We report 2 primary renal sarcomas demonstrating BCOR-CCNB3 gene fusions that have recently been identified in undifferentiated round cell sarcomas of bone and soft tissue. These neoplasms occurred in male children aged 11 and 12 years, and both were cystic as a result of entrapment and dilatation of native renal tubules. Both cases were composed of variably cellular bland spindle cells with fine chromatin set in myxoid stroma and separated by a branching capillary vasculature. Both neoplasms demonstrated immunoreactivity for BCOR, cyclin D1, TLE1, and SATB2 in the spindle neoplastic cells and

Clear cells sarcomas (CCS) are exceptionally rare in the tongue, with, to our knowledge, only three previous reports in anglo-saxon literature. Through our case, we will discuss the differential diagnosis of clear cells tumors of the tongue and bring this tumour closer to the newly described entity of the gastrointestinal tract named "clear cells sarcoma-like gastrointestinal (SCCLGI)", recently renamed "gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumour (GNET)". SCCLGI/GNET share morphological and molecular characteristics with SCC but had until then been observed only in the digestive tract. Our case c

Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney is a distinct, highly malignant pediatric neoplasm. Its occurrence in adults is extremely rare and the subject of isolated case reports. We present a series of four cases (three males and one female) identified in an adolescent and in young adults (16, 18, 20, and 25 years) with flank mass (three cases), hematuria (two cases), flank pain (two cases), and hypertension (one case). Three patients had stage III disease and one had stage I disease (National Wilms' Tumor Study staging system). All tumors had predominantly or exclusively the classic histology of a mon

The aim of this paper is a clinical and anatomopathological demonstration of a malignant lesion, a gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumor (GNET), as an exceedingly rare cause of ileus in the pediatric population. Specifically, we present the case of a 12-year-old boy who showed dramatic weight loss, hypochromic anemia, fever, dehydration, exaggerated granulation of the terminal ileum, and mechanical ileus due to the obstruction by an intramural tumor of the small intestine. A 50cm-long part of the small intestine with pathological stricture was surgically removed, sampled and routinely fixed a

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), also known as malignant melanoma of soft parts, is a rare malignancy constituting approximately 1% of all soft-tissue sarcomas. It occurs predominantly in the lower extremities of young adults, manifesting as a deep, painless, slow-growing mass. CCS is sometimes confused with other types of melanoma because of its melanocytic differentiation. Although BRAF and KIT mutations are well-known melanocytic tumour-promoting mutations frequently found in cutaneous melanoma, they are rare or absent in CCS. We present two cases of CCS with different clinical and genetic feature

Clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses (CCS) has come to be recognized as a distinct histopathological entity in the last three to four decades. It shares a number of histological and ultrastructural features with cutaneous melanoma (MM), occasionally creating diagnostic difficulties with metastatic melanoma in the absence of a known primary cutaneous tumour. At a genetic level, a t(12;22) has been identified in 60-75 per cent of cases of CCS using karyotype analysis, while MM demonstrates a broad range of genetic alterations, most commonly appearing to involve chromosomes 1, 5, and 6.

Six cases are reported of an osteoclast-rich tumor of the gastrointestinal tract that should be segregated from GIST. Five of the cases were located in the small bowel and one in the stomach. The age of the patients ranged from 13 to 37 years. The tumors behaved aggressively, with metastases to regional lymph nodes, liver, and other intra-abdominal sites. Microscopically, the tumor cells were medium-sized, predominantly oval, relatively monomorphic, diffusely immunoreactive for S-100-protein, and negative for CD117, CD34, HMB-45, and Mart-1. They were admixed with scattered osteoclast-like, mu

Gastrointestinal clear cell sarcoma is a rare tumor with neuroectodermal differentiation that affects the gastrointestinal tract and involves gene fusion translocations of EWSR1. These tumors predominantly occur in young adults and often display aggressive behavior, with metastases to lymph nodes and the liver. Histologically, the tumor comprises uniform round cells with round nuclei and pale eosinophilic or clear cytoplasm. It exhibits variable mitotic activity and demonstrates positive immunohistochemical staining for S100 and SOX10, while specific melanocytic markers are negative. Currently

AIMS: Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) is a rare paediatric renal malignant tumour. The majority of CCSKs have internal tandem duplications (ITDs) of the BCOR gene, whereas a minority have the YWHAE-NUTM2 gene fusion. A third 'double-negative' (DN) category comprises CCSKs with neither BCOR ITDs nor YWHAE-NUTM2 fusion. The aim of this study was to characterise 11 histologically diagnosed CCSKs immunohistochemically (with CCND1, BCOR and CCNB3 stains) and genetically.
METHODS AND RESULTS: By next-generation sequencing, 10 cases (90.9%) had BCOR exon 15 ITDs, with positive BCOR immunorea

The clinical, histologic, immunophenotypic, ultrastructural, and molecular features of a distinctive gastrointestinal tumor are described. Sixteen patients, 8 women and 8 men aged 17 to 77 years (mean age, 42 y; 63% less than 40 y) presented with abdominal pain, intestinal obstruction, and an abdominal mass. Mean tumor size was 5.2 cm (range, 2.4 to 15.0 cm). The tumors arose in the small bowel (10), stomach (4), and colon (2) and were histologically characterized by a sheet-like or nested population of epithelioid or oval-to-spindle cells with small nucleoli and scattered mitoses. Five cases

A 43-year-old man presented with left hip pain. Contrast-enhanced CT demonstrated lytic destruction of the left ilium and sacrum with associated soft-tissue extension, suggestive of a bone tumor. Subsequent ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT revealed only mild or no FDG avidity in lesions involving the ilium, sacrum, and right fibula. In contrast, these lesions demonstrated intense or elevated uptake on PSMA/FAPI bispecific tracer ¹⁸F-ALF-NOTA-PSFA-1 PET/CT. These observations indicate that ¹⁸F-ALF-NOTA-PSFA-1 PET/CT holds considerable potential for sarcoma detection and may support the development of PSMA/FAPI b

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is most commonly idiopathic or associated with wrist strain, while neoplastic compression, a rare etiology, is easily overlooked. This report describes a 50-year-old male patient presenting with numbness in the 1st to 4th fingers of the right hand. Preoperative electromyography confirmed the diagnosis of CTS, but ultrasonography showed no obvious abnormalities. During single-channel endoscopic carpal tunnel release, a protruding mass was identified at the bottom of the carpal tunnel, which was resected and sent for pathological examination. Immunohistochemical and

Clear cell chondrosarcoma is a rare tumor that can be easily confused with benign tumors. The aim of this report is to present a case that is rare, initially diagnosed as aneurysmal bone cyst and then chondroblastoma, and has an interesting extension pattern. A 41-year-old male patient was treated for an apparently benign cystic lesion of the right proximal femur by intralesional excision and bone grafting. The pathological diagnosis was aneurysmal bone cyst. Two years later, the patient presented with a pathological fracture at the same site and a total hip arthroplasty was performed. The pat

From 1972 through 1991, 404 patients with renal tumor (Wilms' tumor and clear cell sarcoma) were seen at the Pediatric Oncology Unit of Hacettepe Children's Hospital. The genital abnormalities and renal diseases in these patients were evaluated retrospectively. Eight patients with renal tumor had genital abnormality and/or renal disease of various types and degrees. One of these patients had a clear cell sarcoma while all the others had Wilms' tumor. Two patients had all components of the Drash syndrome. Two patients with Wilms' tumor had genital abnormality and mild proteinuria. Another two p

Clear cell melanoma is a rare clear cell malignancy. Accurate diagnosis of clear cell melanoma requires integration of immunohistochemical and morphologic findings, with molecular studies to rule out clear cell sarcoma. The differential diagnosis includes melanoma, carcinoma, perivascular epithelioid cell tumor, and epidermotropic clear cell sarcoma. We use a case of a lesion on the helix of an 86-year-old man as an example. Histologic examination revealed an ulcerated clear cell malignant tumor. Tumor cell cytoplasm contained periodic acid-Schiff-positive, diastase-sensitive glycogen. Tumor c

Many soft tissue sarcomas have chromosomal translocations with resultant formation of new fusion genes. Among the genes that can be rearranged, the EWSR1 gene has been identified as a partner in a wide variety of clinically and pathologically diverse sarcomas as well as some non-mesenchymal tumours. The former include Ewing sarcoma and similar (Ewing-like) small round cell sarcomas, desmoplastic small round cell tumour, myxoid liposarcoma, extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma, angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma, clear cell sarcoma of soft tissue and clear cell sarcoma-like tumours of the gastroin

Recent studies of Class II histocompatibility antigen expression in bone and soft tissue sarcomas have suggested that malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) may express HLA-DR, whereas histologically similar pleomorphic, epithelioid, and spindle cell malignant neoplasms generally do not. To test whether these observations are reproducible in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue sarcomas, anti-HLA-DR antibodies LK8D3 and LN3 were applied to formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections of MFH, neurofibrosarcoma (NFS), leiomyosarcoma (LMS), synovial sarcoma (SS), fibrosarcoma (FS), angiosarcoma

BACKGROUND: The rate of lymph node (LN) metastasis is rare in soft tissue sarcoma, but there are histologic subtypes that metastasize via the lymphatics. The prognostic value of LN evaluation in these high-risk histologies is unknown.
METHODS: Resected soft-tissue sarcoma patients with clear cell sarcoma, epithelioid sarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, or angiosarcoma (n = 2993) were identified in the National Cancer Data Base (2004-2013). Cox regression evaluated the association of omission of LN assessment (NX) and overall survival (OS). Subjects who underwent surgical resection with or without regi
