Spontaneous Remission of Acromegaly After Pituitary Apoplexy in a Middle-Aged Male.

Background: Pituitary apoplexy results from hemorrhage, infarction, or hemorrhagic infarction within a pituitary tumor. Subclinical or clinical apoplexy is not uncommon in acromegaly, owing to the large size of the tumor at initial detection. Growth hormone excess in acromegaly often persists following surgery. However, in rare instances, pituitary apoplexy may present a spontaneous cure to growth hormone excess. Case Report: A 40-year-old male presented with holocranial headache for the past 16 years that had worsened in severity during the prior year. Two months before presentation, he exper

Small Cell Lung Cancer with Sarcoidosis in Spontaneous Remission: A Case Report.

A 69-year-old woman was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, which was not treated with corticosteroid therapy. Her levels of angiotensin converting enzyme decreased significantly over 4 years and a mass lesion was detected near the lower part of her left main bronchus, and diagnosed as small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Treatment of the SCLC with a series of chemotherapeutic agents produced excellent results. The pulmonary sarcoidosis did not show any deterioration despite the frequent use of amrubicin, which is known to be a cause of interstitial pneumonia. This is a case report of SCLC complicated with

Metachronous Spontaneous Remission of Melanoma Lung Metastasis and Mediastinal Lymph Node Metastases.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous remissions are rare but valid events in malignancies and in the past have led to the development of mainstay oncologic therapies. CASE REPORT: We present a rare case of spontaneous regression of a solitary pulmonary melanoma metastasis with complete remission persisting for 28 months. Concurrent mediastinal nodal metastases progressed at the time of remission of the lung metastasis, but also demonstrated regression in follow-up fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) imaging. Metastatic nodes showed only minimal residual metabol

Spontaneous, drug-induced, and drug-free remission in peripheral and axial spondyloarthritis.

In spondyloarthritis (SpA), spontaneous remission is best described in reactive arthritis, a form of peripheral SpA. Prior SpA observational studies suggested that a significant percentage of patients reached spontaneous remission; however, these patients were followed up under older, broader European Spondyloarthropathy Study Group (ESSG) criteria or were not defined by specific criteria. In general, they were mixed populations of peripheral and axial disease, and the subsets were not differentiated when assessing end points such as remission. There are limited data on the natural history of

Spontaneous remission of nephrotic syndrome in membranous nephropathy with chronic renal impairment.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous remission (SR) of nephrotic syndrome, in the absence of immunosuppressive treatment, is relatively common among patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) and normal renal function. However, it has not been reported in patients with chronic renal impairment. METHODS: All patients with IMN who had developed SR in the presence of chronic renal insufficiency were identified among the nephrology departments that belong to the Spanish Group for the Study of Glomerular Diseases (GLOSEN). Their characteristics and outcome after SR were studied. RESULTS: Eleven pat

[Spontaneous remission of osteochondritis dissecans in 8 pediatric patients undergoing conservative treatment].

PURPOSE: Ostheocondritis dissecans lesions of the knee has a poor prognosis if certain signs are present at MRI. Clinical course is dependent on the site and extension of the lesions, and the age of the patient. In children, certain MRI findings similar to those found in the adult have a different prognostic significance, and in some case the condition can be cured by conservative treatment. By means of MR follow-up examinations performed at 6, 12 months, and in 2 cases, 24 months, we evaluated up the evolution of 8 osteochondritis dissecans treated conservatively with rest and antinflammatory

Spontaneous remission of congenital acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia with normal karyotype in twins.

BACKGROUND: Congenital acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (cANLL) is an extremely rare event and represents only 0.5-1% of the leukemias in the first year of life. It is usually more common among patients with chromosomal abnormalities. Transient myeloproliferative disease (TMD) is an hyperleukocytosis entity that occurs almost exclusively in Down syndrome patients and remits spontaneously. Spontaneous remission of congenital leukemia has been reported and related to the presence of an extra chromosome 21. PROCEDURE: A pair of non-Down syndrome newborn twins presented with a clinical picture of

Spontaneous remission of congenital acute megakaryoblastic leukemia in a neonate with down syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: Congenital acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL) is an extremely rare and aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a female neonate with Down syndrome (DS) who presented with respiratory distress and hepatomegaly at birth. Laboratory evaluation revealed hyperleukocytosis (253.45 × 109/L) and bone marrow studies confirmed AMKL with trisomy 21. Remarkably, spontaneous hematologic remission occurred within 2 months without chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the unique clinical course of DS-associated AMKL and underscores the potential for

Spontaneous and transitory remission of follicular lymphoma in patient with SARS-COV-2.

Spontaneous remission of malignant tumors following bacterial or viral infections is a rare event. The SARS-CoV-2 virus has been associated with cases of remission, but published cases in follicular lymphoma are scarce. We present a case of spontaneous remission of follicular lymphoma following severe coronavirus infection.

Spontaneous Remission of Sick Sinus Syndrome in a Fetus with Pulmonary Stenosis Regurgitation.

Objective  Here, we report a case of fetal sick sinus syndrome (SSS) caused by pulmonary stenosis regurgitation (PSR) that spontaneously resolved during pregnancy. Case Report  A 29-year-old woman was referred to our hospital at 21 weeks of gestation for persistent fetal bradycardia. Fetal echocardiography revealed PSR and ventricular septal defect (VSD). The ventricular rate was 60 to 70 beats/minute with 1:1 atrioventricular conduction. Thus, congenital SSS owing to PSR was suspected. During pregnancy, fetal SSS spontaneously resolved at 28 weeks of gestation despite persistent PSR. The vent

Spontaneous Remission of Subcutaneous Scedosporiosis Caused by Scedosporium dehoogii in a Psoriatic Patient.

To date, only one case of post-traumatic endophthalmitis caused by Scedosporium dehoogii has been reported, but its contamination or colonization might not be precluded due to the absence of pathogenic isolation and/or pathological examination. We report the first case to our knowledge of S. dehoogii-induced subcutaneous scedosporiosis in a psoriatic patient. A 58-year-old man with 5-year history of psoriasis vulgaris and immunosuppressant therapy developed pyrexia and multiple subcutaneous abscesses on both knees. Direct microscopy of the yellowish pus showed masses of bright green short spor

Retreatment with omalizumab results in rapid remission in chronic spontaneous and inducible urticaria.

IMPORTANCE: Omalizumab has emerged as a novel and effective treatment option for patients with antihistamine-resistant chronic urticaria. It is unclear whether patients with recurrent urticaria symptoms after discontinuation of omalizumab treatment can benefit from retreatment. OBJECTIVE: To assess the response of patients with chronic urticaria who receive omalizumab retreatment. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Retrospective analyses were conducted of outpatients treated at an urticaria specialist center of a university hospital. Participants included 25 consecutive patients (aged 18-74

Spontaneous remission of primary hyperparathyroidism due to hemorrhagic infarction in the parathyroid adenoma.

A 59-year-old man visited Kyoto University Hospital because of general malaise, polyuria, and polydipsia. The diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism was made based on hypercalcemia and an elevated circulating PTH level. A nodule was palpable in the left anterior neck. Two weeks later, the serum calcium level was normalized and his symptoms subsided. A temporary expansion, followed by reduction of the tumor size was observed by serial ultrasonography. Histology of the resected tumor showed central necrotic tissue, with some peripherally remaining glandular tissue. We report here a rare case o

[Spontaneous remission of HELLP syndrome in the 36th week of pregnancy with uterus duplex].

We report on a case of an HELLP syndrome in the 36th week of gestation in a primigravida with known uterus duplex cum vagina duplice, which under intensive medical control showed a spontaneous decrease of the elevated liver enzymes and normalisation of platelet count. 12 days after the occurrence of the HELLP syndrome, a Caesarean section was performed because of PROM and breech presentation of the foetus.

Spontaneous Remission in Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria-Return to Health or Transition Into Malignancy?

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired syndrome characterized by intravascular hemolysis, thrombosis, and bone marrow failure. The disease is caused by a mutation in the PIG-A gene that leads to the lack of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored complement regulatory molecules CD55 and CD59 on affected blood cell surfaces. In previous studies, spontaneous clinical remissions have been described. The disease manifestations are very heterogeneous, and we wanted to examine if true remissions and disappearance of the clone occur. In a follow-up of a nation-wide cohort of 106 Finni

Spontaneous remission of acromegaly: apoplexy mimicking meningitis or meningitis as a cause of apoplexy?

Pituitary apoplexy is a rare but potentially life-threatening clinical syndrome characterized by ischemic infarction or hemorrhage into a pituitary tumor. The diagnosis of pituitary tumor apoplexy is frequently complicated because of the nonspecific nature of its signs and symptoms, which can mimic different neurological processes, including meningitis. Several factors have been associated with apoplexy, such as dopamine agonists, radiotherapy, or head trauma, but meningitis is a rarely reported cause. We describe the case of a 51-year-old woman with acromegaly due to a pituitary macroadenoma.

[Effect of plasmacytoid dendritic cells activited by bacteria on spontaneous remission of leukemia].

Spontaneous remission (SR) of leukemia is a rare event in clinic, which possibly correlated with severe infection and sepsis, but its exact mechanism has not been confirmed. Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC) and myeloid dendritic cells (mDC) play a key role in innate and adaptive immunity respectively. A patient with severe infection of staphylococcus aureus acquired completely spontaneous remission (SR), moreover a increased number of pDC were observed, suggesting that bacteria-activated pDC may play an important role in SR. This study was purposed to explore if the bacteria can stimulate pD

Parathyroid apoplexy, the explanation of spontaneous remission of primary hyperparathyroidism: a case report.

Primary hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid adenoma represents an endocrine disease that is usually treated by surgical intervention (parathyroidectomy). In a very few patients, primary hyperparathyroidism can be spontaneously remit either by infraction or hemorrhage of the adenoma,a fact that is almost certain that will not lead to complete and definite cure. We describe a similar case of a 59-year-old male patient who underwent surgery for a cystic degeneration of a parathyroid adenoma, with substantial preoperative reduction of parathyroid hormone and calcium serum levels, and the diagnos

Spontaneous remission of primary hyperparathyroidism: a case report and meta-analysis of the literature.

BACKGROUND: In a minority of patients, primary hyperparathyroidism spontaneously remits either by autoinfarction or by hemorrhage into or around the adenoma. We describe a case of autoparathyroidectomy occurring in a 63-year-old man 9 years after three parathyroid glands were removed during a total thyroidectomy. This case is compared with 50 previously reported cases of autoparathyriodectomy, and a meta-analysis is performed. METHODS: Case report, literature review, and meta-analysis were done using statistical software (SigmaStat 2.0, SPSS, Chicago). RESULTS: Fifty cases of autoparathyroid
