OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to survey pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) providers on their management of 2 hypothetical acute concussion scenarios. We hypothesized that most providers would recommend a management strategy based on cognitive and physical rest.
METHODS: Fifty-nine percent (46/78) of PEM providers that were surveyed completed the study. The survey consisted of 2 clinical scenarios-a female patient with a mild concussion and a male patient with a moderate concussion. Practitioners were asked questions regarding how they would hypothetically manage these patients in terms of rec

BACKGROUND: Interventions addressing emotion-related school attendance challenges in adolescents with depression often face limited efficacy, partly due to parent-adolescent perceptual biases. The effectiveness of dual-track family interventions remains underexplored. This study evaluated the preliminary clinical effectiveness of a dual-track parent-adolescent group cognitive behavioral therapy (GCBT) program and explored parent-adolescent perceptual bias as a potential process marker.
METHODS: This quasi-experimental study included 71 adolescents with depression and school refusal. Participa

While extensive research has examined refugee students' educational adaptation in host countries, the educational reintegration phase following voluntary return remains underexplored. This qualitative study investigates the linguistic and academic adaptation experiences of Syrian students transitioning from Turkish-medium education in Türkiye to Arabic-medium schooling in Syria after voluntary return. The study addresses an overarching question: how do returnee students experience the linguistic, academic, social, and psychosocial dimensions of this reverse educational transition? Using an exp

CONTEXT: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROs) and functional performance tests are recommended in the National Athletic Trainers' Association's position statement on the prevention and management of ankle sprains during the return-to-play process. Evaluating perceived confidence may be another valuable method to evaluate an athlete's readiness to return-to-play following an ankle sprain.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between PROs and perceived confidence when performing functional performance tasks in high school athletes with a history of ankle sprain.
DESIGN: Descriptive stud

The COVID-19 pandemic caused more adolescents with a pathological narcissistic personality to seek clinical as well as psychotherapeutic treatment due to suicidal crises, breakdown of social functioning and inability to continue school attendance. Recent study results show that youth with personality disorders (pd) had more trouble returning to school and to everyday life following pandemic related closures of schools. In a sample of adolescent patients with pd who were treated with transference focused psychotherapy (TFP-A) in a day-clinic programsignificantlymore juveniles remained absent fr

BACKGROUND: Concussion, or mild uncomplicated traumatic brain injury (mTBI), is a common condition that can occur in sports, motor vehicle accidents, falls, assaults/violence and occupational settings. While symptom resolution is usually expected within 2-4 weeks, a minority of patients (up to 30%) experience persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS) that impact cognitive, physical and emotional functioning. These prolonged symptoms can interfere with a patient's ability to return to school or work, creating uncertainty for patients, employers and treating practitioners.
OBJECTIVE: This arti

BACKGROUND: The mechanisms behind the effect of education on the return to work (RTW) of survivors of breast cancer (BCS) are unknown.
METHODS: We used data from 2461 BCS from the prospective cohort CANTO. Using inverse odds weights we studied the mediating effect of pre-existing comorbidities, clinical factors, post-treatment health related quality of life, working conditions and household composition in the association between education and non-RTW. We used education in three categories. All models were adjusted for age at diagnosis.
RESULTS: Non-RTW increased at lower levels of education.
