (Gore-Tex) or autog

Causes of hair loss and the developments in hair rejuvenation.

Hair is considered to be a major component of an individual's general appearance. The psychological impact of hair loss results in a measurably detrimental change in self-esteem and is associated with images of reduced worth. It is not surprising that both men and women find hair loss a stressful experience. Genetic hair loss is the major problem affecting men and by the age of 50, up to 50% will be affected. Initial attempts to regenerate the lost hair have centred on applying a topical solution of between 2% to 5% minoxidil; however, the results proved disappointing. Recently, finasteride, a

The central oval of the face: tridimensional endoscopic rejuvenation.

The central oval of the face is a distinct anatomic and aesthetic unit. Early signs of aging and advanced features of aging are manifested primarily in this unit. Standard face lift techniques are ineffective in treating this area. Intermediate layer (sub-SMAS, [superior musculo-aponeurotic system], intermuscular, etc.) and deep layer (subperiosteal) techniques were developed to treat this rather difficult part of the face. All variations of the intermediate layer technique have negative features, primarily safety issues related to potential nerve-muscle injury and protracted facial edema. Ear

Rejuvenation of the skin surface: chemical peel and dermabrasion.

Chemical peel and dermabrasion are traditional, well-proven methods for the rejuvenation of the skin. The medium-depth trichloroacetic acid peel and the deep phenol peel offer distinct advantages and disadvantages and are discussed in detail in this article. The management of complications associated with both peel techniques is also discussed. Regional dermabrasion is an effective adjunct to facial rejuvenative surgery, such as face lift and blepharoplasty. Full-face dermabrasion and spot or local dermabrasion are most often used in the treatment of facial scarring. The technique of dermabras

A Novel Synergistic Multilayer Nanofat Technique for Facial Rejuvenation.

BACKGROUND: Nanofat is gaining traction in facial rejuvenation as a minimally invasive regenerative approach with short downtime and natural, sustained results. Despite growing evidence supporting its biological effects on multiple aspects of facial aging, its use remains limited. Non-surgical facial rejuvenation primarily relies on injectables, chemical peels, and energy-based procedures. However, most of these approaches address only selected aspects of aging and often require repeated treatments. This retrospective case series presents a novel synergistic multilayer nanofat protocol designe

How I Do It: Surgical Face and Neck Rejuvenation.

BACKGROUND: Facelift and necklift remain the gold standard for surgical facial rejuvenation despite continued advances in nonsurgical aesthetic treatments. Modern facial rejuvenation has evolved beyond simple skin excision to restore youthful facial proportions through the repositioning of descended soft tissues and replacement of age-related volume loss. Contemporary facelift surgery encompasses a broad spectrum of techniques, including SMAS plication, SMASectomy, extended SMAS, and deep plane approaches, with no single procedure universally applicable. Successful outcomes depend on individua

Current Approaches in Periocular Rejuvenation: Our 6-year Experience.

INTRODUCTION: Periocular rejuvenation involves surgical removal of excess skin, fat debulking, or transfer, and optionally includes eyelid ptosis repair or lateral canthal resuspension. Periocular injectables have revolutionized these esthetic treatments, sometimes replacing surgery. We describe our experience with current treatment approaches for periocular rejuvenation of upper and lower eyelids. METHODS: We extracted data on treatment types and outcomes of all patients treated for periocular rejuvenation of upper and lower eyelids between 2015 and 2020. All patients were treated by a singl

Clinical Algorithm for Ultrasound-guided Facial and Neck Rejuvenation.

The global rise in demand for minimally invasive esthetic procedures has underscored the need for enhanced precision and safety. This study presents a novel clinical algorithm integrating real-time ultrasound (US) guidance into facial and neck rejuvenation treatments to improve procedural outcomes. Conducted over four years with 56 patients, the study utilized high-frequency B-mode imaging, Doppler functionality, and superb microvascular imaging (SMI) to map anatomical structures, optimize treatment planning, and guide interventions. The algorithm follows a systematic, step-by-step protocol en

Radiographic Manifestation of Cosmetic Hand Rejuvenation With Calcium Hydroxyapatite.

Hand rejuvenation procedures using dermal fillers are becoming increasingly popular as patients seek to restore dorsal hand volume and camouflage tendons and veins. Calcium hydroxyapatite is a commonly used filler that is inherently radiopaque and may produce imaging findings that mimic disease. We report the case of a 75-year-old woman who presented for follow-up of radiocarpal arthritis. Although her radiographs confirmed degenerative arthritis, they also demonstrated diffuse, clustered radiopaque foci in the dorsal soft tissues. These findings initially suggested metabolic or dystrophic cal

Enduring outcomes of minimally ınvasive approaches for facial rejuvenation.

Facial rejuvenation procedures have gained popularity as individuals seek nonsurgical methods to address signs of aging. These procedures encompass a range of minimally invasive techniques, including botulinum toxin applications, dermal fillers, PRP, and thread lifting. This study aimed to assess patient satisfaction and evaluate the short- and long-term outcomes of these minimal invasive facial rejuvenation procedures. Patients aged 18-65 who underwent facial rejuvenation at an Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic were included. Procedures had botulinum toxin applications, dermal fillers, PRP, and PD

Cellular rejuvenation protects neurons from inflammation-mediated cell death.

In multiple sclerosis (MS), inflammation of the central nervous system results in demyelination, neuroaxonal injury, and cell death. However, the molecular signals responsible for injury and cell death in neurons are not fully characterized. Here, we profile the transcriptome of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mice. Pathway analysis identifies a transcriptional signature reminiscent of aged RGCs with some senescent features, with a comparable signature present in neurons from patients with MS. This is supported by immunostaining demonstrating al

Electrical rejuvenation of chronically implanted macroelectrodes in nonhuman primates.

Objective.Electrodes chronically implanted in the brain undergo complex changes over time that can lower the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of recorded signals and reduce the amount of energy delivered to the tissue during therapeutic stimulation, both of which are relevant for the development of robust, closed-loop control systems. Several factors have been identified that link changes in the electrode-tissue interface (ETI) to increased impedance and degraded performance in micro- and macro-electrodes. Previous studies have demonstrated that brief pulses applied every few days can restore SNR t
