Evaluation of radicular fracture resistance of maxillary premolars following non-surgical retreatment using two novel retreatment kits.

BACKGROUND: The structural integrity of teeth after endodontic retreatment depends on the amount of remaining dentin. Excessive instrumentation can weaken roots and predispose them to fracture. This study evaluated the fracture resistance of maxillary premolars following non-surgical retreatment (NS-ReT) with Retreaty and XP-endo Rise systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-eight maxillary first premolar roots were randomly assigned to 4 groups (n = 12); G1-NC (Negative control, non-instrumented), G2-PC (Positive control, instrumented, not obturated), G3-RETY (Retreaty), and G4-XPER (XP-endo Ri

Evaluation of apically extruded debris during root canal filling material removal in teeth with external apical root resorption: a comparison of different obturation techniques.

BACKGROUND: Root canal retreatment is necessary when initial treatment fails. Nickel-titanium systems help remove filling materials; however, some methods can cause canal content extrusion, resulting in inflammation and delayed healing. This study aimed to examine the impact of different preparation techniques and endodontic file systems on apical debris volume to limit material dispersion to periradicular tissues. METHODS: Ninety extracted maxillary incisors were evaluated. Simulated apical root resorption was created by removing the apical 2 mm of the root. The teeth were divided into two g

Technological advances in endodontics: treatment of a mandibular molar with internal root resorption using a reciprocating single-file system.

The field of endodontics has become increasingly successful due to technological advances that allow clinicians to solve clinical cases that would have been problematic a few years ago. Despite such advances, endodontic treatment of teeth with internal root resorption remains challenging. This article presents a clinical case in which a reciprocating single-file system was used for endodontic treatment of a mandibular molar with internal root resorption. Radiographic examination revealed the presence of internal root resorption in the distobuccal root canal of the mandibular right first molar.

Micro-CT evaluation of dentinal microcrack formation in mesiobuccal canals of maxillary molars following instrumentation with heat-treated rotary and reciprocating systems.

BACKGROUND: The goal of root canal preparation is to eliminate microorganisms and debris from the root canal system, while providing space for the placement of root filling materials. However, the process can lead to the formation of dentin microcracks, increasing the risk of vertical root fractures. This study used micro-CT to evaluate the formation of dentinal microcracks following instrumentation with One Curve, EdgeOne Fire, and VDW.ROTATE systems. METHODS: Thirty-three extracted maxillary molars with non-calcified Vertucci type 4 s mesiobuccal canals were included. After pre-instrumentat

Conventional retreatment versus surgery in failed root canal treatment--the importance of canal anatomy.

This case report highlights two important aspects of root canal treatment, knowledge of root canal anatomy and inappropriate use of surgery to correct failure of conventional treatment. Initially, two mandibular incisors were root treated conventionally but only one of the two canals present in both teeth was prepared and filled in each case. Symptoms persisted and a surgical approach was adopted but, again, only one of the root canals in each tooth was located and sealed with a root-end filling. Surgery was performed on a second occasion but again failed to resolve the patient's problems. On

Evaluation Of Micro Leakage Of Root Canals Filled With Different Obturation Techniques: An In Vitro Study.

BACKGROUND: Despite a plethora of studies done comparing different obturation techniques using gutta-percha, there is no consensus as to which obturation technique results in a 'better' sealing of root canal space. Aims of the study are to compare mean apical micro leakage in root canals of extracted teeth obturated with cold laterally compacted gutta-percha and thermoplasticised injectable gutta-percha using calcium hydroxide based sealer. METHODS: It was an in-vitro experimental study carried out using extracted teeth. After access cavity preparation and canal preparation in 70 teeth, they

Breakthrough in the Development of Endodontic Irrigants.

The three main components of endodontic success are three-dimensional obturation, pulp space sterilization, and biomechanical preparation. Instrumentation techniques are insufficient to accomplish complete disinfection of the pulp space. It is essential to use additional tools, such as endodontic irrigants. This review article aims to provide a general overview of the different root canal irrigants and their clinical uses. Endodontic treatment focuses more on removing infectious material from the root canal system to facilitate the healing of an existing periapical lesion or to prevent the per
