The aim of this study was to identify RS1 pathogenic variants in Czech patients with X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) and to describe the associated phenotypes, including natural history, in some cases. Twenty-one affected males from 17 families were included. The coding region of RS1 was directly sequenced and segregation of the identified mutations was performed in available family members. In total, 12 disease-causing variants within RS1 were identified; of these c.20del, c.275G>A, c.[375_379del; 386A>T], c.539C>A and c.575_576insT were novel, all predicted to be null alleles. The c.539C>A mut

PURPOSE: To report a case of choroideremia characterized by peripheral retinoschisis with vascular abnormalities and vitreous hemorrhage.
OBSERVATIONS: A 58-year-old man affected by advanced-stage choroideremia was diagnosed with peripheral retinoschisis in both eyes. Vitreous hemorrhage was present in the right eye with a peculiar clot-like lesion at the periphery. At the 1-year follow-up, the vitreous hemorrhage had reabsorbed and the vascular clot-like lesion in the periphery had almost completely disappeared.
CONCLUSION AND IMPORTANCE: We have reported fundoscopic and OCT features of per

PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical characteristics of a patient with primary open-angle glaucoma in whom macular retinoschisis resolved completely after trabeculectomy consistently lowered intraocular pressure (IOP).
METHODS: A single case report.
RESULTS: We report a case of retinoschisis involving the macula in a patient with primary open-angle glaucoma in the absence of myopic maculopathy, optic nerve anomaly, or x-linked retinoschisis. The patient's glaucoma was associated with progressive visual field loss in the setting of IOP fluctuations related to posture. A trabeculectomy reduced IO

Patients who have undergone vitrectomy for complications of X-linkedretinoschisis (XLRS) have demonstrated an improvement in foveal schisis after pars plana vitrectomy. We report the case of a 10-year-old boy with XLRS and bilateral foveal schisis in whom macula-involving retinal detachment in one eye was associated with a resolution of foveal schisis in that eye. This case provides additional support for a role of vitreoretinal traction in the pathogenesis of foveal schisis in XLRS.

BACKGROUND: Retinoschisis, or retinal lamellar splitting, can occur in a number of hereditary conditions. The most common cause of congenital or childhood onset retinoschisis is the clinical entity known as juvenile retinoschsis, which is caused by mutations in the X-linked retinoschisis 1 gene. Genes other than X-linked retinoschisis 1 gene have rarely been implicated in association with hereditary retinoschisis.
METHODS: We describe a 9-year-old male who presented with several phenotypic features associated with partial monosomy of chromosome 6q and partial trisomy of chromosome 11q, includ

PURPOSE: To describe a patient with intrachoroidal cavitation in the normal eye that caused self-limiting recurrent macular detachment and retinoschisis.
CASE REPORT: An 80-year-old female patient with intrachoroidal cavitation in the normal eye presented with macular detachment and retinoschisis after cataract surgery. These were treated with intravitreal bevacizumab and then absorbed within 9 months. One year after cataract surgery, the patient presented with macular detachment and retinoschisis in the same eye again. These were absorbed within 4 months without treatment.
CONCLUSION: This

Peripapillary and macular retinoschisis are usually associated with optic disc pits. We report a rare case of peripapillary retinoschisis with optic disc hypoplasia. A 59-year-old woman presented with asthenopia. Her best-corrected visual acuity was 20/20 OD. Ophthalmoscopy of the right eye revealed peripapillary retinoschisis, optic disc hypoplasia and dilated and tortuous radial peripapillary capillaries. There was no obvious optic disc pit or vitreous traction on optical coherence tomography (OCT) or fluorescein angiography. OCT showed retinoschisis around the optic disc, a thin sheet of fe

This study shows how optical coherence tomography has been valuable in the diagnosis of congenital X-linked retinoschisis. An infant with convergent strabismus underwent serial optical coherence tomography examinations that helped to make the diagnosis of congenital X-linked retinoschisis. Optical coherence tomography is useful in the diagnosis of congenital X-linked retinoschisis and adds new information about pathogenesis. The authors recommend the use of optical coherence tomography in pediatric retinal disease, even if the macula appears normal on indirect ophthalmoscopy.

The optic nerve head pit is a congenital anomaly of the optic disc due to imperfect closure of the superior edge of the embryonic fissure. We studied in detail by means of fluorescein angiography (FLA), microperimetry (fundus related perimetry), and ocular coherence tomography (OCT) the case of a 30-year-old woman who had an optic pit with secondary retinoschisis in her right eye.

Stellate foveal retinoschisis is considered the hallmark of X-linked retinoschisis. We describe the finding of unilateral retinoschisis with stellate foveal appearance in 2 females with myopia who had no evidence of familial disease. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fluorescein angiography were obtained in both cases. Neither patient had a family history of low vision, night blindness, or retinal detachment. Visual acuity in the affected eyes was 20/50 and 20/25, respectively. Both fellow eyes had normal fundi, except for mild myopic changes. With OCT, widespread retinal splitting was de

Pars plana vitrectomy and gas-fluid exchange were used to successfully reattach eyes of 12 patients who had symptomatic retinoschisis retinal detachments (RDs) associated with large or posterior outer-layer holes. Visual acuity improved postoperatively in seven (58%) eyes, was unchanged in two (17%) eyes, and decreased in three (25%) eyes. Loss of vision was secondary to a mild posterior subcapsular cataract in one eye and to epiretinal membranes in the other two. In two other eyes, cataracts developed that subsequently required an extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) and posterior chamber

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of peripapillary retinoschisis (PPRS) on circumpapillary and macular retinal thickness and its correlation with longitudinal changes in the visual field.
METHODS: A wide-field scan using swept-source optical coherence tomography was performed to measure the circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL) thickness. The relationship between longitudinal measurements of cpRNFL, mGCIPL thickness, and visual field index (VFI) was assessed using repeated-measures correlation. Pearson correlation analys

Purpose: To report a case of myopic macular retinoschisis and full-thickness macular hole (FTMH) that both resolved with topical medical therapy alone. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed. Results: A patient with myopic retinoschisis with an FTMH and increased symptoms of metamorphopsia was treated with topical medical therapy consisting of 1% prednisolone, 4 times daily, and 0.07% bromfenac, daily. Anatomic changes at 6 weeks included drawing together of the inner retinal edges around the MH and its subsequent closure with marked resolution of the myopic retinoschisis. Conclus
